Top 8 semi funny reasons to be a Caregiver to your wife

So much of this experience is NOT funny, but I think you have to see the humor sometimes. It can really help. This is a great list and so true! 

My SIL became wheelchair bound towards the end.  Something she was vehemently against doing as she felt it meant she was "Giving up".  I went to collect the wheelchair, and it was RED.  Her LEAST favourite colour.  We were desperate to find a lighter side to something that was so difficult for her.  So when I walked in with the wheelchair that first day, I shouted, "Oh look Sandra!  It's Ferrari Red!".

She burst in to tears and I was in agony as I really didn't know what to say.  She finally looked up, and wailed...."But it doesn't go with my dress!".  So we chose another dress which worked with the red.  and then we went shopping, it was the first time she had been out of the house in weeks.  When we got to the shopping centre, she was laughing and crying at the same time because I was hunting for a parking....she laughed more and more and eventually managed to sputter out the fact that we had a licence to park in the handicapped zone.  After that, we actually drove to all the busiest shopping centres in town.  Parked in the handicapped zone and waited for the attendants to help us - wheeled around the block and got in the car to the next shopping centre.  It took us HOURS because she insisted that we do ALL the handicapped parking zones!  We laughed so much that day, and we TALKED - it was the funniest, and most poignant thing we have ever done......

There IS humour to be found.....it all depends on how you embrace it. 

alancar- Hope I can jump in here, although I come at this from an odd perspective as my husband is the one fighting BC. Do feel like sometimes you have to find the humor somewhere. It beats crying. Love #9- I'm not sure I could give my own date of birth anymore. Add #10- No secret to what loved one weighs. Everyplace you go they have to step on the scale. (I'm getting better at converting kilograms). #11 Are you accessed? takes on a whole new meaning when you check in at the chemo infusion desk.

It seems most people get med ports implanted for chemo-my husband had one but it needed to be pulled d/t a complication so they had to put in a PICC. I have to put normal saline and hep flush in it everynight to keep it open.  One night I was running a little late doing it and I heard his deep voice "Are you going to flush me?" . Something about that just cracked both of us up. Gotta laugh whenever you can. Wishing you good luck next Tuesday. Try to find humor in dealing with the stupid drains-we called the one my husband had 'the grenade'.

Selena! I have missed you! Great to see you again!

Alancar, you 2 will do well! You're lucky to have each other and humor goes a long way to lighten this, especially in the beginning, when there are so many unknowns.

I have a fabulous Husband, who has been with me, all the way too. He has taken me to every appointment and has become quite the foob and clothing critique! lol

We've had challenges, he's a quadriplegic, from a hang gliding accident, when he was almost 20, so we've had to keep a sense of humor. He is quite amazing and hasn't let the disability hold him back. He worked full time, right up till a few years ago, is a champion sailor, runs a small business from home and he does all the driving. He never really stops.

The truth is, if he wasn't in a wheelchair, I'd never keep up with him!
