29 Years Old and Just Diagnosed
Hello, I was just diagnosed with breast cancer on October 1, 2014 (Happy Breast Cancer Awareness Month to me!). I received the phone call that morning informing me that my biopsy was, in fact, cancerous. I went to a surgical consult appointment that afternoon and found out that I have invasive ductal carcinoma, grade 3. My doctor went over my options and I have opted for a bi-lateral mastectomy (prophylactic for my left breast) with delayed reconstruction. I will also be receiving a sentinel node biopsy and potential axillary node biopsy during my surgery, which is scheduled for October 9 (the ball is rolling quickly). So far I am ER- and PR- and still awaiting results on HER2 status. I'm still unaware of my stage or size of my tumor. The doctor estimated it as approx. 2cmX4cm. I was told that my cancer seems very aggressive, so I will be fighting it even more aggressively. I have read many of your stories and just wanted to get mine out there, too. I hate that we all have to be a part of this community, but I am glad I have a place to turn with people who understand what I am going through. Thanks, ladies (and gentlemen, too, perhaps).

Hi, so sorry you have to join this club. This site is great though! It sucks that anyone has to get this but it seems like more and more youngsters are getting it and we tend to get the more aggressive type! I was 36 at diagnosis. It sucks no matter what age though. They say aggressive ones respond well to treatment so keep that in mind. Hang in there and keep busy. Praying for you while you wait. XOXO!!!

29 and 36 is far too young to be going through this rubbish. Sorry you are both here but wishing you both well. xx

that is so not fair. You are far too young to be dealing with this crap. I am so sorry, but I am glad you found this forum. The ladies here are so nice and smart too.
Hugs

It sounds like we have a lot in common. I was 29 at diagnosis also and have stage 3a IDC. I had bmx, sentinel nods biopsy and axillary node dissection. I finished chemo in August and started rads this week. It honestly hasn't been that bad. I was expecting a lot worse with the chemo as far as side effects. You have to remain positive and accept help from others!! One thing I did learn is that I feel better when I am more active. I am married with two young children and managed to work a little bit through chemo and now radiation! Good luck to you and send me a message if you have any questions!

Oh, BrittPro - I am so sorry that you've had to join the club. It seems the diagnoses are on younger and younger women all the time! But, at least your proactive approach means you've found it and now you can fight it. I wish you all the strength and good fortune that the universe can roll into a gift-package for you to help make up for this lousy situation. Best to ya.

So not fair when you younger women have to deal with this (or anyone else for that matter) especially when you have little ones or have not yet started a family. Hugs and best to you for an easy treatment without harsh side effects

so sorry that you have to be here. I was diagnosed in July and reading the discussion boards is very helpful for me. My family really doesn't want to deal with the day to day stuff, so it is good for me to have this outlet. You will be ok-you are not alone!

Thank you, everyone, for all of the support. Em62807, I too am married with two young ones, so we have even more in common. My girls are 4 years old and 16 months old. I am now terrified of the health of my daughters' future boobies, lol. I do have genetic testing scheduled after my surgery to see how worried I should be. I tend to be an introvert and have trouble asking for help. I know I'll find this discussion board very useful.

Brittpro I am so sorry you had to join this club. The good news is you will find so many resources here, and the support will overwhelm you. We are all in the same big boat together. Please ask any questions you want, someone here will have an answer. We are here for you always through your journey. Please take good care. Sending you gentle healing hugs. -
hi Brittpro ,
I'm so sorry . I am 32 I was diagnosed in July (right before my 32nd bday,20 weeks pregnant) with stage 2 triple negative breast cancer. I had a 2cm lump in breast and one positive node. I had a lumpectomy and node dissection first.and have started chemotherapy,3rounds AC so far.
Have they discussed genetic testing ? I found out I am brca 1 positive so I am having double mastectomy before radiation.
It's all so much to process my advice is to reach out to friends and family for support..it's hard to accept help sometime s but let people help you ..makes carrying this load a little easier
Xoxo

Brittpro - it sucks that you are joining the club, but welcome. I have found the support and information on these boards to be invaluable. You are in for a bumpy ride but you will have so many cheerleaders here to help you through it. When you feel like the people in your life don't understand (and they really can't ) come on here and vent, cry, or celebrate. No one will know exactly what you mean like we will. And we will be cheering you on through all the tests, treatments, and waiting. We will be 'in your pocket' on the 9th.

Brittpro - just wanted to say hi and that I am praying for you and your surgery Thursday.

Hello! I saw your post a few days ago and finally decided to post my own today as I was just diagnosed myself. I meet with my surgeon tomorrow and I suppose that will be the beginning of a game plan and lots of decisions for me. I just wanted to wish you the best with your upcoming surgery. You will be a little ahead of me so hopefully you and I can be a good resource and support for each other. Take care of yourself and be strong!

Thanks again, ladies. This definitely is an emotional roller coaster with a lot of low points. The high points come from all the support that everyone is so ready and willing to give.
NurseShark, I immediately asked for genetic testing. I do not have a family history, but I was told that being triple negative it's more likely for me the be BRCA+. I also have two young daughters - 4 years old and 16 months old. I've never been more concerned about someone's future boobs, lol, so I want to know for their sake as well.
hummingbirdlover, I'm a little late replying to this post, but I hope your surgeon's appt went well and if you ever wanna talk (write), I'll be here as well as all of these other wonderful ladies.

I am so terribly sorry you have to join this club...no matter what age, it is not a club we want to be included in.
My gynecologist in WI was dx. at 31 with 2 young kids. She is now 64 and traveling the world to offer gyn care for underpriv. organizations.
May you have many amazing years ahead of you.
