Just for fun...What is everyone reading??

NOW, I'm reading, "Mary, called Magdalene" by Margaret George. Interesting, if you're into fictionalized Bible stories. (I am.)
Gotta get LOADS of reading in, back to work in three weeks! (Hooray/Groan) -
Deb,
I am reading "The Secret Life of Bees" right now--well,actually just started. A lot of people have said it is a great book...my cousin just gave it to me and she loved it...have you read it?
Hugs and prayers,
Candie -
I read " secret Life of Bees" a few months ago ....and I swear it is probably the most popular novel among women. I loved it, and passed the book along. Just this week, my hairdresser, 2 gals in the coffee shop , and 3 friends have started it!!!It is a great story well-written, with feelings that all women are sure to relate to at some point in life. Oprah Winfrey better get ready to act again, because there is a character she could play wonderfully in the movie version!!!If this book ever makes it to the big screen , the sheer number of its readers will make it a blockbuster.

Nora Roberts summer fest for me Just finished The Chesapeake Bay Saga (4 books) and The Key Trilogy (3 books) and am currently reading Black Rose which is book 2 from the Garden Trilogy.
-
You all should check out Book Lust by librarian Nancy Pearl. It's book lists for every reading need. And More Book Lust.
Take care,
--Hattie
(I have a secret unfulfilled desire to be a librarian.) -
Candie,
I read Secret Life of Bees when it frist came out and I loved it...Really great writing. Her second one, The Mermaid Chair, was good, but not great In my opinion.
Deb C. -
If you like mysteries and enjoy a good romp check out the books by Dorothy Cannell. I believe the first one is called The Thin Woman. She has a wild sense of humor. Good reads for when the brain is fried.
Jackie -
HI,
Thanks for all your suggestions for reading. I am saving "The Secret Life of Bees" for next weekend. I will be on 2 weeks of tx beg Wed and I am worth nothing on the weekends..last time I finished a book in one day.
Hugs and prayers.
Candie -
I'vew just finished Mary, Mary by James PAtterson and now I'm reading the 5th Horseman by him. The best book I've read this summer was WHITE CARGO by Stuart Woods.
Cya, -
Just finished Sandra Brown's "Chill Factor" Dean Koontz "Velocity" and Dorothea Benton Frank's "Pawley's Island". Current book is Heather Graham "The Vision" I love novels that have a twist of mystery. During chemo though I couldn't read as the chemo blurred my vision (besides that I didn't feel like reading) and had trouble with reading and even knowing what I read - but I have sure made up for it since. I enjoyed finding this and seeing what everyone is into. Lets do keep it going

Hi Deb,
I had a good day today...went to Jersey shore with hubby..picture perfect day and I started reading "Secret Life of Bees". I read half the book already and I am enjoying it...3rd tx on Wed....a lil nervous...a couple of clumps of hair fell out today...onc says I shouldn't lose all of it but it creeped me out!!
Hope you are well.
Hugs and prayers,
Candie -
Saige...we seem to have similar tastes in reading...I'm having trouble finding a good book. I just placed a hold on White Cargo at the local library..must be new, they don't have it in yet.
I'll let you know what I think!

I just finished "The Memory Keeper's Daughter" by Kim Edwards. I had never heard of it, picked it up on a whim.
After a slow start, I enjoyed it.
Next up, a re-read of "Fast Food Nation" I think...maybe it will motivate me to clean up my diet! (I can dream, can't I?) -
<resurrecting this thread>
I put down "Fast Food Nation" to read "Heat" by Bill Buford. I am LOVING it! Anyone who loves reading about kitchen antics and celebrity chefs (Mario Batali, this time) will like this one. Even better, after a summer "off," it got me COOKING again! -
I also love James Patterson. I've read all of his books. I am currently reading "Dark Harbor" by Stuart Woods. I like mysteries, especially with weird twists in them.
Catherine -
I'm reading Gone With the Wind!
-
I am reading Billie Letts Shoot the Moon. I loved Where the heart is so hoping this one is just as good. I actually plan on starting it this weekends as I relax in the woods.
Amy -
I'm actually reading in my favorite genre - Southern chick lit! "Same Sweet Girls", by Cassandra King. Also reading (NOT chick lit!) "Anatomy of the Spirit: The Seven Stages of Power and Healing" - Caroline Myss.
I REALLY want to save this whole thread for future reading suggestions....Does anyone know a quick and foolproof way to do that, short of copying and pasting into a Word document? -
I love talking about books! Read all the Patterson, however, I think his co-writers are doing most of the writing. The last few just didn't seem like him. The Stephanie Plum series is a hoot. Just finished "Kite Runner". Great Story! My favorite Sandra Brown is "Envy". Maybe I'll pick up "The Secret Life of Bees" next, sounds like alot of you liked it. Thanks for starting this thread Deb C.
-
I have several books going, but the two major ones right now are: "A Diary from Dixie" by Mary Chestnut and "Traveling Light" by Max Lucado.
-
Just finished Hissy Fit, it was really great light reading and #6 of the Stephanie Plum, laughing out loud and making my dh jealous that he wasn't reading it.
My fav of all time is Tale of Two Cities, even named my new kitty Charles Dickens and call him Dickens! -
I love Charles Dickens. He has an interesting sense of humor. His characters are so wild.
Jackie -
"S is for Silence" by Sue Grafton
I am all caught up on Janet Evanovich numbers series.
Cheryl -
Well since I've gone through all the Janet Evanovich books and got tired of Sue Grafton, I've started on the No. 1 Detective Ladies series. Its actually quite interesting with a nice flavor of the south African culture.
Fitz...you might try printing the thread by clicking on the printer icon on the bottom. -
Just finished Dean Koontz' The Husband. I was hoping he'd have out the 3rd part of Frankenstein this summer. Finally getting into A Breath of Snow and Ashes (Part 4, maybe 5, in a Diana Gabaldon series). It's taking me forever, but I've made a commitment to the charactors.
-
I just finished the "Beth Moore" bible study, "Breaking Free", that was an awesome study and I have been turning over a lot of rocks. I would recommend it to anyone, sometimes we don't realize we have any generational sins, it is a real eye opener.
-
Impressive, everybody -- even though I'm usually a big reader I've been vegging out with daytime television, but I've been restricting myself to "uplifting" stuff (no soaps, no fighting talk shows) -- I watch reruns of The Waltons and Little House on the Prairie. Thank goodness for the Hallmark channel and PBS !!
-
I'm glad this thread got bumped again.
Just started "The China Study" to see what all the hoopla is about. Wish I had picked a juicy novel, instead. -
PoohRN,
Just went cruising through the thread and noticed you and I seem to have some similarities in our taste in books.
I was planning on re-reading "The Sparrow" but my cousin waylaid me by giving me, "Running with Scissors" by Augusten Burroughs. Reading the book is a little like watching a train wreck. It is amazing the upbringing that some children can survive and then learn to thrive as adults.
What is "The China Study" about?
Casey
