Waiting for surgery of any kind until after BRAC testing?

My doctor won't do anything until the genetic test comes back.  He then wants a double masectomy even though only positive in the right. He then admitted he doesn't do a lot of patients as young as me or with implants like me. HELP!!

They say the test results take 3 weeks to come back. I feel as though my lifes ticking away currently. Trying to remain positive but want to climb in a hole.

    Do you mean he would recommend a BMX if you are BRCA positive but not if you're BRCA negative? Do you have a family history of BC?

    Yes lojo exactly. My grandmother had it 40 years ago. My father died of esophogeal. He was 70 that was in 1997. I am getting a second opinion. Scheduled for genetic test on Monday.

    Yes to what kayb said...if your grandmother was postmenopausal and you have no other relatives with BC, you're likely not BRCA+, but you never know. I was BRCA- but did have a family history of premenopausal BC, and even then my surgeon didn't suggest a BMX (I came to that decision and asked whether he would support that choice, which he did.) I would strongly suggest getting a second opinion. Best...

    I couldn't handle his inexperience!! Thank you all for responding. Time to take charge of my own care and get on the road to recovery!
