Male 32 with lump and going for further tests
Hello
I am quite glad to have found a site where men can express their concerns about breast cancer. So here are mine - I am a 32 year old guy and in general pretty healthy, I am slim and try to keep active, no history of breast cancer in the family etc. Anyway, around 3 months ago I noticed a small lump in my right breast, just above the nipple area. Ignored it but recently it was playing on my mind so I went to my doctor. In short, I have bee, referred to the breast clinic (joy, I am really looking forward to that). I will have an ultrasound and she also wants a chest x ray carried out - apparently a mammogram would be of not much use - for obvious reasons right?
She thinks it could be nothing but I am worried as she said it is strange and she hasn't seen anything like it before so best to check it out but the fact I am being sent is a tad worrying. I also haven't told any friends or family yet as I don't want to cause any unnecessary worry, partly why I am posting here.
Your thought or experiences would be appreciated.
Thanks

Blueman-I am sure if you've looked at info you know the odds are in your favor as breast cancer is very rare in men. Having said that, believe me I know it does happen as my husband was dx with BC just last Feb and we are fighting it now. I don't know where you live but try to be sure you are getting the right care. Where we live 'no Drs' had ever dealt with male BC and we chose to go out of state to a great cancer institute that had treated male BC patients. He had already had a mass removed (that the surgeon in our home town was just sure was not cancer-boy was he surprised when the pathology report came back). Yes it is weird going into a breast cancer clinic-the first time we went and they came out and called my husband's name I saw a lot of people's eyes kind of bug out. But it's all good-all the staff remember my husband cause he does stand out. The surgeon had my husband have mammograms on both sides, plus ultrasounds and a needle biopsy in a lymph node that very first visit. A lump that was found in his other breast turned out to be nothing but a spot of fat tissue. My husband works hard to be thin and in great shape-it was probably the only time in his whole life he was glad to hear the word 'fat' associated with him. So I hope it will be as simple as that for you. So I don't think you really need the whole lot of what might be in front of you until you know what's really going on. I hope that this will be behind you and you will never need to come back here and look for any more info and answers. But if you do-please come back. Good luck.

it's good that you are getting it checked out. Good luck to you. -
it is rare for men to have bc but you are super smart to fully investigate. The location of the mass under the nipple is often seen in gynecomastia, a benign condition in men. However, don't let anyone sned you away without a complete diagnosis. For men, this can easily happen and can result in late diagnosis. So make sure they look at it, they probably CAN do a mammogram. If anything isn't crystal clear, get a biopsy. Much better safe than sorry!

Hi folks and thanks for your responses. I am from the UK so I posted quite late at night - a time when the mind starts to wander. Anyway, back in the daylight I am my usual practical self and from what I have read I agree it seems unlikely to be cancer but I am glad to be getting checked out as if there is anything it is better dealt with than remaining in the dark. Ignorance is not bliss right?
So I will report back when I know.
Thanks
