new direction, so glad to hear that massage helped! I am a HUGE advocate for massage but I just can't afford it right now. I went every week for 5 1/2 years and when I had to stop I actually had to go on a cane!!

I have had bad rib pain for a while, but I don't know if that's because the weather is warmer....

barbe - I don't know if you have tried this but want to mention a cheaper option, it's not at all as good but still very comfortable; before I realised I needed professional help with this problem I actually bought a massage pillow and it works really well. It's not easy to use on the back but if you're dealing with neck pain as well it's really nice.

I also think infrared sauna blankets could be a good idea. I almost bought one but learned those were far infrared waves and they are not supposed to be as good+they emit some electromagnetic radiance. I tried one and it was very comfortable plus they should increase your metabolism and induce weightloss :)

Well the near infrared saunas should be the best. I just haven't found any portable ones. I think you could use simple infrared light bulbs and set up your own sauna. Well that was off topic just wanted to mention it since you like massages so much...

Hope your rib pain gets better soon.

    Hi New,

Yes, mine has decreased too. I am rather pleased that it has as it was sooo awful. I think I might have mentioned this , my GP said it was most likely from chemo - mononeuropathy.

hi wintersocks and all. my rib pain has never decreased, its part of the reason that i am still on pain killers. i eat fiber, and take milk of magnesia about once a week, and loots of veggies, hardly any red meat, so i go pretty regularly for me. its not that. i will have to google mononeuropathy. i did see a neurologist, and he told me it was possible to get neuropathy anywhere, even in your ears! but there is a woman i talk to on here, she thought she had face and neck lymphedema, from tx, and finally they said she had bladder cancer. from chemo. her name is bexter3, and she is the sweetest lady, and does not deserve that. so what the heck is mine? and right now, i am experiencing  what feels like many hard and enlarged nodes left in that quadrant. and i just saw my new bs, who is actually friends with my old bs, and she actually wrote on the clinic notes that there was no lymphadenopathy!!!WTF??? i thought thats what it meant, guess i have to go look that up too. i am so pissed right now i can hardly stand it. and even nodes in my groin are enlarged. added this to favorites, please help...

    kathec,

This is an awful, scary and incredibly frustrating position for you to be in. I know you have had trouble with enlarged nodes. I saw it on one of the other threads. I cannot understand why they have not got to the bottom of this for you, forgive me, as I cannot remember exactly what was said to you. I am assuming you changed oncs because of this lack of clarity?

There must be some reason for this continued node enlargement, especially if it has  now shown in your groin.  I am assuming you have had scans and been thoroughly checked?

I did see a Gastroenterology doc because the pain was bad on my left side just under the rib. I too thought it might be my bowel especially as I am a Coeliac too. He was very rude and short with me and exclaimed ' You cannot have pain on that side as there are no organs there'. He told me it was stress and not uncommon.  That is when I returned to my GP.  Is this where you have the pain too?

I really hate to think of you worrying and suffering.  What else can be done do you think?

Hmm, I am on pain meds for back issues, but normally my rib pain would break through, so maybe I still have pain but it`s under control? Never thought of it that way...control! I do believe mine is arthritis which is inflammation, which also pisses off lymph nodes and it`s a vicious cycle. Kathe, I hope yours is `just`arthritis too! I was off work for 2 and a half years while my arthritis was cutting off nerves to my spine as it grew. Serious disease.

oh, my god, barbe. i didnt realize that it was that serious! arthritis, i mean! i never had a problem at all before treatment, and i even had two nodes that were enlarged to 2.5 cms. and never even knew it or felt them! but today i went to see onc. and he did look at me in the eyes, said petscan was good. and for me to let him do the worrying. and to see him in six months! he did say the nodes dont seem out of the ordinary to him. i just read last night finally that they dont even find them clinically interesting until they are a t 1 cm. the good thing about him, is i saw on the 2013 nccn guidelines, he is one of the docs who worked on pretty much up to date standard of care. and he is the the only doc i have there who doesnt make so many mistakes on his clinic notes, i am allways actually amazed at how much he does rember. i didnt know barbe that arthritis pisses off lymphnodes. i had done a chest xray before dx, because of a relentless cough i had been having. and so i  just did another one on friday, at the same place i did previously to dx.  now i do have a wedge compression of t7 vertabrae with spondylosis, a fancy way of saying that i have a small fracture of my spine, and arthritis in my spine. great, i bet another gift of chemo. believe me i do bless chemo, but have hopes of sometime in the future, it wont eff us up so badly. where is beam me up scottie and dr bones when you need them?

anyway thanks for letting me ramble. so, yesterday i went to a new gyn to see if it would be right for me. NO! omg, worst doc ever! he stuck three fingers in for about 2 seconds, barely felt my breast, didnt feel my axilla at all, and snapped off his glove, and started walking out of the room! i got dressed in a fury! and told them they better not even think about billing me or my insurance company for that! i wanted to do violence to the room! scatter all paperwork, and steal the blue gloves! and spraypaint outside, saying stay away! but i only left after yelling at them. because you see, he knows my pcp. and my pcp is the only one willing to give me pain meds, and who actually lets me spend at least the whole 20 minutes. but the thing about the new gyn is that i had just finished telling him that i really needed to just establish trust with a new gyn away from tx center, because i really needed for someone to be familiar with my body, so i would not feel so crazy. well that didnt work out well.  i really was furious. so last night, i think i really hit the wall. i am so done with all of this, and then a woman i met here on bco texted me today, and said for her, she prefers to keep her head in the sand and work with what she's got. im gonna go with that, to the best of my ability. that, and come here and visit all y'all... the nodes they say are just doing the job of the missing ones. well ok.

kathe, arthritis is inflammation. That pisses off the nodes. I have axillae nodes they are watching that are just a 1 cm, but I thought you said yours were 2.5?? What an asshole gyno!!!!!!!! Arghhhh, I feel your frustration and sometimes I just walk away from pursuing a medical issue and tough it out, too. Sometimes the issue does resolve itself and sometimes I have to pursue it and then the docs wonder why I waited so long!!! Duh!

Just to give you an idea of how painful my arthritis is when it is active, I have Fentanyl patches. They are the strongest narcotics you can get outside of a hospital.

an update from here; since i began massages my rib pain has stayed away. Have not had any problems for at least 2 months. I may feel a little ache and it's always related to sitting (where ribs are pressed down on abdomen).

    Hope you're all feeling well.
