What about Cannabis Oil?
Ok, here I go again with some crazy idea of finding a cure but I have seen some recent posts on facebook along with youtube videos that there may be something to Cannabis Oil specifically for breast cancer (even stage IV). I don't know if it will have a lasting effect but I am truly wondering about this right now. The other part of my brain says that I know there is a movement to get this legalized in every state (or as many as possible) and in some cases, I know for a fact that the people pushing it are stretching the truth a little bit but I was wondering if you have any thoughts other then what I already stated. In other words, are you hearing good news about this? Do you have any personal stories to tell, etc? I wish we could find something to save us all, I hate reading about any of us suffering.

There is actually a lot of research going into possible uses for cannabis in treating cancer. It sounds like there is something in the plant that has been shown to slow the growth of cancer, but it would have to be extracted and given in dense doses in order to be effective. For now, I think there is plenty of proof that it helps with side effects and pain. Here is an interesting article about it:

I live in a state where medical MJ is legal. Most of the time it's prescribed for se's, pain and to stimulate appetite. I do think there's potential for it to play a greater role in cancer so I hope the research continues.

Thanks for the support. It's bad enough that I think I'm crazy, I thank you both for not calling me out on being nuts. lol.
I recently read that about a woman dx with stage IV bc who used it and is now cancer free, I think she lives in Washington State. I know that Tommy Chong used it to "cure" his prostate cancer. I just wonder how long it lasts though, or if it is like one of our treatments and the cancer becomes resistant to it eventually? Because I also saw a post of a younger girl who used it for her cancer and it was a very positive situation and then I heard that she had passed away. Maybe, it works for some people but not for everyone?
Enjoy your Labor Day and thanks again!

Yes, there is a lot of buzz around cannabis oil and it's hard to decide what's good and bad info. I read the good stories, but I also know of people that it has been ineffective for. I am undecided on this. I also can't afford to treat with this. I live in a state where it is legal for medical purposes, but insurance does not cover. I estimated it would cost me between $500-$800 a month to use the oil. I'd sell my car and all my stuff if There was reliable info showing me that it could work....at least some stats. For now, I have a treatment that has been shown to be effective for some patients in my position, so that's how I reason it.
I would love to see any information from reliable sources. Please share. I'm still on the fence with this one. Thanks for bringing it up, Musiclover.

I think it is very expensive and I am more suspicious of the stories I see because of the cost. I was hoping that I might hear some better stories from some of you... I didn't realize until a few minutes ago that this was discussed recently on another thread too. Sorry about that. All we can do is keeping sharing information and hopefully something helps us, that's my intention.
Love you ladies!

ML, thanks for starting this thread. I've also seen quite a few positive reports about cannabis oil and wondered if there's any scientific basis to them. Here's one of the few bits of research I could find:
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2014/07/14071...
And here's some interesting research on hempseed oil, which I gather has similarities to cannabis oil? Someone on the Bone Mets thread has reported significant pain relief using a topical application of hempseed oil mixed in coconut oil, although I don't know the ratio for her concoction.

This isn't a subject I know anything about. I am glad to read, tho, that you realize that those selling cannabis oil could easily be capable of trumping up results so as to get more sales and bigger profits. That kind of critical thinking shows real maturity and is beneficial if you don't want to be taken advantage of. Sure, I hope there's something to the claims for those who want to try it. Best to proceed with caution, tho.
MusicLover, you seem to have come out of your shell a bit and it's nice to see.

Do you mean that I can't shut up on BCO? That's true. I still miss my old life every bit of it but thank you! (I feel like I lost the best part of myself.) Or are you talking about my odd sense of humor?
I am with you on the cannabis oil thing, it is so expensive and for the number of people dealing with cancer every year and since this stuff has been around since the dark ages, I think we would hear more success stories, correct? That's why I was fishing with all of you for stories, just not enough to get excited about or for me to start growing some weed in my backyard.
I think our best hope still lies with anti-cd47 or immunotherapy and hopefully it gets here soon. Maybe that is even crazy thinking but I don't care, call me crazy.
(I honestly hope to take a break from BCO, to make time for other things in my life...I hope that I succeed.)

Hi ladies,
I am interested in knowing if systemic treatment cocktails like Ibrance & Letrozole stay effective while using THC/CBD and what ratios would be most effective. Considering I am an estrogen + kind of gal, I would think data like this would really help those trying to survive. I am going to try this out myself and will be taking it down in a journal. We've got to start somewhere, eh?
Anyone?
-
a close friend insists I try it ..
I definitely will not have cannabis oil shots!
))
Weird presention, not to be sent to a regularly stuck-by-needles people

They sell cannabis oil in syringes to measure it out. No needles.
You can mix it into dark chocolate... much more attractive presentation.

Zavrovka and stagefree,
It's been 2 weeks taking 15mg per day of FECO (Full Extract Cannibis Oil) with a ratio of 2-1 (CBD -THC). A ratio of higher CBD to THC is recommended for those with estrogen receptor cancer. I'm still looking into research and data that is appropriate and not hearsay. It's difficult. I'm keeping a journal, too. DO NOT SMOKE MJ thinking you are killing cancer cells. This only alleviates stress, eating probs, sleep, etc.
This was posted via the Susan G. Komen site. It is a report by a cancer doctor who had been following a 9 yr survivor of Stage iv BC. This was posted on ScienceBasedMedicine.org.
"Another thing that needs to be pointed out. Every single one of the studies invoked by Medical Jane has nothing to do with hemp oil, be it Rick Simpson’s hemp oil or some other type. Each of the studies examines either purified cannabinoids or, in the case of this study, a chemically modified cannabinoid. This study cited in Molecular Cancer, for instance, looks Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol, the most abundant and potent cannabinoid in marijuana, and JWH-133, a non-psychotropic CB2 receptor-selective agonist. Both inhibit the growth of HER2(+) breast cancer cells in cell culture and in mice, but the concentrations needed are pretty high, with an IC50 (concentration that is 50% of maximum inhibition) in the range of 5 to 10 μM, concentrations achievable with injection of purified compound but certainly not by smoking pot
You are also unlikely to achieve these levels by drinking hemp oil, which, by the way, usually contains so little THC that it is below the limit of detection for common assays and manufacturers brag that it’s impossible to fail a drug test if you’re consuming hemp seed oil because “THC levels in our products are barely measurable.” Of course, I do realize that Rick Simpson calls his oil hemp oil even though it’s really cannabis oil derived from the buds rather than the seeds, but even he brags that “following the dosage previously described, many people can take the full treatment and never get high,” which implies that his oil achieves nowhere near the concentration of THC in the blood necessary to be active against cancer. Moreover, oral bioavailability of THC from such oils is notoriously low, between 4-20%, making it unlikely that concentrations well above the 10 μM necessary to inhibit or kill more than 50% of the cancer cells are achievable with oral dosing.
Thus, the various studies cited, such as this one, which shows inhibition of the epidermal growth factor pathway by purified cannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychotropic cannabinoid; this one, the aforementioned study that examines purified Δ9-THC and JWH-133 against HER2(+) breast cancer; and this one, which also examines CBD in breast cancer, are interesting and very preliminary. Moreover, they all examine cannabinoids purified from cannabis, and one even examines a chemically modified cannabinoid. In other words, even if cannabinoids make the jump from preclinical models to humans, these studies do not support the use of medical marijuana, either smoked as the plant or ingested as an oil, to treat breast cancer. They also do not suggest sufficient activity to produce miracle cures of stage IV cancer as described by Rick Simpson. Indeed, a recent review concludes that “current preclinical data does not yet provide robust evidence that systemically administered Δ9-THC will be useful for the curative treatment of cancer,” although CBD might have a role based on preclinical data."
All stats are preliminary in finding and we must try to push forward for more definitive studies and verified evidence for a federally registered Cannibis Oil so that controlled access is no longer a struggle for those in desperate need.

I too live in a state that has recently legalized medical cannabis, though only in 3 forms (tinctures, vaporizers and pills) and for 2 components of the plant (THC and CBD). I'm currently experimenting with the different versions, so far only trying one that is nearly all THC and another that is 4:1 THC/CBD. The dispensary gal suggested the THC-heavier ones because those tend to be best for pain, though I've found they are actually best for sleep - the best sleep I've ever had, in fact.
LaurenG, you mentioned that a higher proportion of CBD to THC is recommended for estrogen-positive BCers - do you know why that is? I'm thinking of trying one of those (my dispensary has a 1:1 option and 1:4 THC/CBD, as well as those heavier on or even exclusively CBD), but wasn't sure it would help very much. That was when I was focused just on pain relief, though; I didn't realize it would help so much with sleep or even perhaps treating the cancer itself. I find the higher THC one does help with pain, though the amount I have to take for that also makes me pretty spacey/stoned, so it's not great for when I have to work or otherwise be "present" (!). Do you find the CBD-dominant forms help with pain at all?Although my signature stuff below doesn't show it yet, I am now Stage IV, extensive bone metastases as of May 2016.
-
LaurenG - thank you for the update. How are you doing?
I am taking 10mg per day of CBD/THC in a 4:1 mixture. Probably well below any therapeutic dose. I am not pursuing cannabis oil as a cure right now but I have my eye on it.

I just got my card here in Honolulu because my breast cancer has spread to my brain and I've seen that the medical marijuana is one of the very few therapies that breaks the blood brain barrier. I've been using the Rick Simpson Oil (which has both cbd/thc and is potent, yikes) for the past three weeks. I noticed it really helps with the dizzy/nausea I have from the whole brain radiation. I'm getting used to the psychoactive effects and I'll let you guys know if it works

Thank you Christa! Many people will be interested in hearing how this goes.

Has the Cannabis oil helped you so far?

My wife just started oral CBD oil 1 mg per day for a few days just to make sure she isn't allergic because she is very sensitive to treatments. For the past 3 days she took 25 mg per day (powder in capsule) with no noticeable immediate effect. I'm hoping to get through a month maybe increasing to 50 mg per day during the last week or so. She's also on warfarin so we are closely monitoring her INR. Apparently the CBD may affect the metabolism of other drugs so please be aware of this aspect (Google it).

Still here. MRI of my brain June 2017 showed the 40 spots from June 2016 are now three small spots. They haven't changed from the April 2017 MRI so I've been marked for now as stable. The whole brain radiation might have helped too. Not taking the RSO anymore but my naturopath I see here from Japan gave me a vial of just CBD to put under my tongue three times a day.

I will be starting Ibrance and Letrezole at the end of the month. I am currently using CBD(in pill form) - so far it has helped with anxiety, pain and my appetite. I heard that CBD can interact with Ibrance though - has anyone's doctor discussed this? I really want to continue with the CBD but don't want it to compromise the effect of the Ibrance. Thanks for your help!!

I want to try this but there are so many different kinds. Does yours have low thc in it? I have lost over
22 lbs and need to gain some weight back. What is your called that you use? Also is pill better
then liquid? I see you can get it on amazon but not sure what to order. I said something to my
onc about it and she said several other patience were taking it. She did not act like I should not
try it. I am on Xeloda.

Hi! I've been reading alot about this topic with interest. I was diagnosed with ER+/PR+/HER2- metastatic breast cancer in Feb 2015 and I'm on my first line treatment (Tamoxifen & Lupron). I'm interested in medical marijuana to mitigate bone pain. (Technically, one of my two tumors in my spine sits on my spinal nerve.) I'm a little confused as there seems to be mixed opinions.
My questions to you are: (1) What is the appropriate ratio of THC:CBD given that I'm ER+/PR+/HER2-? I've read repeatedly that 1:1 or 1:3 is recommended. (2) Should I stick with a low concentration? I'm a little nervous about interactions with Tamoxifen.

HelloChrista,
Can you provide any update?
