what does mri "area of enhancement" mean?

hi everyone,

I was officially diagnosed -- what we think is stage 2, grade 3 invasive ductal carcinoma, tumor is 3.8 cm -- I found it 2 weeks ago.  It looks like I might have my mastectomy on September 4th and am trying to prepare for this.  The rest of the pathology report isn't back yet.

The MRI came back with an "area of enhancement" in my armpit, which is an area that I've been feeling pain much like the pain in my tumor, but the nurse wasn't able to explain it very clearly.  I haven't been able to find that much online about this outside of the breast.  Does anyone know what it might suggest?

thanks!

it sounds like one or more of your lymph nodes looked suspicious on the MRI.  MRIs are very sensitive. It could be nothing!
