Joining the warrior ranks
Hello,
I have been lurking for a few weeks (since I got on this awful rollercoaster) but have decided to formally introduce myself. It's so encouraging to know there are others out there who have "been there done that" and are on the other side - so thank you for your posts and stories. I am 47 and was just diagnosed with IDC. I got called back following my yearly mammo (which has never happened before) and after follow up mammo, u/s and biopsy - confirmed 3 "spots" in right breast. They originally only found one, the other two were hiding and were only found during the u/s which is really scary!! Obviously I have very dense breast tissue, which I am just finding out now! I know it is "well differentiated, IDC, grade 1 and hormone receptor positive" and each spot is about 1 cm in size. I had an MRI with contrast on Friday (that was interesting and NOISY) and am scheduled to meet with the surgeon tomorrow. To say I'm scared out of my mind is the understatement of a lifetime but I am trying to think positive, keep the faith and stay strong. It's in God's hands, I know. It feels like my life is moving in slow motion right now and I'm petrified to meet with the surgeon tomorrow. My husband and I just celebrated our 25th anniversary and we have a 9 year old son who is the light of our lives and a total Momma's boy. We are trying to keep him on a need to know basis for now since he is such a sensitive, worrying kind of guy. I am so blessed to have wonderful family and friends around me, thankfully I have an awesome support system.
I look forward to the team of cheerleaders I will meet here and hopefully a short time from now I will be an encouraging "you can totally do this" story for someone else.

Hummingbird:
I am sorry you had to join us, but glad you did. We are a really good group of ladies. I am sure that others will be along to welcome you and give you advice.
All I can really say is that once you get a treatment plan in place, you will feel better. Almost relieved is a good way to put it.
Until then, be good to yourself and take it one breath at a time.

Welcome Hummingbirdlover, so sorry you find yourself here but I can honestly say the support on here has made all the difference in the world. Your positive attitude will make it easier. I think I can say we are all scared when our journey begins but thankfully it does get better. Take care of yourself as you go through the whirlwind of tests and appointments.

hummingbird,
Breast Cancer sucks! Excuse my language but it is a nightmare.
I hope you like/respect your surgeon because that helps. Mine is my favorite Dr. He & my PCP pushed for a lumpectomy & I went with it. That might be your first decision. It all does get easier once the surgery gets scheduled, and you have a date & a plan. Until you get the pathology report from the surgery it is impossible to know everything about your situation.
Hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones & not need chemo. If you do, it's no fun but doable.
Your nine year old will take clues from you, if your not panicked, neither will he.
One of the things that bothered me was other people telling me "just stay positive". I wanted to scream at them. But we know they mean well. Be kind to yourself, do what keeps you calm & busy, for me it was my flower garden.
