Melissa I wish I could figure out how to post a picture I have in my kitchen. It's me, aged 2, tipping back an empty Schlitz can while my grandfather claps and laughs!

beth, cute, but Schlitz???? Whoa! The first beer that ever crossed my lips was Pabst BR. Wasn't too impressed, that's why I became a wino for awhile I guess!

melissa, enjoyed your beer did you? haha that reminds me of my cousins when they would come over. They were always walking around sipping everyone's beer....blah! At that point in time, I liked my pop too much! hmmm, actually, I still like my pop too much!

Welcome joycek! Around here it doesn't matter if you still partake, or not.  So sorry about your best friend!

Had to ask you though... any of these?

Aren't they kind of like a champagne? If so, I better steer clear! LOL...  ~Like!~

Based on the link above, it's pretty much the same thing. One is from France and one is from Italy.

    I can't tell the difference.....

I am with you Joycek. I told my Rad Onc the other day that there was NO way I was going to live the rest of my life with his 3-5 drinks per week instructions.Just ain't gonna happen. Everything else I have reigned in but I love my champagne. I am on a beach vacation right now and also have to have those 2 ice cold corona lights at the beach everyday.

I haven't given up drinking and still enjoy beer, wine, rum, vodka , etc.  Mostly on the weekends and always in a social setting. If I never hung out with friends, then I'd drink a lot less! Lol

i gave up alcohol on my dx date, but am encouraged i can reincorporate some in moderation after i lose some beer weight!  I enjoyed it freely before dx but truly need a breather for my little liver right now. I think in moderation, it is fine.....

I never really went for mixed drinks or beer but do like wine. I quit drinking it due to stomach problems over 4 years ago and really don't miss it. I do have the occasional glass if we're traveling in a wine region or for a BIG occasion - maybe a couple glasses a year if we're not traveling.

I do not miss it - I never liked the way it made me feel and I like it even less now. The upside is that since alcohol tends to make me crave carbs, it's definitely had a positive effect on my nutrition and weight.

I haven't given up my wine either.  I did add folic acid (recommended in Dr Susan Love's Breast Book).  Usually one glass at dinner, but not every night.  Between a DH with bad Parkinson's and all the other stuff, I figured I'd just continue with my wine.  More enjoyable than tranquilizers or anti-depressants!

I with you PontiacPeggy.  I'd rather have a few glasses of wine than go dry.  Everyone in my house will live longer and happier lives as a result.

    Hi Ladies.

as you can c by my dx,  I guess according to everything we here I should never touch wine , alcohol or beer ever again in my life..................However,

I have never been one to follow the rules!!!  When I asked my MO about drinking my 2 glasses of red wine everyday,  yes everyday.....I am italian,  what can I say its part of my life!!!   Well, he looked at me and said,  if I have my 2 glasses a night, why would I ask you to stop having them...Enjoy your life he said!    Oh and that was 5 years ago .......and I don't think I have missed to many nights!!

I am not suggesting other women do this,   It just works for me!!!!

My Prayers,   my beautiful 9 year old son and 13 year old daughter....and of course my Handsome Hubby,   who by the way drinks

a glass every night with me!!!!! Cheers to 5 years NED..........Could it be the wine?????   Only God knows anything for sure.

    hugs to all

I don't know if you can see my dx on here...........I was stage lllC 10 pos nodes 5cm tumor and 99% est. pos..............Whew!!

Now you know why I drink the wine!!!!!

Hopeful- I am in agreement for those who wish to continue their drinking... but, like you, I do Not miss it *for myself...DH cannot ...so therefore nor do I!

faithfulheart- that's great! :) I know there are days that I sure wouldn't mind a bit of wine... but my hubby(DH), doesn't handle his very well...(that is putting it mildly ;) ..)

The weird thing is, I've heard it both ways. Is it good for those like us, with BC? Or is it not? You know!? Same for the folic acid supplement... Sometimes I just never know for sure. But, the more we read and explore the articles on this site, the better we get some better education under our belt....Oh and the Mods here are Fab and happy to help! :)

It's funny - I was never a big drinker, but enjoyed a glass or two now and then (usually a weekend). Since chemo though, I can't stand the taste! Note I'm now three years pfc!

I still occasionally think it'd be nice to sit back with a nice cold chardonnay, but I can't even get past the smell lol.

I haven't had a drink for over three yours now

    Enjoy ladies!

faithgulheart - I am Italian too and I just cannot eat an Italian meal without a good Cab Sab or Chianti. I just finished Chemo so I have not had any wine in months per my MO's instructions. Plus I couldn't taste it and one tasted like battery acid. I didn't really drink that much before dx, 2-3 MAYBE a 4th glasses on the weekend (Saturday night), so I will most likely go back to the old ways. My MO said that "They want to put us all in a box. No one knows for sure if wine etc has anything to do with this. If you have a rough day and want a glass of wine, have a glass of wine. Enjoy your life."

I'm a person who has had a glass of red wine with dinner every night for decades. I enjoy good food and good wine. When I was first diagnosed with BC, I was scared to even touch it and barely drank again until after radiation. I searched for studies plus talked to my MO about it. There really does seem to be divided opinions and theories about wine and cancer. My MO says he doesn't see a problem with a glass of red wine per day, but just don't go crazy with it.  I was only too happy to follow that bit of advice. I exercise and eat right; it just seems like enjoying some wine isn't taking a significant risk for my situation.

I didn't give up alcohol. Clearly I couldn't drink when I was having the red devil, but once my chemo went to once a week, I would enjoy my drinks.  I would obviously be careful before and after chemo, but I have given up so much already, I refuse to give alcohol up as well. Alcohol improves my personality. I can be a real, rugger bugger when I don't drink, but alcohol seems to calm me down and make me funny (well that's my excuse anyway). And yes, I do sometimes feel the guilt when you read the stats on BC, but WTH! Everyone reacts differently to treatment.  Everyone reacts differently to being diagnosed.  Thank you for allowing us to post honestly.  In this sometimes cruel world, you see people looking at you when you are having a drink.  You can almost read their thoughts.  I'd like to see them go through what we have gone through and are still going through without a little something. :)

If I want a drink (which is rarely since my hubby doesn't drink at all) I will have it. I figure that for the amount I drink per year, it will not have an impact. So, I say YES to whatever drink I decide I want. The last drink I had was one glass of red wine on Mother's Day with my daughter. Next one might not be until Christmas or NewYear's Eve, but if I want one, I say Belly up to the bar ladies and pour me one! LOL

Msphil - a 20 yr survivor?  That's fantastic.  Did you really mean FIFTY-FIVE years on tamoxifen?  Or that you will be on it forever?  Obviously, if alcohol doesn't mix with your meds it would be very wise to not drink.  Congrats!!!

msphil - I'm with PontiacPeggy... ~~Congrats!!~~ Wow...that is so, so, soooo very reassuring to me. Of course we will all deal accordingly with each of our own aspects re:BC... but to read your post just makes my day!

See, you and those like you who have beat a lot of the odds, only shows me the true depth of hope we all should never give up on...*if at all possible.

I can't imagine 55yrs. of tamoxifen.....ugh....seriously? bleh. But hey, if it stands to reason to contribute to our individual successes, then by all means! I'm to take it for 10+yrs. Don't know if DH can stand it though! heehee! ;)

Either or, congrats to 20yrs! woot! :)
