Hi!!    I'm new here and will be having the DIEP surgery in December.   I had a double mastectomy in June due to very early DCIS.   I opted for the double mastectomy due to my strong family history of breast cancer.   Just don't want to worry about it any more.    Because the cancer was so small and only stage 1, I was able to keep my nipples, and no radiation or chemo was needed.    I'm anxious to gather all the info I can on the DIEP.    The end result sounds incredible, but I really need to know what to expect as far as recovery.    I was off work for 5 weeks with my mastectomy but I would have liked another week (or more)      Please share your story of surgery and recovery of your reconstruction.    Thank you.

    Lurinda,

    There is also a history of VERY active Diep related threads on BCO. The current one (Diep 2014) I know would welcome you onboard, with answers for questions you likely haven't even thought of yet, and tremendous understanding and support. It helps to share the experience with other women going through it at the same time as you, with the occasional insight of those who are farther out from the surgery and recovery.

    Hi Lurinda,

    If you go to the Breast Reconstruction forum, you will find lots of input about DIEP reconstruction. This forum is for women who have chosen not to have reconstruction.

    You may want to post your question on another part of the forum.  This part is for women who have chosen NOT to do recon.  You will get some help on the DIEP forum.  Good luck.
