Blueberry Mojito Jam recipe
6 cups of blueberries, 1 tblsp lime zest, 3tblsp lime juice, 6 large mint springs, 1 pkg pectin powder, (1.75 oz), 4 cups of sugar, crush blueberries, stir in lime juice, lime zest and pectin, mix together, tie mint sprigs together with cotton kitchen string, add to pot, bring to boil stirring, be careful not to break apart mint leaves on string, add sugar all at once, bring to boil for 1 minute, remove mint leaves, skim off any foam, fill jars, process for 10 minutes, makes apprx 6 half pints enjpy!
Made dilly beans, froze cauliflower and broccoli. We had a few wormy nectarines so picked thru them and made a wonderful nectarine crisp today. We picked the summer savory today and it is drying in the south window. We go thru a good pint of it dried during the year, am going to try oven drying too as we have lots this year.

Hi ladies,
Yesterday I clipped some pumpkin blossoms from the fine and stuffed them with ricotta, mozzarella, and anchovi paste. This was the first recipe I posted when I started this thread! I needed to add some cream to the cheese mixture as it is drier than what I used in Italy. I also made my first ever gnocchi to eat with the baked blossoms. The white cheese sauce for the gnocchi was made with cream and blue cheese thickened with corn starch.

Best wishes to all as always,
Marilyn

Yummy preserves and blossom recipe.
It is so hard to get hold of some blossoms. I was eying up my next door neighbors blossoms. They always plant a little garden but don't seem to ever reap the fruits of their labor. I am not that close to them to really "suggest" they share their loot with me if they aren't going to use it.

2 simple recipes I have to share that I am waiting to taste test is a quick peach chia jam and pickled radishes.
Neither require too much prep.
http://mywholefoodlife.com/2014/08/29/peach-chia-j...
I did not add the maple syrup to the jam, but I did add a pear for extra sweetness
Pickled Radishes-
Radishes sliced I am using a dozen
(I put them in a mason jar) with
1/2 C red wine vinegar and 1/2 C water
1T of sugar and 1 1/2t salt. cover, refrigerate
Happy eats folks
Hope every one is well and enjoying the last days of the summer. Just where did it go???

Hi all,
Summer! What summer?! I bought the jars for canning and they sit in the garage untouched. The protective nets to deter birds that I put over the garden boxes are gnarled and twisted as the tomato vines weaved their way pulling this way and that way. But...the veggies still taste good.
I feel like a model T car sputtering along, stalling on occasion then getting back on the road.
The pumpkin vine is taking over the side yard. My friend told me that I may need to pollenate by hand. I've seen the bees busy. I didn't realize that the flowers with the bulb were the females and that the male flowers' pollen needs to reach them. We'll see what nature provides.
Family are coming to visit in October so there will be opportunity for meals around the table.
Best wishes to all as always,
Marilyn

I have used the preserves several times for my breakfast toast this week. Quite good and just the right amount of natural sweetness and protein to get me going for work.
Radishes were ok. Not sure I would do that recipe again. tasted fine but smelled weird. Too weird to even save too long in the fridge.
Roasted a whole chicken with celery, onion and carrot in the crock. Have some good meat and broth to cook with. Made cauliflower soup with some of the broth and it was yummy.
Sitting in my garage. Had a very disappointing garage sale. Not many in the neighborhood participated as they had in the past. Many lookers more than buyers. Of course they called for rain today, had started the sale Fri. and many came back to complain about the lack of participation and trumped up advertising.
I sold all of my really desirable tool and garden stuff several years ago. I do have some great jeans and tops. Nobody wants to spend a measly $2-5 for quality clothes. I even have some nice stuff from Black house White Market or what ever it is called. Dishes, glassware and crafty stuff. nada.......
Oh well.
Will look for some fall recipes to share soon

Teka, to be honest, the radishes were not so bad tasting. But the smell.........OI VEY! Will not be making these again. I will eat them raw or roasted.
I visited a Lebanese restaurant a few weeks ago. We decided to get a platter for the appetizer which had Baba Ganoush, Tabbouleh, and Hummus accompanied with cheese, olives, pita bread and Pickled Turnips. Let me tell you...............
the pickled Turnips were sooooooooooooo good.
I found a recipe on the web to try....seriously....they were so good I ate them all.
without apology

My neighbors picked one squash. The rest lay there and there are a few flowers. I sooo want those flowers....

Last night My sister and her 3 kiddos came over. My son was home too.
I had a hodge podge of appetizers/light fare.
Brussel sprout recipe was a hit. I was able to get a nice stalk of
them from the local farm. NOM NOM NOM. Even my 11yo niece liked them,.
Sissy loved them as did I.Along with the Brussels,
I had fresh tomatoes and basil from the farm with mozzarella-drizzeled with EVOO and balsamic vinegar.
I made a platter with cucs, maters, sausage, fruit and pickled turnips (My Sissy could not stop eating the turnips!!!!!!)
I also made fresh chicken salad (chicken breast, pepper, pinch of salt, fresh lemon juice, chopped almonds and a little mayo) on mini ciabatta buns. My sister made chocolate chip cookies
I had a Spanish red wine to try (delish) and a nice 2% milk from a local farm for the kiddos.

On the menu for today is the following dairy free chowder.
http://noshandnourish.com/content/me-time-best-eve...
I have made it before. I will use real unsalted butter. I will play with the recipe today. I have shallots to use and perhaps half the nutritional yeast. Maybe a little pepper flake
It's a nice nourishing soup. Hope all is well lovely foodie ladies.
