I had a Right Modified Radical Mastectomy Oct 2010. I am finally ready to start the process for reconstuction. I finally have insurance again after losing it a few years ago. I'm still on a tight budget and don't know if I can afford all the copays. What are the laws and how can I qualify for help if the copays are too much?

Hi Michelehab1, and welcome to Breastcancer.org!

Maybe knowing your local area would be a help for other members in order to give you some support and advise on this particular issue. Until you get responses here you may want to read this valuable information on the main Breastcancer.org site, related to:

hi Michele, one thing you might want to look at is your maximum out of pocket on your insurance plan.  Reconstruction will be two surgeries minimum and multiple doctor appointments in between...so you will likely reach your maximum out of pocket.  If you can start the process early in a calendar year and complete reconstruction during that same year, you'll only have to pay your deductible once and you'll only pay as much as your out of pocket max. (Most of the time...some plans are different)

This explains is better than I could: http://healthinsurance.about.com/od/healthinsuran...

I'm not sure what laws you're asking about, but Breast Reconstruction is covered in all U.S. health plans.  As for qualifying for financial assistance, I would suggest speaking to someone at your local cancer center or at a local BC support group.  I've found the women in m local group to be a wealth of information about local services.
