update since I originally wrote this....so I have two areas a 8mm ovoid hypoechoic and a 11mm (which 4mths ago was 1mm) one don't know the name but different after the Dr um'd and arr'd he decided just to do a follow up scan in 6mths (ultrasound report says due to age PROB fibroademia) feeling uneasy seeking second opinion tomorrow and now really worried

It seems a bit odd that you would be told that it "looks like a fibroadenoma" and not confirm that with a biopsy. I had a lump in the non-cancer breast and they biopsied it as soon as they found it. Of course, I already had a history of cancer at that point. Maybe that's the difference. But personally, I don't think "watch and wait" is very reasonable given your family history. I agree you should get a second opinion.
Now, if you have the biopsy and find out for sure it's a fibroadenoma, then no need to worry about it. That's what mine was, and they told me it's totally benign and cannot turn into cancer. No reason to remove it. They will put a "marker" in there that will show up on subsequent mammograms so they know what that lump is.
-
So you've gone from a 1mm mass to 11mm in 4 months? I'd go for the 2nd opinion. Fibroadenomas can grow rapidly, but so can other things (phyllodes tumors come to mind, and can be hard to distinguish from a fibroadenoma - just ask the radiologist who (incorrectly) told me I had one).

DaughterofHER2, I would definitely get a second opinion, especially given your mother's history. But I'll also tell you that fibroadenomas can grow rapidly, so that could be a good sign, believe it or not. If yours is a fibroadenoma that's growing quickly, it could be one that keeps growing, in which case it might not be a bad thing to have it removed. Again, given the history, you don't want what could become a fairly large mass to hide something else.
My first excisional surgery (lumpectomy) was at age 26 for a giant fibroadenoma. I know--I laughed, too, but that's the official name if it measures more than 5 cm! At age 33, I had a smaller fibroadenoma excised, in just about exactly the same spot.Wishing you well! Let us know how it goes.

Unrelated question for anyone who knows: how do you put your surgery info below your post--is it part of your "signature"?

Lilith08 - you go to My Profile and then to My Treatments. There you can specify surgeries or other treatment details.

Daughter - Do you know how well your breasts image? Has anyone told you your breast density. Insist on this. If extremely dense ask you doc about additional screening with MRI. Best wishes!

Thank you everyone booked this morning for a second opinion I think I need to feel 'content' with the result not getting much sleep.
@farmerlucy in the past I have been told my breast were thickened I assume that's dense.
The 1mm was picked up in a mri from my weight loss they scanned my brain and chest region they found a small nodule in my lung but at that time the specialist took a watch and wait approach being very small I was happy with that but now I'm freaking.

I think we daughters of BC mothers go from zero to a hundred on the stress-o-meter anytime the possibility of BC is involved. I glad you are getting a second opinion. You know that everything is more than likely ok, right? Hang on to that. As we say around here - don't go there until and if you get there. You are not your mother. You are doing an excellent job of being proactive and your medical care sounds great. Trust your doctors. Be vilgilant, but trust your doctors.
