Bone Scan done...

Well that was an experience!  I am not claustrophobic thank goodness, but laying on my back without moving really stiffened me up!!

During the scan I kept thinking of two things.

1. Why did they put the sticker on the machine upside down?  Both sides when it made it's rotation were upside down....things like that bother me  :P

2. I just kept visualizing what the scan was seeing. Cancer free bones everywhere!!

All I know right now is I have IDC, I don't know how far it's spread, I don't know what grade it is.....so I'm a little anxious for every test I go for.

Lumpectomy is set for Aug 11.

May I ask why they did a bone scan before the lx?? I'm a year out of treatment and even with bad back pain, I have not been offered a bone scan.

I don't know. My surgery is booked for Aug. 11th and my surgeon has me going for a bone scan, CAT scan, blood work and physical beforehand. Just doing what I'm told....

I just hope it didn't show anything!

It seems to be up to the onc's discretion.  My Breast surgeon ordered a Breast MRI prior to my lumpectomy, and then when I went to meet with my oncologist, she ordered a full body bone scan, a full body CT scan (wanted a PET but my insurance would not pay for PET), and an echocardiogram of my heart since I was having AC & T for chemo..  I was node clear, Stage 1, Grade 3 TN with 1.2 cm nodule and clean margins.  I though perhaps it was because of the triple neg, but she said she does pre-testing for any of her patients to rule out anything else that could possibly be lurking, and to use as a baseline should any tests be needed in the future.  Many oncs do this, and probably just as many do not.  Go figure.  Wishing you both the best.

I had a bone scan (and all kinds of scans) because I am in a clinical trial and they had to ensure that I didn't have cancer anywhere else.
