Hi girls...here's the most recent news on Karen. I posted this Sunday at bcmets.org. Please continue to pray...and thank you!
"Hi everyone,
I just got off the phone with Sally, Karen's mom, and here's the latest news...
Karen's onc spoke with the medical director at Hospice and received permission to give Karen 1,000 mg twice a day of Xeloda!!! Woo hoo!!! She started yesterday. This is for the liver and bone mets.
As far as the lepto mets, there's enough chemo in there (around the brain where it is held by this particular shunt thingy) for a month or two.
Karen had three units of platelets last week and is having blood drawn tomorrow. She's in no pain, not complaining, and still exercising her good sense of humor, and is upbeat. She is amazing.
Her ex husband just left after a week, and her best friend from Ohio just arrived for a week about 15 minutes ago. Sally said this should be great for Karen.
Karen's onc visits a couple times a week, and almost fainted when she walked in to find Karen showered and sitting in a wheel chair in the livingroom. Someone had helped to lift Karen into a shower chair and get her cleaned up, etc...
Sally is opening and reading all cards sent to Karen right in front of her, and Karen is enjoying all of them. I thought about sending a recorded message on a cassette, and Sally thinks this is a great idea for anyone; she thinks Karen would love it...keep in mind Karen doesn't like loud....she once asked me if that was a "Jersey" thing hahahah....
Ok, that's about it for now. I thought you'd all like to know that our Karen is not suffering and is peaceful, resting comfortably and still fighting the beast."
