Drowning

Options

I'm done with chemo and had a full mastectomy with reconstruction.  I am about 6 weeks post surgery and feel miserable.  I'm so uncomfortable with cramping and pain in the breastbone.  Dr. won't give me any more narcotics which I understand but tylonel, advil, aleve, etc. doesn't do anything to me.  I feel that if I don't start feeling well, I'll be on a path toward the "light".  I DON"T WANT TO GO THERE.  I have an 8 year old that I miss doing things with.  Driving is difficult and I'm suppose to go back to work in a week.  Is this normal to feel so uncomfortable and with pain?

Check some of the reconstruction threads, some of the ladies there can help you with your questions. Best of luck!

    kaluha,

Did you have tissue expanders put in at the time of the BMX?

kaluha - The stretching of the pecs was what was so incredibly painful for me. I did a few weeks of PT and that helped. I also treated the area of my pecs that ached the most (near the mammary fold) as muscle pain with a heating pad, the self-adhesive heat-up pain patches AND bengay. Please ask you doc before you use these though. Honestly I had to baby myself for the five months I had the TEs. It was a little better at the exchange and only improved from there. Also - watch out for the end-of-treatment blues. Many of us are affected by them. Sorry it has been so rough for you.

Hello Kaluha, ruthbru gives a good suggestion about checking out the reconstruction forum. We're not sure what type of reconstruction you had but if you wanted you could start your own topic in this forum relating to the specific surgery you had. You may find lots of others who are going through the same thing as you.

    Here's the link: Reconstruction

    Best wishes to you
