    First Sorrowful Mystery
The Agony of Our Lord in the Garden.

    image

Let us contemplate in this mystery how our Lord Jesus Christ was so afflicted for us in the Garden of Gethsemani, that His body was bathed in a sweat of blood, which ran down in great drops upon the ground.

    Scripture Reading, Luke 22: 39-46
Then going out he went, as was his custom, to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples followed him. When he arrived at the place he said to them, "Pray that you may not undergo the test." After withdrawing about a stone's throw from them and kneeling, he prayed, saying: "Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me; still, not my will but yours be done." [And to strengthen him an angel from heaven appeared to him. He was in such agony and he prayed so fervently that his sweat became like drops of blood falling on the ground.] When he rose from prayer and returned to his disciples, he found them sleeping from grief. He said to them, "Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray that you that you may not undergo the test."

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

    LET US PRAY

Most Holy Virgin, more than martyr, by that ardent prayer which your beloved Son poured forth unto His Father in the garden, vouchsafe to intercede for us, that our passions being reduced to the obedience of reason, we may always, and in all things, conform and subject ourselves to the will of God. Amen.

First Luminous Mystery The Baptism of Our Lord.

Let us contemplate in this mystery how our Lord Jesus came from Galilee to the river Jordan to be baptized by John. This was to fulfill all of God’s demands. After Jesus was baptized the sky opened and the spirit of God descended like a dove. A voice from Heaven said: “This is my beloved son, my favour rests with him.”

    Scripture Reading, Matthew 3: 13-17
Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. John tried to prevent him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and yet you are coming to me?" Jesus said to him in reply, "Allow it now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he allowed him. After Jesus was baptized, he came up from the water and behold, the heavens were opened [for him], and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove [and] coming upon him. And a voice came from the heavens, saying, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."

    Second Sorrowful Mystery
    Scourging at the Pillar

    image

Let us contemplate in this mystery how our Lord Jesus Christ, being delivered up by Pilate to the fury of the Jews, was most cruelly scourged at the pillar, so that the heavy blows tore His flesh.

    Scripture Reading, Mark 15: 6-15
Now on the occasion of the feast he used to release to them one prisoner whom they requested. A man called Barabbas was then in prison along with the rebels who had committed murder in a rebellion. The crowd came forward and began to ask him to do for them as he was accustomed. Pilate answered, "Do you want me to release to you the king of the Jews?" For he knew that it was out of envy that the chief priests had handed him over. But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have him release Barabbas for them instead. Pilate again said to them in reply, "Then what [do you want] me to do with [the man you call] the king of the Jews?" They shouted again, "Crucify him." Pilate said to them, "Why? What evil has he done?" They only shouted the louder, "Crucify him." So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released Barabbas to them and, after he had Jesus scourged, handed him over to be crucified.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and

Amen.

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and
earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was
conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered
under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He
    descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven, sitteth at the right hand of God, the
Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living
and the dead. I believe the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic
Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the
resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed by Thy name, Thy kingdom
come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this
day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we
forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into

I am sorry Lord for falling back on Our daily decade ~

If you all don't mind I will start with the first Mystery
for Mondays here is a poem about saying the rosary ~

    image

    Take courage.

    Be faithful. Become little.

    Our Lord reveals the treasures

of His grace to the humble.

Never fear if daring and childish words

    and affections escape from you.

    Jesus wants this.

    Mary encourages you.

If you say the rosary in this way,

you will learn to pray well.

    First Joyful Mystery
The Annunciation to the Blessed Virgin and the Incarnation of Our Lord.

    image

    Scripture Reading, Luke 1: 26-33, 38
In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin's name was Mary. And coming to her he said: "Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you." But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. Then the angel said to her: "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.". . . Mary said: "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word." Then the angel departed from her.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

    First Sorrowful Mystery
The Agony of Our Lord in the Garden

    image

Let us contemplate in this mystery how our Lord Jesus Christ was so afflicted for us in the Garden of Gethsemani, that His body was bathed in a sweat of blood, which ran down in great drops upon the ground.

    poem the agony ~
He Asked Us to Wait While He Prayed

He asked us to wait while he prayed.

Knowing how that goes, I naturally

Lay down on the ground to rest

While the cool seeped into the garden.

He was standing beside me, questioning,

“Couldn’t you watch with me one hour?”

What did he want from me? What about

The others? They’d been sleeping too.

I was willing, so I watched him trudge

To the rock where he usually prayed

    Amid tangled trees and starlight.

Tonight, he stumbled, lost in the dark.

I heard him moaning low and loud

Like a woman in deepening labor.

Father, if this can pass, let it pass.

But let me want at last what you want.

Was someone with him now, holding him?

I should go also, but I had no words

Or worth to touch him. Suddenly

Peaceful, he rose and came back to us.

His clothes were soaked with sweat,

But he smelled of cedar, earth, and air.

He stood still as a deer. Having heard the voice

Of God, he was listening now for men.

    First Glorious Mystery
    The Resurrection of Our Lord

    image

    Scripture Reading, Mark 16: 1-7
When the sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary, the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go and anoint him. Very early when the sun had risen, on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb. They were saying to one another, "Who will roll back the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?" When they looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled back; it was very large. On entering the tomb they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a white robe, and they were utterly amazed. He said to them: "Do not be amazed! You seek Jesus of Nazareth, the crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Behold the place where they laid him. But go and tell his disciples and Peter, 'He is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him, as he told you.' "

O glorious Virgin Mary, by that unspeakable joy which you did receive in the resurrection of your only Son, we beseech you obtain of Him for us, that our hearts may never go astray after the false joys of this world, but may be ever and wholly employed in the pursuit of the only true and solid joys of Heaven. Amen.

    poem Thomas Recognizes Jesus

    Your body bears open wounds

    And sores. Without them

You were beautiful, but you were not

As gorgeous as you are now.

You used to walk among us too gently,

I thought, a vacuum our violence

    Abhorred. You were too attractive

To thorns and spikes and spears.

I had wanted to be you, but could not,

So you became me. You wore my body

And ruined it that day. You were

Still wearing it when you stood before us

Weeks later in the locked room.

You turned toward me your piercing wounds.

At once in you—innocent, killed, alive—

    I recognized myself.

    First Luminous Mystery
    The Baptism of Our Lord

    image

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and
earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was
conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered
under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He
    descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead;

And lead us not into
temptation; but deliver us from evil. Amen.

(1)Hail, Mary, full of grace; the Lord is with thee; blessed art
thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the
    hour of our death. Amen.

(2)Hail, Mary, full of grace; the Lord is with thee; blessed art

    hour of our death. Amen.

(3)Hail, Mary, full of grace; the Lord is with thee; blessed art

(5)Hail, Mary, full of grace; the Lord is with thee; blessed art

    hour of our death. Amen.

    hour of our death. Amen.

(8)Hail, Mary, full of grace; the Lord is with thee; blessed art
thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the
    hour of our death. Amen.

(9)Hail, Mary, full of grace; the Lord is with thee; blessed art
thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the
    hour of our death. Amen.

(10)Hail, Mary, full of grace; the Lord is with thee; blessed art
thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the
    hour of our death. Amen.

    LET US PRAY

Holy Mary, Queen of Heaven, when your beloved son Jesus Christ was baptized in the river Jordan, the sacrament of baptism became the cornerstone for our entry into the Holy Catholic Church. Grant us, most Gracious Lady the resolve to cut off all occasion of sin, so that we may become worthy of our Baptismal promises. Amen.

    poem baptism

Joy he had known before he was born

When from the womb he heard

    Your mother’s greeting and song.

Today he was standing in deep water

That reeked of death. You went out to him

And offered yourself to be baptized.

He begged you to repent of your humility,

But you, perfect Lamb of God,

Told him to lower you into the dark.

He took the body you gave him.

He let you down and raised you up again,

    As wet as any sinner.

At once your Father spoke in words

    To all who were watching--

Even to us, two millennia downstream.

We see the Spirit settle upon you.

Your flesh shivers with light as you cross

To the far shore. We are following.

    Second Sorrowful Mystery
The Scourging of Our Lord at the Pillar.

    image

Let us contemplate in this mystery how our Lord Jesus Christ, being delivered up by Pilate to the fury of the Jews, was most cruelly scourged at the pillar, so that the heavy blows tore His flesh.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and
earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was
conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered

    without end. Amen.

    LET US PRAY

O Mother of God, overflowing fountain of patience, through those stripes which your only and most beloved Son vouchsafed to suffer fo us; obtain of Him for us; grace that we may know how to mortify our rebellious senses, and cut off all occasions of sinning, with that sword of grief and compassion which pierced Your most tender soul. Amen.

    Poem:
They ordered me to whip the Jew.

    Governor Pilate was dealing

With a pushy crowd. It was my job

To buy him some time with blood.

As they strapped him to a pillar,

I took a clean whip strung with iron bits

To gouge the flesh as it flayed it.

I laid into him, marring his back.

What got to me first was the way

He managed the pain. He did not fight it,

Like the rebel leaders, with contempt

For me, my whip, the entire empire.

Nor did he take the lashes impassively

As the stoical types try to do. Nor

Did he whimper and squeal, as some will,

    Confessing to anything, everything.

He crumbled below me, stripe by stripe,

Absorbing all the pain I could deliver.

I swear he believed his suffering served

Some high purpose only he could serve.

When it was over, he struggled to his feet,

Blood still pouring out of him.

Before I could go, he gave me a look

I could almost have taken for love.

Let us contemplate in this mystery how the Angel Gabriel saluted our Blessed Lady with the title "Full of Grace" and declared unto her the incarnation of our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ.

    First Glorious Mystery
The Resurrection of Our Lord. Virtue: Faith. Reading: Mark 16: 1-7. Holy Name: Jesus risen from the dead.

Let us contemplate in this mystery how our Lord Jesus Christ, triumphing gloriously over death, rose again the third day, immortal and impassible.

He
    descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead;

And lead us not into
temptation; but deliver us from evil. Amen.

    LET US PRAY

O glorious Virgin Mary, by that unspeakable joy which you did receive in the resurrection of your only Son, we beseech you obtain of Him for us, that our hearts may never go astray after the false joys of this world, but may be ever and wholly employed in the pursuit of the only true and solid joys of Heaven. Amen.

    poem~
    Thomas Recognizes Jesus

    Your body bears open wounds

    And sores. Without them

You were beautiful, but you were not

As gorgeous as you are now.

You used to walk among us too gently,

I thought, a vacuum our violence

    Abhorred. You were too attractive

To thorns and spikes and spears.

I had wanted to be you, but could not,

So you became me. You wore my body

And ruined it that day. You were

Still wearing it when you stood before us

Weeks later in the locked room.

You turned toward me your piercing wounds.

At once in you—innocent, killed, alive—

    I recognized myself.

    First Glorious Mystery
The Resurrection of Our Lord. Virtue: Faith. Reading: Mark 16: 1-7. Holy Name: Jesus risen from the dead.

Let us contemplate in this mystery how our Lord Jesus Christ, triumphing gloriously over death, rose again the third day, immortal and impassible.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and

    Second Joyful Mystery
The Visitation of the Blessed Virgin to her cousin, St. Elizabeth. Virtue: Charity. Reading: Luke 1: 39-45. Holy Name: Jesus who sanctifies us.

    image

    Scripture Reading, Luke 1: 39-45
During those days Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, "Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled."

Let us contemplate in this mystery how the Blessed Virgin Mary understanding from the Angel that her cousin St. Elizabeth had conceived, went with haste into the mountains of Judea to visit her, bearing her Divine Son in her womb, and remained with her three months.

Amen.

    Poem ~Mary Visits Elizabeth

At her window a fruit tree blossomed,

then ascended into heaven, an angel

on six wings. It was time, she thought,

to pay a visit to her cousin.

Mary set out at once for the hills.

She would see what she would see there.

When Elizabeth greeted her at the door,

she could tell that she was round all right.

From under the waters of her uterus,

John heard the voice of the virgin

and spoke to her through his mother:

“Who am I that the mother of God's Lamb

should come to me? Blessed are you

    among women, Mary, and blessed

is the fruit of your womb. For you

are the one who finally believed.”

Mary said she knew that all ages

would likewise bless her. She sang

the dark, slow joys of lowliness.
