Hello ladies,

Almost 3 weeks ago my mom had the first phase of her breast reconstruction. She had the latissimus dorsi reconstruction with tissue expanders placed. Minus a few minor common complications, over all she is healing well. Every since surgery was completed, she has been complaining about back and shoulder pain. She says all of the muscles in her back hurt her and it's almost like the team of doctors and nurses did a dance on her back during surgery lol. I was just wondering if back pain is common after this type of reconstruction operation and if any of you have experienced this? I can't find anything helpful online + Dr. google scares the heck out of me. Thank you so much :)

It's very common.  They must roll you back & forth several times, also they sit you up to make sure that the recon looks good.  She is only 2-3 weeks out of surgery.  As my PS says, this is a huge surgery & doesn't heal in a short time frame.  It took several months before I didn't have a lot of muscle pain.   I found Tylenol very helpful.  Good luck, GG
