Odie how exciting to do the plane pull it sounds such fun. Yes Nats drive up and hang with us btw how is Mikey doing? Wonderland how lovely to have your DS home enjoy the visit. Patoo I am sooooooo looking forward to our visit, the weather sounds perfect. I was going to DWTS tomorrow with 2ndtimearound but we just decided it's too danged hot to stand in the line for the couple of hours before you get to go in.
Went to Sh'bam this morning and did a Spin class tonight - thank goodness the gyms are air conditioned
-
Body balance this am and yoga tonight.
-
Today was the first day of my LAST comeback. I got my right arm rises almost as high as my left. The stretch felt really good. Tomorrow will be even better!
-
Went to my livestrong.org class at the YMCA. Did stretches, light weights, and balance strengthening. Teacher I can now lift my arms behind my back, when I started the class a month ago I couldn't do it.

Everyone is doing so great!!!
90 minutes mow & sculpt after work tonight followed by 20 minutes of branch trimming and deadheading flowers. It starting to get dark so early now!
-
30 mins treadmill, 5-1/2 of them jogging.
Looking forward to having you Cheryl.
-
Hi! I had a great time with my old girlfriends. Lots of talking, laughing, eating. I won't dare look on the scale for a couple days!!! I did an hour of toning with Denise Austin after everybody left while I was washing towels, bedding etc.
Gee, before they came on Sunday, I smashed my foot on the vacuum and I, for sure, slightly sprained my ankle & have, maybe, broken my little toe; it hurts like crazy, is purple, and swollen up like a sauage. The dangers of HOUSEWORK!!!!!! Walking will be interesting tomorrow. Yikes.....
-
See, Ruth, that's why I stopped that housework nonsense. Its too dangerous!
Yesterday it rained again. It make me so sleepy on a Monday so I did my stair routine at work to wake up a bit. 8 flights of stairs, but that was pretty much my only exercise yesterday. Today its beautiful again so my son and I walked 37 minutes. Going to bed early but everyone keep up the good work!
-
Cheryl, wishing you safe travels this week.
Exercise today was bootcamp. Time for my tired self to turn in.
Sweet dreams all.
-
4.1 mile run after school today. Good to see everyone moving. Those voices are pretty powerful!
-
So good to see everyone moving and grooving. I went to a late evening Body Combat class tonight, it is so hot here it is absolutely unbearable it's almost 11pm and it's still up in the high 90s all the fans are doing is moving hot air around, I am so looking forward to cooler east coast temps.
-
Have fun, Cheryl and patoo! Ruth and Two, thanks for the laughs this morning before I face my household chores.
But first I'll go running (c25K) - any excuse will do.
I tried Body Combat two days ago and had so much fun. It's a new offering at my gym and the teacher looks so fit. I really want those shorts.
-
I need good strong voices that will enable me to talk to my trainer and tell her to give me a program. I do not want her there setting up machines, telling me what to do then staring off at others while I do it. I want a circuit. Help me be firm please.
Okay, lots of walking the dog etc, but zero trips to the gym as I am upset with my trainer. Stupid excuse, right? OK I'm going after work today!!!!
-
Red - absolutely be firm - she's working for you, not vice versa. I had a few sessions with a personal trainer at a gym I belonged to who was great - she talked with me about my goals, what I wanted to do, and gave me a program. She made sure I understood how to do everything, and watched me as I was doing the program, correcting my form or encouraging me to do one more rep. That's what you want and you have every right to insist on it. I think sometimes these young trainers work with young hard bodies, and don't take those of us who are older and rounder as seriously. I think if you let her know you're deadly serious about this and not just a dilettante who will do this for a couple of weeks then never show again, that may force her to take you seriously and work with you the way you deserve. You go girl!!
Running clinic track work last night - 4.5 miles of interval work - I was beat, but in a good way. Then stayed up late watching my Nationals celebrate winning the National League East Division - woohoo!!
Slept in this morning before work - yin yoga tonight.
-
body balance and 5k run today
-
Red, tell her what you expect. Like Mary says, she is supposed to be working for you. My DH has made the same comment about some of the trainers he sees working at his gym. They treat everyone like they were 20 year olds in training, when they should be listening to each individual person's goals and setting up programs that will meet their needs (which are going to be a lot different for most of us of 'a certain age' than for the serious young athlete!).
Walked with my ladies on a gorgeous, gorgeous morning. The photo shows us at a frontier village (tourist attraction). The ankle is sore but walkable. I will try Zumba tonight, but am staying away from the dangerous sport of vacuuming for awhile!
-
I agree, housework is dangerous and should be avoided whenever possible (which I do very well!)
Voices were on tonight but not very loud so only 20 mins on treadmill this evening.
Night my sculpted friends.
-
Did Zumba.
-
Who has time for housework with all this exercise???? LOL....
Hit the gym today after work for 40 minutes on the treadmill, half run half walk.
Happy Hummmp Daaay!!!
-
My house stays tidy cause I'm never here, too busy going to the gym!!!!! Did Sh'bam this morning and Body Combat tonight, now waiting for my ride as I'm heading up to LAX for my flight to New York, don't know if I'll get much exercise in the next few days but I plan on doing some beach walking for sure.
Edited to add - Red she works for you tell her your concerns if she doesn't respond then go to the manager and ask for a trainer who will listen to your requirements or go to the gym and watch other trainers and find the one who meets your needs.
-
Have fun, Cheryl!
-
Voices told me yesterday to walk instead of drive to choir practice (about 2 miles one way) and then either walk home or catch a ride, depending on how dark it was getting. However, those voices got drowned out with a phone call from a co-worker who was at the pub with another co-worker inviting me to join them for a drink and dinner. Sigh.......I MUST get back in the early morning habit or this is never gonna work - consistent evening workouts just do not work for me.
-
Sweet - ah yes, that old issue of the Voices not working in a pub!! Cheryl - hope you have a good flight. Just driving to LAX is enough of a hassle.
90 minute yin yoga last night. The running clinic schedule called for a 3 mile run this morning, but I twisted my ankle slightly a few days ago and it's still barking a bit, so I changed that to a 3 mile power walk instead. Saw 5 bunnies, plus heard a barred owl hooting several times. Watch out little bunnies!!!
-
Cheryl & Patoo, have super time together. Went to exchange our new pink pilates poster (with new location) at the hospital oncology unit. Just as I rounded the corner to head in, to my left was a woman in tears, saying over and over, I can't believe it and her partner held her, responding, we will get through it. It was truly an intimate, private moment. Quickly looked down at the floor and blinked back the tears and headed to the announcement board. They were gone when I headed out. It all came back to me on the run and cried and ran. I hate cancer.
Body balance, pink pilates, 5k run and yoga back at the gym
-
Well thank you voices (aka my friends on this forum) for your support. I told my trainer that I needed a proper program that I could follow even if I came to the gym and she wasn't around. She didn't want me doing free weights without her there, which is silly since that's what I've been doing for the last 5 months. I said I'd trade her no free weights for a proper program and I had a notebook and pen with me. I wrote down the name of every machine, what weights to use and how to do the exercise properly. We are working on arms, shoulders and back for now and will add hips and abs in a few weeks. Hopefully by then she will realize that I do know my machines and will ok the free weights.
Thanks again for your supportive words and advice. It really helped.
-
Yeah, Sweet, pubs too noisy so voices get drowned out! That's your story and I'm sticking to it. Lilac, Cheryl only here with me for a day and a half but plan on walking her all day Sunday so she doesn't get out of shape.
Beautiful weather here today so went out and walked at lunch. May hop on treadmill or do a DVD in a bit.
Night my sculpted friends.
-
Have fun Cheryl and Patoo!
RedReading: So glad you are getting the program you want and deserve.
LilacBlue: I'm sure walking in on that private moment brought back painful moments. I hate cancer, also.
Ruth: The things we do to get out of housework!
Ugh. It's still very humid here. I fast walked this evening and was full of liquid awesomeness afterwards!
-
Lilac I know where you are at on that one. I have a co-worker who had a mastectomy today and feel so sad.
Odie I love the can't clean, got to exercise excuse. We do have to have our priorities these days. I don't know if my 15 minute walk is going to be sufficient excuse today, but heck I'm tired this week.
Red, glad you got your program from the trainer. I'd rather do it myself too, especially if she's going to "motivate" you by staring off in the distance.
I feel the evening chill and earlier twilight driving me inside. I'll have to join that gym in two or three more weeks probably.
-
Good job, Red. If she knows she has to do a better job for you, maybe she will end up doing a better job for other people too!
Jealous of Patoo & Cheryl, because even though they say they will be walking, I know what they really will be doing is eating DESSERTS!
Did my step/dance class & then zoomed over to school to sub for a teacher who didn't feel well. Had a fun day & then hung around for an hour chatting with some of my old teacher friends.
I get a sinking, sick feeling whenever someone I know is diagnosed (which is way too many people). I suppose it hits us especially hard because we know what comes next and what they will have to go through. Tough, tough stuff. I hate cancer, but I love US!!!!!
-
Safe travels Cheryl. Hope you and Patoo have a great visit.
Lilacblue, what a moment to catch. Sad how easy for it to all rush back overwhelming us.
Red, congrats on making yourself heard and getting your program.
Wonderland, good for you walking despite the humidity. Wtg!
Twohobbies, hope you can find a reasonable gym convenient for you. Feel your pain as I am tired too.
Love having my fitness center at work and supplement it with a bootcamp program. Tonight was bootcamp night.
Have a great Friday ladies.
