Chemo Pain? Whaaat?

Anyway,  I'm having it.

My breast with the cancer is all inflamed and angry and hurts like hell.  It started 24 hours after my first infusion of TCH-P.  The MO said that sometimes the chemo will inflame the cancer cells as they attack it.  The pain stopped at 48-72 hours.  Now I'm on Day 9 and the pain is back and it is terrible.  I have Vicodin to manage it, but it doesn't really help.

Is there any experience with this?  The pain is starting to radiate to my back and armpit and I could use some advice or something.

    .

lizz, I have a bit of discomfort at my mastectomy site, but nothing like you are describing. Here's a link that might be helpful http://www.breastcancer.org/treatment/pain/causes...

    Thank you,

I've read that particular site a lot.  My breast cancer has been painful since 8 weeks before my Dx.  It's just more of the same, but worse.

I would call your MO after hours number.   You do not have to suffer something can be prescribed that can help.

    Hi Liz,

Sorry to hear that. It sounds like something to call in to the 24 hour "on call" person at your onc's office. It doesn't sound normal to me. Infection? Something else?

When it first happened, I was in the office getting my Nuelasta shot and I was crying a lot because of it.  She gave me the Vicodin and told me that it was a good sign.  It's not red and doesn't look any difference, but the tender painful spots are definitely palpable and swollen.

The Vicodin makes me sleepy, but the pain is pain. It just sucks to have to choose between pain meds and working or functioning.

I can put a call into her, but she already knows and we already talked about it.  I am just trying to see if anyone has had any experience with it and how they manage it.
