MRI finding
so I have a question and was wondering if anyone had a similar thing happen.
I had a MRI on my left breast as routine every six months and got a phone call yesterday from my oncologist saying there was a linear non specific finding in my left breast that didn't take up much dye.
It looks like a line and is 1/3 of and inch long and very thin she said it was really small and not a tumor or cyst and it is in the 3oclock position.
I can't help but be scared but they said they are going to do an ultrasound on Friday just to make sure but I'm freaking out.
Any advice or anyone had the same thing and wondering what linear means?
Thank you

please can someone reply ? It just seems like every time I post I really don't get any response

tasia, I haven't had experience with something like that on my MRIs but I wanted to respond so you don't feel alone! I'm glad you have an ultrasound to get it looked at closer and gain more info as to what it is.

Tasia,
Hugs to you. Unfortunately, I have no idea what this might be, but I hope it is nothing of concern. Your ultrasound is just around the corner. Hang in there.

I'm sorry not to have answered you, but I don't have an answer. Like you, I had a right mastectomy. It seems like every time I go in for what is now an annual mammogram, I hear something a bit different about a/some finding/s there. Oddly, it never worries me much. I know that, with our history, they look closely but don't want to put us through any more than they have to. But I haven't heard anything about a "linear" finding, so I can't offer any comment except to wish you the best as you wait.

Dear Tasia
I am sorry you are going through this. I don't have experience with a finding like that on an MRI, but on my Mammo. They tracked the linear line to see growth and I guess from the pattern they see of calcifications, they can often determine likely hood of cancer. I'm glad they're doing a US and and are being proactive with you. If you're worried, I'd encourage you to also call the ordering doctor and ask what the likelhood of what they're seeing is problematic. When is your ultrasound?

just wanted to let you know that when i was 1st diagnosed, i did have microcalcifications in my other breast. that issue kind of got dropped and forgot about, during th bigger matter of the definate cancer, which was a lump. well, a year later, the place i go to finally decided to give the good one a mammo, which is when they told me they would need to be biopsied. instead of watching and waiting another six months to see if any changes were happening. so i did the biopsy, actually nine cores, and they removed them all. when i read the report they did before the biopsy, it said clustered linear, and branching. apparently not a good pattern to see. i was xtremely worried, all for naught. came back benign, even tho it was a birads 4. that is a pattern that can be dcis, cells marching in a duct, or it could be nothing at all. i am giving you a hug right here where you can read it, because i do truly understand what it means to get a call back. hoping for a boring report, when you get it. like, nothing to see here!

I started a thread titled the exact same thing in this forum about a month ago... They saw something small on my MRI and scheduled an ultrasound to review. For a week I basically held my breath - a feeling we all know thanks to this disease! They saw nothing on the ultrasound after trying for quite some time to locate it and chalked it up to a false positive reading (which apparently is not uncommon on MRI's). I'm not sure what the linear terminology could mean, but it sounds like it is really small. I will pray that you get only good news - please keep us posted and good luck to you Friday.

I agree with Nan that it may be a false positive. MRI's are notorious for them. I had an MRI before my excisional biopsy and it saw an enhancing mass, but further investigation with the ultrasound showed nothing and the biopsy showed nothing.

thank you everyone my ultrasound is tomorrow an will let you know what they say.
