Any Hummingbird Watchers Out There?

bethq,
Welcome!
I am sharing the following information from on-line.
____________________________________________
Hummingbird Myth: Hummingbirds hitch rides on the backs of geese as they migrate south.
Hummingbird Fact: This legend is entertaining, but
untrue. Hummingbirds and Canada geese migrate at different times and to
different destinations.___________________________________
I remember as a child believing that a hummer was on the back of each canada goose going south.
-
the Canadian geese travel through here but I think the hummingbirds stay. We have them year round.
-
my hummers are fighting the hooded orioles for my feeder. The only thing that saves them is that the orioles are more skittish and leave when I walk past the window..but they are going through one whole feeder of sugar water a day..2 cups
-
Big Problem!!
-
today
-
Cute little birds aren't they?
-
The hummer looks ready to drive off a hooded oriole!
-
He tries
-
new tactic...moved to the yucca plant and called in some reserves
-
Lisa - your pics make me so happy!!!!! Love those little hummers!
-
I have 4 feeders I just refilled with the 1:4 ratio sugar water. I love to watch in the summer we have 2 kinds the Anna and Rufus. My male all white kitty and I love to sit in the sunroom and watch them. The one male humming bird guards the feeder on the window I got dived bombed today when I refilled it. Kitty was so excited.
-
I have chickadees that drink from another feeder.
-
Thanks Blessings☺
Meow..we had major bird wars here today. They are fun to watch.
-
-
Your pictures are beautiful. I love to see their little tongues.
-
-
What a lovely close-up!
-
meow.do the chickadee drink the same food as the hummingbirds?
-
Since the chickadees took over my one feeder I rarely see humming birds use it.
-
I know that we have chickadees around our area but have never seen them in our yard. I wish I knew how to get them to come on over.
-
The chickadee came to my hanging seed bird feeder and I put a small hanging bird house in the tree next to the hummingbird feeder. I have large trees good for hiding. The next thing I know this pair of chickadees was going in and out of the bird house. Back and forth to the bird seed and drinking from the hummingbird feeder. I thought they were building a nest but no, I think they just take turns resting in the house. -
PS. My 2 kitties are inside cats but they love sitting in the windows and watching. One hummingbird was face to face with my male cat in the window. I was so suprised that the bird was not afraid.

Meow how I love those little birdees
-
Meow - that's a great pic!
Well, I'm glad I conserve water in other ways here in drought-stricken California.
It was 104 degrees today, and I went out after dinner and sprayed the Japanese Maples (with a hose with a fine nozzle attached) so the hummers could play in the water!!!! They looked like they were having fun.... and it was so fun to watch.
-
I wish we could give california some of our rain. Tonight thunderstorms rolling in very dangerous for eastern wa. Brought in my cushions and watered my roses. Kitty cats are warm but they said no to bath tonight. I think they can sense drop in pressure. They are very active. Pray for california I hope they get relief
-
We could use some..without lightning because of the fires..
-
this is another bird after my hummer feeder
-
It just started light rain and thunder and lightening in the distance. Still very hot and sticky in Seattle very unusual
