Hi girls,

Haven't been here in a while and I'm sorry to see so many "new" faces.  Hang in there and ask away.  Things really DO get better.  Different, but better with time.

Just curious if anyone on Tamoxifen (I'm post menopausal) has had thickening of the lining of their uterus?  Over the past few years I've had scans for different things (not all CA related) and each Dr has noted thickening of my lining.  I had a U biopsy about a year ago w/neg results.  I've been on Tamoxifen for over 4 years now, am 52 and am wondering if I should be concerned.  My PCP says if I'm worried to check with my GYN (PCP wasn't too concerned), but I'm wondering if I should see the MO instead.  Obviously I'd like to keep taking the Tamoxifen if I can as I was ER/PR+ but no one wants to do a hysterectomy willy nilly either.  Not symptomatic, not bleeding, etc.

Just wondering what some of you other ladies have experienced.

Thanks and hugs to you all!
Sharon

I have thickening of the lining. What it means for me is a uterine biopsy every year. When I've had polyps removed, a D&C was done. This helps temporarily. I was not menopausal but 52 when diagnosed. I'm 55 & not sure of my menopausal status. I really don't want to switch to an AI or have a hysterectomy, so I put up with the "increased surveillance", in office biopsies & outpatient polypectomies/D&Cs. I feel better having a GYN on board & following me. But I have bleeding from time to time & break thru periods. I get persistant cramping that only goes away when polyp(s) are removed & a D&C is done.

Something my GYN mentioned was having my lining "burned". The drawback is it may be more difficult to diagnosis uterine cancer.

    That's my experience. I'm on the 5 year plan......no one's mentioned the 10 year plan......I'm pretty sure I can't continue like this for 10yrs. I think I can complete 5.

Hi Coral, I appreciate your feedback.  I've got an inverted uterus, so the ablation is a no go for me.  It also makes the biopsy very difficult and painful.  I've had a couple and it's been pretty awful. Actually when I told my PCP about getting them done in office she was not happy.  She said I should have it done under twilight.  How do they do yours?  I've got fibroids as well (lucky me).  I was kiced in to menopause the month I was dx---haven't had a period since.  My MO said she wanted me on the Tamoxifen for 5 years to life.  If it's keeping the cancer from returning I'm not anxious to kick it out of my arsenal, and my PCP isn't either.

    Thanks and take care,

    Sharon

    Hi there,

I too have a thickened lining. I've been on tamoxifen for 2 years and I'm 42.  I've had several ultrasounds, a couple of biopsies and a D&C since I started taking it.

About 6 months ago I was having problems with VERY heavy and irregular periods.  We weren't sure if that was just my new normal because of tamoxifen or something else.  So by ob-gyn did a D&C and found a huge polyp.  That was back in January.  Since then my periods are back to being very normal flow and every 28 days like clockwork.

My doc said that increased uterine lining is a given for me now with the tamoxifen. And that we will just have to get used to increasing screenings to make sure there isn't anything else bad going on. She also mentioned ablation as an option but would rather not do that unless my periods become unbearable.  I of course would rather not be getting my period at all anymore but that doesn't seem to be going anywhere...

It all makes me nervous but not as nervous as I would be if I weren't taking tamoxifen.

Thanks Rose.  No periods for me any longer so I don't think the D would do anything for me, plus with my funky uterus I don't believe I'm a candidate for that anyway.  And I agree 100% I'd rather be checking periodically than go off the Tamox.
