Wren I already have LE....on both sides.
Proud - that is part of my issue - I can't wear a bra because of where the nerve pain is - it cuts right along where the bra hit under the breast. Even with the acupuncture, if I wear one the pain comes back. They are really too large to just wear a compression tank, but that is what I am doing. Just frustrated today, I guess..
-
GMA, did you ever try those Genie bras? Walmart sells them for like 3 for $20 and they are better than nothing but do not have any underwires. I also found one that works for me at the Hanes store near me
yeah, at one point I thought I had a broken rib! it was the bra! -
I think everything is such a personal choice. You have to do what you're comfortable with.
My surgeons recommended lumpectomy for me due to high risk of infection. They didn't want to risk a more invasive surgery. I didn't even have the SNB. I think in my case, if it came back, I would have another lumpectomy - even with having radiation. I already have too many complications from past surgeries. May sound silly, but disease took a quarter of my butt cheek, I'm gonna hold on to my breasts for as long as possible.
-
GMA....get a second opinion.....or a 3rd or 4th....it is your BODY......why are you now changing your mind, may I ask?
I chose a BMX after much research after my DX as I was 65 and wanted to live without the worry for 5-10 years (before ever seeing my breast surgeon....and having a list of questions for her)
She mentioned I would need lumpectomy and then radiation and chemo.....I ask what if I have a mastectomy will I need rads and chemo....she said no? I ask for a BMX, skin sparing, as I planned to have reconstruction, but my PS wanted me to wait a month to start reconstruction, since I had had a post operative infection in my medical history 12 years prior....he was just being ultra careful (was nothing about breast breast area, but hip area) My onco/hemo doc said I did not need the hormone meds after the odds of recurrence were very low after a discussion with him.
She said we can do the BMX and go home the same day, she called it "DRIVE THRU" bilateral mastectomy, I then mentioned I had sleep apnea (no c-pap) and my BP drops very low post op and she said, okay, over night in hospital, .....18 hours after surgery, (Dec 22) I was in the car on my way home.....wrapped in I swear,12 yards of ace bandage. Not really very painful, 2 drain tubes were the most bothersome thing about it....just tired after surgery.....with Christmas Eve Buffet and Christmas day dinner (preplanned before my BMX)....and I was the "supervisor" of the cooks in kitchen.
A week later I was doing 100 modified (counter top) push up every day....
I was very a large DD++++, my cups "runneth over" .....so I was a "BIG".....but not a big deal surgery.
You may need to a different doctor/surgeon that serves at a different hospital.....I can't remember where you said you lived when I met you at our NW meetup last fall.
Hugs to you my friend.
Di

FireKracker.....very very sorry about the loss of your friend.
BIG BIG HUGS to you.
Di
I have lost many of my friends to cancer, (I feel your pain)....
lost my very best friend to brain cancer, another close friend to stomach cancer, one to a pulmonary embolism
Feeling pissy....just found out my urine culture from last week came back.....YES a UTI infection.....only had one of those before and I remember how I felt, so I DX myself....but had to go to Doc to get RX
-
Proud - yes I've tried them - they also make the nerve pain flare.
Di - I was never given a choice... Lumpectomy and rads. I didn't know anything - I don't want reconstruction. I just feel that the weight of my breast on the nerve pain makes it worse. But what do I know ..
-
Di, I feel for you, I get the dang UTIs several times a year and know the pain! I do drink lots of cran juice, take cran pills and also a probiotic to keep the dang thing stable!
-
remember the party tomorrow
Please just show up

FK,
It's officially July 31st and I'm ready to party.
I'm celebrating 10 wonderful, relaxing days at Flathead Lake, Montana the first weeks of July. I was with my DH, DD#1, her husband and his mother, GD, DD#2, my niece and nephew. We are all still alive and talking to each other My GD who is 2 caught her first fish on our trip.
AND year #2 of no evidence of cancer (got that word on July 29th)
AND I have finished 13 knitting projects, started and finished 2 more and started and finished 3 sewing projects. I entered 11 items in our county fair and won 7 blue ribbons. (I've had lots of time on my hands as I remain unemployed and lots of creative energy)
AND you fabulous ladies and Charles are still near and dear to my heart, even though I don't post often. I still read everyday.

As for me:
I'm heading up to WA Saturday for an overnight stay with family.. The Grandkids are throwing me a 60th birthday party.. B-day isn't until the 9th, but my granddaughter goes back to her mom (ex-dil) on the 9th...so.... they are throwing me a party, a week early. I have no clue what to expect when you get a 4,7 and 13 year old together, but I'm sure to find out. Pray I don't have any sternal spasms while I'm there. It will be nice to have one more visit with GD before she goes home for another year. AND to have all my Kids together in one spot. I need energy!!!! I don't have any... OH BOY what fun it will be...

A month or two ago we had to replace 23 ft of sewer pipe which was $$. Last weekend the kitchen/washer drain plugged and DH was unable to get it fixed. We called the same plumber who came out, spent 2.5-3 hours working. Finally had to saw a pipe to get to the clog and remove it. The next morning the project manager for the first project called to say they weren't going to charge us anything because they should have caught it the first time. Talk about good news!
Second good news: We weaned our bottle baby kittens to canned food and lapping formula from a bowl, then passed them on to another foster parent with more roaming room than we can provide.

Gma, if you want to have MX, I would tell the BS that. It's your body and you should have it if you want to. When I first got dx, BS wanted to do only lumpectomy and then I would have radiation. I said but if I have MX then I don't need radiation. He could not understand that I would not want to keep part of my breast. I had Paget's of the nipple so the whole nipple area would have to go and I would have what left?? Literally my breast would be sliced in half and I would still need radiation,,,, no thanks. I insisted on having an MX. And the funny thing is: BS's wife is also a doctor, a pediatrician, and she told him, that if she were in my shoes,, she would have the MX too. And the man is just shaking his head,, not understanding us women. Oh well, too bad. Your body, your choice.

See if u keep on lookin u will find
I do think if I might say so myself this is a great big pick me up
