Is dry cough lung mets?

Options

I've had a dry cough that turned into pneumonia. As with any illness, ache or pain I report, my PCP is concerned the breast cancer spread to my lungs. Unfotunately, because I don't normally get sick, I'm starting to believe her which is making me feel worse!  I just finished my last dose of antibiotics so I'm hoping for some improvement but very discouraged. Anyone else experience lung issues?

I'm not a doctor but if I'm not mistaken a cough can persist for days or weeks even after the infection has cleared. I had bronchitis in April and the cough lasted for several weeks. It alternated between a wet and dry cough. I certainly hope yours is just a lingering cough from the pneumonia. Also if the pneumonia was viral I've heard that can take longer to go away. Like I said though I'm no doctor. Have you had an X Ray or anything? Also this year my asthma is worse than it has ever been. I'm wondering if the treatments they give us make previous issues that we've had worse. I've heard chemo can damage certain things. Who knows for sure though? Keep us posted!

I had a chest X-ray which showed what they are treating as pneumonia - With the qualifier that it could be 'something' else. I have to go for a CT scan if antibiotics don't work. I had radiation but didn't do chemo - I was in the gray area of whether it would be worth the risk.  I've had many more colds post radiation than I ever did so I'm sure that is a factor.

Did your doctor know it's bacterial pneumonia for sure?  Also I've heard radiation can do damage to the lungs.  I meant to say that in my first response. Sorry. Hopefully it's something that's not too bad. I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. It sucks! I'll say a prayer for you.

thanks so much!!  My doc Does not know for sure that it's bacterial pneumonia. I think she's just guessing. If it turns out that it doesn't go away within the next three weeks she's assuming that it's cancer.  Sounds stupid Huh?

I would get another PCP.  She can't just assume it's cancer if it doesn't go away. My mom had a dry cough for 2 months plus....and she never had cancer.  I would see my oncologist if the cough continues.
