Does anyone had an augmentation after a lumpectomy?

Prior to DX I was breastfeeding for two years and lost all volume and shape :(

I was considering implants with breast lift, but looks like its not an option anymore.

Are the implants a possibility without a mastectomy?

Any advice is highly appreciated!

    did you have radiation?

I had a lumpectomy, chemo. Radiation and breast Augmentation in 2000. I had the implants replaced in 2007 due to capsular constriction on the cancer side and leakage in both. I had an infection in my left breast (cancer side) in 2010. The Dr. got the infection under control by IV antibiotics. In Sept. 2013 I got another infection on my left side. The used every antibiotic they could find but the infection was too bad. They rushed me into emergency surgery to remove the implant. I tested positive for a plethora of bacteria including staph. When all was said and done surgery wise, I had a caved in breast adhered to my chest wall and rippled up like an upside down L. So I wear a prothesis. Because I still have breast tissue the Dr. have been proplexed as what to do. I've seen several PS, they all agree that this happened because of the radiation and lack of blood flow due to radiation and my body wanting to get rid of the foreign body. The only thing they can do to fix me is a mastectomy and sGAP flap. I am scheduled to have it done Oct. 13. Exactly 14 years to the day as my lumpectomy.

Why do I tell you my tail of woe? Because I wish I knew what could have happened 14 years ago and left my boob alone!

Good luck with your decision. It's a hard one to make.

Thank you so much for sharing your story, Sacnaillady! I am so sorry you had to go through this on top of BC...

I didn't have radiation yet, but I was offered a choice by rad. oncologist - either mastectomy or radiation.

I would love to avoid radiation though I am not sure if it's the best option regarding survival chances. My surgeon, oncologist and radiation dr have conflicting opinions regarding what's the best.

I am seeing PS in two weeks, let's see what he has to say..
