It's official...I've been diagnosed.  The PCP is working on setting up an appt with a breast cancer center.  It's about 1 1/2 hours away, so hopefully they will be able to fit a lot into one appointment.

It's a little overwhelming, but the PCP seems to think it's good that my receptors are both positive.

I find it a little ironic that ILC dx is usually 60 or older...I'm 39?!?

Glad to have the support while I wade through all of the information

    Hi Larene:

Just remember, you will never be alone here.  Yes, it is very good that they are positive - will respond to hormonal therapy.

    Hi Larene,

I am sorry about your diagnosis. It is overwhelming!

Yes, you are young for the dx. While I am older than you are, I am considered young for my dx too. The upside of this is that we are in better physical condition to kick cancer's butt.

There is so much support and good information here.

I hate to be welcoming you to this one, Larene.      But we're here for you.

I hope the breast center is able to see you very soon.

larene, there is a thread on this site called Just Diagnosed, Get Prepared.  It's a little lengthy, but there is a lot of good information from ladies who have been through this.  I found that using my Livescribe pen was a godsend.  I took notes while the doctors were talking and the pen was recording everything.  I was able to listen to the entire discussion at home and I was surprised at how many things I didn't understand while I was in the office, but it was very clear afterwards.  I never told the doctors I was recording either.  I don't use a smart phone, but that could work too.  Anyway, sorry that you had to join us, but this is a great group if you have to be here.

Wow - I was told this was an "old lady cancer" but had no idea that average age was 60.  Ouch!  Regardless, one of the bright spots about this type cancer is that it is slow to grow and slow to move outside the breast.  On the not so bright side is that it is a sneaky little sucker and typically does not show up on imaging.  Good luck with the breast center.  There aren't many of us ILCs around, so don't hesitate to PM me if you have questions.  The first few weeks are the hardest while waiting for all the tests and a final treatment plan.  Once the treatment plan is in place, things settle down a great deal.  But oh the roller coaster ride the first few weeks.

Hang in there!  We're here to help when you need it!

    Larene,

Sorry you needed to be here, it all sucks ! There are several threads specifically for lobular cancer, and many ladies are late 30's & early 40s. Seems like it being the cancer for old ladies is a thing in the past.

I was dx one year ago, to my surprise ( more like a nightmare ) stage 3... Not what anyone plans for.

Lots of ladies cancer, is caught early enough to skip chemo and just need radiation, hopefully that will be your situation. It is a slow process, do whatever keeps you calm. My best therapy is working in my flower gardens. Be gentle with yourself, we are our worst critics sometimes. It takes time to accept what is happening, and to settle in to a different perspective.
