Thank, Bobo and Iwannacookie. I wish you both easy recoveries!

Does just HAVING cancer make you tired ?? I know this is probably a stupid question but Im exhausted all the tie and I have no idea why...and I haven't even started any treatments yet....
Another question...has anyone heard of the supplement called IP6 ?? My aunt, who had idc swears by it...so I researched it a little and what I read was that it's an "anti cancer" supplement that slows down growth of cancer and stops mets almost in its tracks. Has anyone taken this or know any thing about it ?
-
Ganz, I have heard that having bc could make you tired -- or any kind of c. Plus, you might be overwhelmed. Be kind to yourself: drink water, rest, eat yummy nutritious things. And ask your onc what he could suggest. That's what I'd do. Don't know about that supplement.
ALLY 2345! I have just PMed you! Looking forward to hearing from 1 more and she wolf. Cinchgirl, you're coming up! Hope it's a cinch, just like your nickname. {{{Cinchgirl}}}

Wait! I almost forgot. Important poll. What color should I do my pedicure for my procedure? PLEASE NOTE: Don't worry about the fact that they say not to do a pedicure for sx; I always do one (but I keep nails unpolished).
What color will motivate the PS to do the best job? I am semi-serious. I am testing out a theory -- the more put-together you look, the better job he will do.
So please report in with poll responses! Pedicure tomorrow! XXX

If you want big boobs, I'd say go for candy apple red
-
Iwanna: I DON'T want big boobs. I just want my hole filled in properly and for everything to work! What color is that?
-
hi ladies,
Just finished reading about 4 pages since the last time I posted here! I have a question...starting to put together a few things to take to hospital on the 7th, what's in your overnight hospital bag?
Oh boy, it's coming really fast now!
-
Hi Honeymama!
There's a great thread about this.. it's called (trying to post link)
Shopping/packing/to-do list for surgery + recovery....
Go to 'all topics,' then go to 'surgery' and there are two good threads pinned to the top there! And then let us know what you pack! My suggestion: really soft button-front pjs that feel like a splurge. X
-
Sorry Bobo--hope I didn't offend you.
Maybe just a neutral flesh tone--will look like you're tailored and "no nonsense"
-
Cookie, you don't! I hope I don't offend YOU, yammering on about my pedicure when we are all about to have sx! It's silly.
I know -- but what neutral nude? There are a billion of them. I usually do something like black or navy or tiffany-box blue. None of these seems appropriate..

Welcome everyone - this list for August surgeries is growing! Thanks to Allydp for keeping up our schedule.
Juliecc, you looked radiant in the pic after your BMX surgery! I don't plan on a pic of me after surgery since I now have something like bird-fuzz on my bald head (but hey that is a good thing)! This stuff kind of looks like my Grandpa's hair used to!
Hugs and prayers for all of you with surgeries the rest of this week: Cinchgirl, MrFu, Honey, Diva, Thumper, Genny, Julie, & Myers! Hope I haven't missed anyone.
-
Bobogirl - hi and welcome! Wow, you've been through so much, but you have such a great attitude. I hope they're able to fix the hole. I'm sure that must be very painful and alarming. You definitely deserve a successful outcome this time. And how do you get away with wearing nail polish?? My PS's nurse made a point to tell me at pre-op absolutely no polish…fingers or toes. My one big toe nail is half black from chemo and I'm mortified I have to display this unsightly toe! (I sure hope your theory isn't true or I'm in for trouble lol!) If it were me, I'd go with that reddish/orangey color that's in right now. It always strikes me as a nice mix of fun and classic.
Julie - lovely photo, you look beautiful! I hope I look half as good as you after surgery!
Ally - thanks so much! Right back atcha!
Tanya - glad to hear all went well! I hope the pain lessens for you soon. Keep up on those Norco and Vicodin and keep us posted on how you're doing. Hang in there!
Gram - welcome! I don't know of anyone who's had the hip flap, but I've heard wonderful things about the center in NOLA. You will be in great hands there.
Iwannacookie - hi and welcome! Glad you found our group.
Ganza - when I was first dx, any time my temp was taken at the doctors it was 99 something. I finally asked why I kept running a low grade fever and was told it was because I had cancer. So even though most of us don't feel sick when dx, I think cancer can cause weird things like that…including fatigue. But like someone else said, the stress of the dx both mentally and physically will probably run you down as well. Just remember to be kind to yourself and take care of you right now.
Honeymama - Here's my list so far. I'm sure I'm forgetting things, but have only just started to jot things down.
ID and insurance card (no wallet or purse)
Phone and charger
Nook and charger
Chapstick
Box of tissue
Toothbrush and toothpaste
Spray deodorant
Face and body wipes
Hand mirror
Eye liner (so I can draw on my eyebrows!)
Hand lotion
Hand sanitizer
Werthers hard candy
Leggings
Button down loose cotton cardigans
Socks and underwear
Slippers
Pic of hubby and cat
Ceramic angel my friend gave me
-
Seashore - thanks! I can't believe how many August Sisters we have. It's wonderful we can all support each other through this.
Shewolf - thinking of you today! Hope you can check back in soon and let us know how you're doing.
Cinch - You're up next! Hope you're having a relaxing evening at home and are able to keep the nerves at bay. Sending you lots of good thoughts. You will do great!
-
I told my husband that no matter what--when he gets to see me in my room he has to put my lipstick on me. I don't wear any other makeup, but I must have lipstick. Even when we go car camping, and hiking in the Mohave desert or in the remotest areas of Death Valley, I still have to have my lipstick on.
-
Bobogirl--no worries. I'm not easily offended.
-
Hello Everyone! Thanks for the well wishes... I arrived home yesterday and am so glad to be back. My surgery went really well. My DIEP flaps are doing great and I will say that I am doing much better than I expected on day 4. I was at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati and they use these pain balls with tubes that go straight into each side of the belly. They called them TAPS. I recommend them! They managed the pain quite well until they took them out yesterday before my departure.
Definitely ups and downs, but every day I am moving better and keeping the positive thoughts flowing. I will try to catch up on all the posts. I hope everyone has a great week!
-
Shine, I'm happing you are recovering well. Each day and week will get better!
-
Wow lots of activity in the past couple of days...I have been busy getting ready for surgery on Thursday.
Anasnana, Amy and Shine - I was so pleased to read you all are doing well! Keep it up!
1_more and Shewolfpg - thinking of you and hope all is going well
Cinchgirl - good luck tomorrow!
Welcome to new August Sisters! As others have said, I am so sorry you have to join the club but you will discover as I have this is a great resource.
-
good luck to all you ladies on the upcoming surgeries, and glad to hear that those of you are doing well afterward!!!
Amy I hope to visit you either Fri afternoon or Sat just message me when your up for a visit, remind me what time is your surgery on the 8th?
-
allydp - holy cow that is a great list! How many days are you expecting to stay in the hospital? I was told that I might go home that night or the next day. I'm scared of going home so soon! All I have so far is throat lozenges, toothbrush, mouthwash, lotion, glasses, comfy clothes to go home in.
So glad to hear of everyone's successfully sx so far, we're on a good roll!
-
honeymama, for my bmx my surgery was on a Friday, when my BS and PS checked on me on Sat midday they said I could be released if I would like. Then my BS hinted that if I was in too much "pain" hospital would not release me and I could stay another night and insurance couldn't fight it. After he left the room I called the nurse and told her my pain was untolerable and she then gave me some more juice in my IV and I was released on Sunday morning
-
Ganz, I'm in the same boat. Surgery on Monday and no other treatments yet....but I constantly feel like I could fall asleep!
I figured it must be depression, but I don't feel depressed....sad yes.
Since my dx, I have not been eating well, stopped exercising and I know I've gained quite a bit. I'm uncomfortable and stiff, I've aged 20 years in two weeks.
I have a lot more going on, other than just me, and I feel like I'm at my limit. I've been going to bed earlier and earlier and yet dragging through my day.....I was also wondering the same question, so thank you for asking
-
Lori1967...I felt silly asking the question..but, as everyone said, it must be because of the stress of everything. I went to bed last night and was asleep by 11pm, got up this morning at 7:30...it's not even 9 yet and Im exhausted. I am also dealing with a lot of different stresses aside from this..uggg ! I NEED A VACATION..preferably on a beach some where far away with a fancy umbrella drink in my hand
-
Shine, great news! My friend had BC a few years ago and had the pain balls with her BMX. She swears by them too. So glad they worked well for you. Rest up and keep us posted on how you're doing. Sending you lots of well wishes for a smooth, speedy recovery.
Honeymama - they're telling me I'll be in the hospital about 2 days.
-
Honeymama, I went home the same evening but that isn't the norm. Most spend one night in the hospital after a BMX. My surgeons said it was better to go home because of hospital germs. There are definite pros and cons.
-
RE: how long we stay in the hospital. I asked a family friend, who is a doctor, why they release us so soon after major trauma to our bodies. She told me that it's because we're more succeptible to those nasty antibiotic resistant bugs that can lurk in the hosptital. We're actually better off at home. I don't care though--I'll be pulling for that extra day strapped to the magic IV.
-
Ladies, I'm freaking out a little! Hubby and I had a leak in our master bath shower and figured we'd do some remodeling along with the fix. Our goal was obviously to have it finished by my surgery, but the tile guy can't come until next week which pushes everything back. There's no way it will be done in time now which means I'll have to go upstairs to shower. Will I be able to do the stairs after surgery? If not, I'm going to try and find another tile guy today.
-
Allydp- I did not have a problem climbing stairs as long as there is a sturdy handrail. That made it easier. Once upright, I was fine. The hardest part as I recall was going from prone (or 45 degrees) to sitting. It would be nice to get it done before but don't add more stress to your life if it can't be done.
Bobo- I have been on a metallic kick, sort of a pewter. Of course no one will see my lovely toes because of those wonderful socks they have me wear. The last time I got these neat purple socks, rather than the dull grey ones I got the previous two times.
Hugs to all!!
Ally

Thank you all for the welcomes!
The past few weeks have been incredibly busy for me, but in a GOOD way. Sorry for my MIA status. I was a summer camp Nurse for one week, which was essentially like a vacation getaway in the beautiful NC mountains. No TV, no cell phone coverage, limited internet. I took a LOA from my normal Nursing job due to my patient population due to the possibility for contracting an illness from my patients, and this lifted my spirits.
12 more days to go. I am nervous, excited, scared, empowered, and *whoa* all at once.
-
violet - I know how you feel...it's a rush of all these mixed emotions!
Has anyone bought post-op bras and if so what kind did you get? Were they helpful?
Just got a call from hospital reminding me of time to come in tomorrow to get dye injected before surgery - yikes!
