Any suggestions on what to do with a bunch of egg whites other than an egg white omelet or meringue?  Oh wait a minute -- souffle!! Have to be tomorrow I guess -- doesn't exactly go with sloppy joe's

auntie - doesn't she look cute in the safari garb?  She also has rain boots she wears with tall socks.  That little deer is so cute!  Do you not need the yolks for soufflé - maybe depends on what kind?  I am not a soufflé girl.

Tonight is a version of Chinese chicken salad - napa cabbage, shredded chicken, sliced celery, green onion, black sesame seeds, with an almond butter vinaigrette (can't do the peanut butter) and sliced almonds.

Leftover egg whites.  That's a switch!  It's usually the yolks left over.  I always wonder what people do with the yolks when they use just the whites.  Seems so wasteful to throw the yolks out when they're the best part of the egg.  IMHO..

Had lunch after golf today (REALLY bad golf).  Split a turkey burger and sweet potato fries with one of the other women.  She ordered it before I got to the table and substituted swiss for blue cheese.  But it was still very good and the fries were crunchy and tasty.

Suppose dinner will be leftovers again.  One more meal of the eggplant lasagna and lots of turkey soup in the refrigerator.  Salad makings.  If dh rebels, there are restaurants nearby!

Not feeling a lot of enthusiasm for cooking.

Tomorrow I go to see my hair stylist.  She may pass out when she sees me.  No color treatment of my hair roots all summer.  Plus I cut my hair twice, top and sides.  So back is long.  I've been debating with myself about whether to go "natural," which at this stage would be gray.  I see other women with gray hair who look really good.  And I would save a lot of $$$.

Thinking about Susan's DD's wedding makes me smile, too.

    Egg Whites---Angel food cakes....

Love the roo and the deer.  I had a 20 year old Siamese tomcat that sprawled out just like that kanaroo did all the time.......and just dared me to rub his tummy.....

Dinner will be the rest of a ham and some poblano roasted sweet potatoes.

For me, it is always a leftover egg white issue. I freeze them and then wince when I try to decide how to use them. Slowly they make themselves to the bottom of the drawer. I do like an egg white, confectioner sugar, and almond sliver cookies... florentines I think they are called with just a bit of orange zest. Great gluten free dessert with some chocolate sorbet or orange sorbet. The other thing I do make with them is salmon burgers from FISH: Without a Doubt. These are bloody delicious! And his tartar sauce is the definitive version. Look at that!!!! Recipe is on the web legally!  http://www.foodandwine.com/recipes/salmon-burgers... I usually ignore the pita suggestion and serve either on a homemade roll or on a toasted English muffin.

Zoe's in Somerville serves authentic Northern Chinese cuisine. Since the kids will be with us, we will probably eat some of the "safer" items on the menu. Love this place. I only wish that I enjoyed their soups more.

This what I woke to on my computer this morning.

Yes angel food cake was my 1st thought. No part of egg left in this house. Dog terror on the loose.

DH loved salsa chicken again. I said "you've had this b4". "Don't remember it". I had to really dilute the mango Pace with my almost chopped tomato Pace extra mild. Could kinda taste it but then I knew it was in there. It would be good if you had a heat loving family. DH would have loved it straight. Have breasts thawing to make jasmine chicken rice. I don't know if we will get to a quart of chicken like Eric has in the recipe. I know there's some frozen turkey - I'm not a purist so have no qualms about putting it in. Prob. add a little garlic too and that bit of leftover black beans.

Carole I went white about 6 years ago. Still has a few dark streaks underneath and esp in back. I was going every 3 weeks to color my roots. I couldn't do it and DH refused so that was my choice. Only one of our "group" who has but I love it. He doesn't care. Says only that he doesn't want me to gripe about it and when we were commuting together that I didn't take too long to do it. No chance of that. I'm wash 'n wear except for Sunday when I do attempt a little bit with the curling iron.

Special that chicken salad sounds good. I think DH will hit me if I serve him more chicken. At least he will have leftovers for tomorrow since I have a church meeting. Friday I will have to make something non-chicken.

I think I hear wedding music. I know tomorrow will be a great day Susan. All my best to your DD and soon to be SIL.

Susan, I never thought about freezing them but of course that's what I'll do. Excellent salmon recipe. I had planned to buy a piece of wild caught salmon at my next Costco trip to try cold smoking (never have done). Think I'll make these too. Maybe I can get dh to like salmon if I call it a burger!

That alarm doesn't give any decent choice....close or snooze...  ????  :-)

    It needs a "celebrate" choice.

Susan - hope tomorrow is everything you ever dreamed about - oh, and everything your DD ever dreamed about too.  Thanks for the salmon burger recipe.  I'll try that one.

Eric - looks like you're having storms again.  I do pay attention since my brother lives in the greater Phoenix area.

luv - I'm with you.  Wash & wear.  I was fortunate that my hair always just turned under in a mild page boy w/o even using a hair dryer.  (except for those years when we rolled our hair in orange juice cans).  All I ever did was sun highlights every 6 mos.  Now w/chemo hair growing back, it's a wild mess of short, curls that feel like a velour blanket instead of real hair.

Special - Happy B-day.  Did you say DR (daily roo) is going to become DP (daily penguin)?  Can't say DD for daily deer or we'll all get confused.

And Susan - happy MOB (excellent mother of the bride)

Just got home from a wonderful lunch at Brookwood, a residential facility & vocational program for adults with disabilities a ways out of town.  This was their annual "how to" Christmas decorating program.  Lunch was chicken cordon bleu accented w/a clear brown sauce that we decided had brown sugar, mustard, butter, pecans and???  Served with wonderful young green beans and a risotto dish.  Dessert was a cross between a cheese cake & a mousse cake dusted w/cinnamon & an scoop of apple topping.  The residents help in the kitchen & serve in the restaurant, and they make many of the items sold in the gift shop.  The plants they grow for sale in their nursery are amazing.

minus - thanks for the b-day wishes!  Not sure about the daily penguin, her last day in Oct. 17, then she is off to the Navy job, so unless they switch her over soon, she will stay with roos.  I agree, the Daily Deer is confusing with DD, but it was a one time thing - although incredibly cute - I love his tiny feet.  Sounds like you had a great lunch and day out - Brookwood sounds like quite a place!

I keep thinking about Susan and wondering what she is doing!  I hope things are going perfectly.

I'll echo the good wishes for the wedding couple and Susan.

Minus That sounds like a wonderful program.

    Specialk Happy Birthday.  Enjoy

Auntienance, I've always been afraid of soufflés. I do want to try one Jaques Pepin did. A souffle crepe. I'll give it a shot. It's orange filled crepes with souffle filling that puffs up. They look amazing on the show.

Eric I'm with you on not trying to take the treats. LOL

    To all, Much love

Cold rainy day here. Perfect day for comfort food. Stuck a chuck roast in the oven with aromatics and started some yeasty dinner rolls. Good smells here!

I'm also making some Greek yogurt that's destined to become frozen blueberry yogurt.

Speaking of treats - I'm really wrestling with myself over Halloween.  Our neighborhood has had an upsurge young families with small children who love to trick or treat.  I don't like buying all the candy since I've been stuck with it too many times, but I really hate to turn off my light off & be a "scrooge".  Obviously it's not safe to do homemade treats anymore.  One year I tried fruit, but the way the faces fell was very sad.  I'm not sure the pre-packed cookies or chips are any better nutrition wise.  How are all of you approaching this?
