DCIS return
Can anyone help me? I had a wide excision and removal of DCIS 2 years ago. ..of which I would have preferred watch and wait but was encouraged otherwise. No need for radiotherapy apparently. Clear mammogram last year but this year abnormal I had another biopsy yesterday.
I do not want a mastectomy why can't we do a watch and wait approach I am 53 and cannot face the rest of my life with one missing. If it became more invasive surely that is strike time?

By the way I am so hacked off that I am enjoying a couple of glasses of wine. At least that way I can forget for a couple of hours

Hi and welcome, but I'm sorry for the circumstances that brought you here. I'm sure the DCIS ladies will be along, but I wanted to acknowledge your post. Some questions so that we can understand your situation: What grade was your previous DCIS? How large was it? What grade is the new DCIS and how large is it?

Hi Lilibt, so sorry to hear you're having this worry again, so soon.
I was Dx with DCIS and was one who did have my right breast removed. I had high grade DCIS and for many reasons, not the least being, I wanted to avoid Radiotherapy, which I would have needed, had I gone the Lumpectomy route. My next yearly Mammo is coming up in September for my remaining side. I don't think it will ever be easy to go again!
I am assuming since you only had the Biopsy yesterday, you haven't had any results yet, that you are fearing a DCIS Dx again. There's every chance that this will be B9, perhaps calcifications and your Doctor is just being very careful because of your previous Dx. I can understand your fear
At the end of the day, if you do have another Dx of DCIS, it will be up to you and your Doctor to discuss all the options that are available to you depending on size and grade and as with everything, the final decision is absolutely yours.
I wish you all the best and hope you get a B9 result, so there won't be any decision about surgery for you to make. Please let us know how you get on.

Thank you Arion and moderater for your help.
Results were ADH with a recommendation of further lumpectomy and if it returned again mastectomy.
However on biopsy they put the tag in the wrong place and wanted to put a new one in by using the bruise from the biopsy as a guide. Because all the cells had gone following biopsy. As I was still very sore I refused.
I asked all the questions that you recommended to me.
Last time DCIS was low grade stage 0. I was told that they do not test for hormone receptors in the UK.
I think I might take the watch and see approach meantime I am having my case reviewed at another hospital. They have requested the tissue for further tests.
This site is an amazing resource and really warm support for us ladies struggling with the thoughts of our feminism being compromised.
You are all an inspiration to me
Ariom my thoughts are with you for September's visit.all fingers crossed
