Neupogen side effects
I did a quick search but couldn't find a specific thread on neupogen and it's side effects. I know there is a lot of talk about bone and muscle pain. I do not experience the bone pain, but the muscle pain is pretty extreme and gets worse with each injection. However, I also experience feeling very chilled. I haven't take my temperature because it is not that kind of chill, it is more that my body is having trouble controlling its temperature because my muscles are so sore. I was wondering if anyone else experiences this side effect or if I am alone. I will mention it to my chemo nurses this week, but just curious what others experience.

I had the extreme bone pain and some muscle pain. I found that lowering the dose still upped my WBC but lessened all the side effects.

I have had some problems with Neupogen and am wondering if anyone else has had something like this. Had my first chemo on sept 16th. Neupogen shots were supposed to be 6 days, but every day the excruciating headaches, shortness of breath, elevated heart rate, and weakness that got worse and worse to the point that I could not take more than 3 steps. By the 5th shot I wound up in emerg when I phoned Onc to beg not to take the final shot. That lead to a series of heart tests and chemo being delayed until we could get the results. Whew! Heart's OK. So tomorrow we are to proceed with 2nd chemo without neupogen. Anyone heard of something like this?

I would go to the lab and get my ANC (absolute neutrafil. count) done the day before chemo stat.If it fell below a certain number I got the neopogen at least 24 hours before chemo. I never had the neopogen without the blood work done.to see if I needed it. Then we discovered that I didn't need the full dose to get the WBC increase I needed with less bone pain.

Hmmm . . . That's interesting SoCalLisa. I wasn't 't given that option. First chemo was an automatic 6 days of shots. Now they say no shots, but 3 weeks between sessions instead of 2. I guess different oncologists have different ideas. I think your way makes more sense.

I was prescribed 5 shots of Neupogen, prophylactic (no tests at first, just taking them to prevent any possible problems), starting 2nd day after Chemo (I'm doing 6 cycles of TCHP, every 3 weeks--but have only done one so far!).
I took Zyrtec and Tylenol each night, just in case. I'd heard it helped with any aches and pains the shots might cause. And I may have just got lucky, but I didn't have any aches and pains. Of course, that may be different the next time! It's so hard to tell what's going to happen with these things, and everyone is affected slightly differently. But I certainly hope I won't be in pain because of those shots!
