Liver mets
Hi,
I am new to the group. I am 36 and just diagnosed with high-grade invasive ductal carcinoma in my left breast. All my test results came back fine except for the cat scan of my abdomen which showed three lesions on my liver that do not have benign characteristics. I have to go in for an MRI tomorrow for that. I'm afraid that the cancer has spread already. Two lymphnodes were positive. Does anyone have experience with liver mets? What I read on the Internet was not very positive I stRt my chemo next week. I don't have any symptoms of liver mets thanks just preparing for the worst and hoping to hear some stories about liver mets

Dear PAnton,
So sorry you are joining us (and at such a young age too!). I don't have liver mets, but many of us here do and someone will be along soon to give you some input. I have found this forum so helpful and comforting. You are not alone and you can do this. The initial shock of being diagnosed is really so stressful and in my opinion the worst part. Let us know how the MRI goes and what chemo you will be doing so people can relate their experiences to you. Getting through the first few weeks is like a whirlwind, but it will calm down I promise.

Hi Panton,
I just read your post and wanted to check in on see if you've heard anything more on your test results about the liver mets. I had DCIS in 2011 and did a bi-lateral mastectomy. no lymph nodes, thought I was home free. Then had a recurrence diagnosed in May 2014 so now it's considered invasive. stage 1 so doing chemo right now. I always have fears that it will become stage IV and I suppose any of us diagnosed think about it. I did just ask my oncologist today how we will continue to monitor for that in the future. She said mostly by how I'm feeling. They don't do a CT scan at the drop of a hat, it won't show up until it's a certain size anyway. So maybe that you haven't had symptoms is a good sign but I know we can't ever be too confident with cancer.
I'm just wishing good results for you. Hope more will chime in that may be able to help you.

I was diagnosed with liver mets over 4 years ago when I was 42, and I am doing well. I have been Ned ( no evidence of disease) for over 3 1/2 years .
Hopefully the lesions will be benign. Good luck

Panton,
When I was dx'd almost 12 years ago with bi-lat BC, it had already spread to my liver. After 9 months of Gemzar and Herceptin, my liver went into remission and it has remained clear for 10 years!
There are a lot of chemos that work very well on liver mets.
Please keep us posted.

are there any treatments other than chemo that work on liver mets?

I was dx in 2008 with Stage IV @29 with liver mets & lung mets, I had several spots on my liver. Abraxane got rid of all the spots except a quarter size spot, the doctors decided to try another chemo and then planned on Cyber Knife procedure on Liver. I took 4 rounds of the Red Devil and then had a scan which showed that the last chemo wiped out the last liver spot so I didn't have to do the Cyberknife.
@Lilly55 Cyberknife RadioSurgery can be used on the liver it isn't chemo but radiation basically like a lazer zapping the tumor.

PAnton - another liver metster here - since 2011. I was diagnosed with mets from the beginning and still on first line treatment of tamoxifen/zoladex. The combo has done extremely well at shrinking the lesions and keeping them stable for over a year now. Actually had ooph in May and now just take tamoxifen daily.
Wishing you great success with treatment - keep us posted on how you are doing. Lots of support and encouragement for you here. Also check out the stage iv boards - you may get more experience with liver mets and treatments there.
