Preparation for Surgery - book/cd recommendations?

My lumpectomy is scheduled one week from today. I'm getting a little nervous as each day passes because the only time I've been in the hospital is when my ds was born. I had him naturally because I did not want any anesthesia of any kind. With the impending surgery, I have no choice.

Can someone make a good recommendation for a book/cd for me to read/listen prior to surgery that may help calm my nerves?

TIA,

Cathy

Cathy - Here are 2 resources that you might be able to order 'express':

    http://www.amazon.com/Plum-Colored-Acrob...TF8&s=books

    http://www.amazon.com/Health-Journeys-Me...TF8&s=books

The CD is by a woman who puts out a whole series of guided meditations for every imaginable health issue. I have her one for chemo and the one for rads and am waiting for the one on healthful sleep. The book is beautiful and written by a BC survivor. It has sections for chemo, rads and just to ease stress around treatment. I find that tghis stuff really helps.

Good luck with your surgery. I had my lumpectomy almost a year ago and had 'twilight' anasthesia. It was fine (but I'm one who loves the drug buzz )

Peggy Huddleston's book and CD Prepare for Surgery Heal Faster is really wonderful. I used it all the way through chemo too. I think it's good for everything - not just surgery.

I would highly reccommend the book Hanging Out With Lab Coats....Hope, Humor & Help for Cancer Patients and their Caregivers By Wendi Fox Pedicone. It is a great book with a wealth of information in it. She is a survivor of stage IV breast cancer. Her book is sold off of the web site www.FoxPress.com There is a lot of humor, help and hope for cancer patients and their love ones in this book. It is a must have book for anyone diagnosed with breast cancer. I promise you won't be disappointed with this book.

Thanks for all the recommendations!!!! I had my surgery last Fri, Sept 15 and was able to get a rush order to Amazon for the "Prepare for Surgery/Heal Faster" book and CD, "Health Journeys - How to Fight Cancer" CD by Bellaruth Naparstek and "Healing Dreams" by Dean Evenson.

"Prepare for Surgery/Heal Faster" helped me beyond belief. I sped read it and listened to the CD prior to surgery. At first I felt silly asking my breast surgeon, PS surgeon and anesthesiologist to read the recommended "healing statements" during surgery. But once I did they wholeheartedly agreed and honestly I think it worked. I have had minimal pain following my left mastectomy and insertion of a tissue expander. The only problem I had at the hospital was with nausea and vomiting shortly after surgery. I'm 5 days out of surgery and went out today for lunch and a small shopping trip to buy more button down shirts. I'm totally amazed along with my sister who came to help. I honestly feel like relaxing and having my medical professionals and friends (even my sisterhood here on this website) participate in my healing have helped....along with lots of PRAYER.

Thanks to all for the recommendations and I only hope future sisters who are facing surgery and treatment seek out this thread. It certainly made a difference for me.

    Hugs and prayers to all!

I'm so glad everything has gone so well, Cathy! I had a lot of nausea after my mast--I guess I should have thought to add positive statements regarding that too-lol!
    Best wishes and hugs
