Quilti, they told me to leave it alone but not to worry if some fell off in the shower.  I'm not sure I want to see what's under there, so I'm just washing at the sink so it doesn't get wet and fall off! (Not so brave about some things...)

So, surgery was Friday, I had a 10 minute walk yesterday, then today when DH got home from work we walked to a cafe 10 minutes from the house, had a coffee, and walked back...I may have been walking too fast and talking the whole time because I got dizzy at one point...is that normal at this stage? I t

Milaandra yes Id think it might be normal- even that much walking plus the being out, doing something stuff is alot just a few days after a surgery. But glad you could do it- remember just because you can do it doesnt mean you should!

re the surgical tapes: my ps said to wait til they started coming off in the shower- it was about 10 days or so. I did what I could stand taking them off during a shower. The rest I waited another day or two so it was less creepy peeling them off....that was for me tho-

Sunny great to hear that you got your drains removed, and your tape to.

Does sound like that I might be able to start taking them off. Thank you Ladies.

MI just listen to your body. I still try to get a nap in at least once a day. Other wise I can't make it to 10 pm. I do find that I do get very tired if I go out for a few hours.

Sunny congrats on the drain removal!!

Mil for some reason I didn't see your post earlier. That does sound normal though. Your body is using a lot of energy to heal from surgery.

Hey everyone, I feel like my recovery has stalled ever since I went off all the pain meds. My back is killing me. I think my posture is off from over compensating. And my chest feels more tight now than it ever has. Anyone feel like their recovery had peaks and valleys like this?? I'm not doing much at all during the day. I make my own meals, so I'm going in and out of drawers and the fridge but that's as strenuous as it gets. At 2 weeks out is that still too much? Thanks for any insight you lovely ladies could pass along. I'm a little concerned about the regression.

Hey Ally, are you hydrating?  Drink drink drink.  Natural gatorade?  Kombucha?  Herbal tea?  Carrot ginger juice?  And how's the pooping? :)  Are you getting at least 100 grams of protein a day?  That in itself is a full-time job!

Your body is so busy healing.  That said, if you don't feel right, could you call your PCP?  She'll want to know how you're doing. XXX

Ally, is it possible you aren't doing enough? What is a normal activity day for you pre-operation?  Is there anyone who could get you out a little for a couple of days in a row to see how you feel?  Me, for instance, I have a bit of phlegm (tmi?) Whether that's from the anaesthetic or I caught a slight cold from the chorus line of sick people in my ward, I don't know.  But I really noticed it after yesterday's walk, and it loosened up from the increased breathing. There's a reason bed-bound folk can get pneumonia!  Same thing with sore muscles...our favourite chairs aren't always the most ergonomic. I always feel better after a vacation because of all the walking we do. (Except after Morocco...I shouldn't have tried to ride that camel! :O  Of course now that I know I have a lumbar met...)

Or...if you meant chest tightness meaning pectorals and such from the surgery (just occurred to me you might) then...er...um...never mind... :-)

I didn't call, it's drying up nicely now. The area is still sore like it's bruised, but my mobility is fine.

I have my teaching class app't at the cancer centre today, PICC line and bloodwork tomorrow and chemo on Friday.

Question, what day of the week do you prefer chemo to be on? I originally chose Friday thinking I'd be sick over the weekend and back to working on Monday. But now I have to close my home daycare (Dr's orders) so I could go any day.

Would a Monday be better, so I feel better by the weekend?

Ally I'm so sorry you are in pain still. Things always seem to get worse before they get better for some reason. I don't have TE's but for me my best day was the first day after surgery and I didn't even take pain meds. I think once the numbness starts to go away the pain is felt more and more. I saw my BS a little over 2 weeks after my surgery and she told me to just keep taking my pain meds even the narcotics if I felt I needed them.

I hope you feel better soon

Lori Im not sure what you are getting for chemo but for me I had my AC on Thursday and got my neulasta shot on Friday. Sunday and Monday were my worst days. I was pretty much ok to go back to work on tues. I sometimes worked the Saturday after my chemo. Then when I was on weekly taxol I did that on Fridays and could work any other day I was just fatigued from it. Sorry you had to close your daycare

    Ally,

I am a week out now and still taking pain meds, the narcotic type.  I don't feel ready to go down that road and yet.  That being said, I'm having peaks and valleys too.  For me, the day after seeing my PS is rough because, well he's a little rough and the fills make me feel very tight.

Eat protein for sure (greek yogurt, eggs, lean meat, soy, legumes) and I agree - stay hydrated!!

Hugs, hope the peaks get higher and the valleys level out.

    All,

Have been frustrated with my onco's office for a while.  Planning to switch.

How long did it take to get your initial and then final surgery pathology reports?  They told me 2 days and 5 days twice.  Well today if I take out non business days is day 5.  They have nothing and now they say 'a week or so' for the initial report and 2-3 weeks for the final.

    What the heck?

Sunny I know that for my large biopsy it took 5 weeks to get the report back.  For my core biopsy's it took 3 weeks. I do know where I live (Alberta) they have two pathologist check it to confirm results. I am hoping when I go after 3 weeks that I will get results.

Ally are you taking any pain meds. Can you doing any of the exercises that they gave you. I found that doing them were not painful just a stretchy feeling, but they did help with the tightness, but I did not get TE.

I do get into the valleys too. When I start thinking about what could happen next.....I am trying to stay positive, but some days it is harder than others.

I am still not doing to much at all either. Some cooking, and some very light cleaning.

    Hugs to all

Allydp Im in the same boat ! I tapered down LIKE THEY SAID TO and I am in so much pain its ridiculous ! Im going in to have the last 2 drains removed, we shall see what they are going to do about pain control ! I found a pain thread on BCO...check it out some good info is there. Sorry your still hurting :(

I walked to the atm yesterday..what should have been a 3-5 minute walk took me almost an hour..and I was in so much pain had to keep stopping to sit down..called PS when I got home because the pain was so bad. I took motrin AND Tylenol about  an hour and a half before the walk...DID NOTHING for my pain. These surgeons are too quick to pull the pain meds ! I wish they would have there body part cut off..then they would know how it feels. Hope you feel better :)

Well, it's Been quite a week and God has had many surprises for me.

My diep surgerery took 13 hours. UCLA is amazing. I had bad scar tissue from both my c section and gallbladder surgeries.

My right flap is amazing but my left non cancerous side has failed. The blood circulating in was great but outward was struggling. They tried leech, yes, you heard that right, leech therapy for 48 hrs. Man, was that rough. Every two hours a little leech was suckling on my breast trying to suck up the blood that was accumulating faster then flowing back out into my breast. It was getting harder, blue, bruised and black. I could not take that damn warm blanket anymore, the constant care. He went back in to see if the blood flow was working clean up a little and see if that would work. If not, then I would lose it and we will just reconstructt again.

I also had a blood infusion. It's all over and done now, I'm waiting to go home. One big great and the other is caved in, man, cancer is nasty.

Dr says he took out all the cancer and am still waiting on lymph node biopsy results. He took 6.

Now we wait and heal. When I'm all healed up, we will resort to plan b, whatever that is. Probably an expander. No way, will I ever go thru another flap from somewhere else on my body.

    Onward and upwards!

Ally, Lipgloss and Mil - I hope that each day will get better and better for you.  Take care of yourselves.  Get plenty of protein and hydrate.  If you still feel something isn't right, call your doctor.

Today has been one week since surgery.  In some ways it feels like years ago and in some ways, like yesterday.  I still have two drains but I see the PS tomorrow and hope one if not both will come out.  I am off pain meds except Tylenol.  Sometimes it feels tight, but I guess that is normal with implants.  I am trying to rest and relax.

I need your support...I received an email yesterday from my GYN saying that I needed to make an appointment.  I had my annual appointment on 6/30 when they evaluated my lump the first time.  I called the office and the receptionist said I needed to make a colposcopy appointment in October.  I asked what for and she said you had an abnormal pap with HPV positive and you said to postpone until after your breast cancer surgery.  I was shocked as I never knew about my test results much less said to delay anything.  I would have done the testing all at the same time.

The nurse came on the phone and said not to worry that it wasn't cancer because it was low grade.  She said that the abnormal was most likely from the HPV status.  I started crying and told her that I just had surgery to remove breast cancer and didn't need another cancer.  She was really sweet and told me that most likely everything was fine and to come in Friday at 11:00 for the procedure.  The last time everyone told me that everything would be fine, I found out that I had breast cancer.

I have done nothing but cry since yesterday afternoon.  I looked at some "approved" websites and all evidence points to the fact that everything should be fine, but I am so afraid that I will have cervical cancer.  I guess I have to look at it this way...if it is cancer...it (like my breast cancer) was caught early and as long as there is treatment, I will be good as gold at some point.

I have had such a positive attitude with breast cancer, this has just thrown me for a loop.  I just want everything to be over.  I want to see my children graduate, have families and die an old woman with my husband.

I hope you all have a wonderful day!

Oh dear...who needs this extra stress!  But realistically...what are the odds of another cancer? I'm sure they are astronomical! I know, it feels like the universe is expecting way too much from us and we just can't handle any more...but try not to worry.  I wish I knew what to say to make your tears dry up...but we'll be here when the results come back.

Lipglossmommie and ml, I am just thinking of you both so much and sending you warm hugs.  Our Milaandra has some excellent advice for our Ally, I think.  I hear all of you sisters who are still in pain.  Agree that some PSs need to have some work done on their own delicate areas...

Lipglossmommie, I want you to know that I had two severe (life-threatening) infections on the right (40% chance I would live through it) and I had sx to remove the TE and clean the whole area out.  It was pretty barbaric.  I was left with one TE in and one caved-in wrecked area with wrinkled skin.  Then I learned that another TE on the right was not an option for me anymore (not that I wanted to do it).  I walked around with a (partially inflated) TE on left, concavity on right, and I worked, took meetings -- all with scarves covering the area.  I am still working to fix this whole situation.

I just wanted you to know I am with you.  I know how you feel.  Let us know if you need anything! XXX

ml14333 sending you all the strength I can send!      Listen, the exam is in two days (it's really good they moved it up and are doing it right away) and the good thing about this exam is that you'll get a response immediately on the spot.  (right?)     So hold tight and just go through the motions of what you need to do tomorrow (get yoour drains out, hopefully and recover! )  and then Friday you'll have a real answer and you can deal with a fact and not a fear.       We're all hoping it will be a good fact.        Let us do the hoping for you.

Lipglossmom, what a dreadful experience!      I'm so sorry you're having to go through all that!      Rest up now and concentrate on healing.        I hope they'll send you home soon.
