Middle Aged Memories

LMG, my DH loves orange slices too!

I was very good with a blade of grass. Can't whistle too well otherwise.

I can also do an excellent hand cup whistle.

ahhhh...the many talents......

My Dad ate these when I was a kid. 

I still gag thinking about them.

Well OK. Guess I have to take the Circus Peanuts over the pigs' feet. Yuck is right. Like piggy parts just not their feet.

Is this like "eating everything but the squeal?"  Ewww - I just looked at the pics of pickled pigs lips along with a recipe to shake them in crushed potato chips. Now I would eat whatever if it was a matter of starving - those pigs feet actually look reasonable assuming they are well cleaned/cooked. When I have amounts of time to waste between med. appts (I have 4 diff. docs gyn, eye, BS, onco) in about 2 block area I go down to the large chain Mexican grocery. Fascinating.

Oh!  I've come during a regular horror show of foods, haven't I?  Eeeeek, and double eeeeeek!

I do remember whistling the boxes from my movie candy (jujubes, red hot dollars, jordan almonds, non-pareils, etc.,) and not always before the show or at the intermission.  Then again, my gang of rapscallions also flattened out the boxes of popcorn to fly them at the screen and turned over the other popcorn containers to stomp on them with a characteristic loud pop...often during the movie; and what a feeling to elude the matinee authority figure, a flashlight-toting, acne-challenged teenage usher!   Does childhood freedom get any better than that?

p.s.   As an allegory for childhood innocence, that theater became Adult-XXX when I reached my teens.

Elimar!! I see our talk of fine cuisine has lured you back. Wow, I had no idea you were such a rebel in your youthl!! The question remains, did you frequent the movie theater in your teens???? Slip in the back door??? I'm teasing,of course.

I must confess, I did some crazy things as well. The worst for me was the ol' dine and dash. I did that with a group of friends - I was still in elementary school. I felt so guilty that I went back and paid for everyone's ice cream with my babysitting money - I never did tell my friends. It was a neighborhood restaurant and everyone knew the owner. He was very kind to me...lol

I had to pay my way to the movie theater as a kid.  That $0.50 was gold!  But I think the popcorn I could buy once inside was less than that.  Now it's what, $5.00 or more?  And if you buy a bottle of water to go with it, you could have invited a friend to join you.  The El Ray theater was definitely the place to be on Friday nights.  Going to the theater and enjoying Jujubes or those hard caramel suckers (slow pokes??): priceless.  The dislocated jaw after chewing either one:  a small price to pay.  Today the thought of either one gives me a toothache!

I miss the drive-in. They have one in Riverside, CA, but it's just not the same as the old days.

Same here Meece - except for the one in Riverside. The sound comes over the car Radio now. My whole family went a few years ago, and everyone sits outside of their cars in lawn chairs. Not so bad on a warm night. The kids had a ball.

NM, I remember the teenagers typically sitting in the loge seats.

That's a pretty cool movie theatre.
