Any Hummingbird Watchers Out There?

Lisa - "rule the feeder' is right.... those little boogers are SO territorial!!!!!
Or maybe it's just a game they play....
Either way, I always want them to play nice and share!
Whenever I see one of my feeders with four or five hummers all sitting and drinking quietly, I figure they're all girls!!!

Yes!

yes !! I have 3 feeders setup on our deck and love the wild flying and diving of these beautiful birds! Actually my husband managed to save one last year he found in our garage. We used a tiny syringe and fed/monitored him for 3 hours then placed him in a bird cage on the deck. As soon as he started buzzing his wings we removed the cage top and he flew away shortly after. Next day I swear he buzzed/checked me out as I was reading on the deck.

Teka - love the artwork and words....
Lisa - my DH used to have a photography studio a long time ago, and took lots of classes. He said the instructors always told them that if you take a picture of a bird and get the "eye spot", you are an exceptional photographer!!!!
So to you!!!
-
thanks. Does that mean the eyeball?
-
My wild morning glories are now in full bloom!
My hummer feeder!!!

"WHERE'S MY DINNER?????"

Lisa - I think the instructor was talking about the reflection of light in the eye of the bird. (DH didn't explain it very well....)
Here's something I found online

Thanks for that. There's a lot of helpful information there.

Something happened to my king of the roost., I think the Allen's hummingbird...now a different species has taken over..

I just came across this thread and had to chime in. Since my surgery in June I suppose I have become a bird-watcher of sorts. We have one hummingbird feeder but only see one maybe once or twice per week. It's a really rare occasion but I love it because the little guys always come over to me on the porch, buzz about my head, then leave. WELL, that is Maryland. This past weekend we visited my father in law in upstate NY. He has a feeder that is buzzing with action. There are usually 5-6 birds at it and they CHIRP at eachother and at us when we get too close. I had so much fun watching them! My father in law (who I think may be getting a tad forgetful) swears he read an article that said hummingbirds get south each winter by riding on geese! Don't know if he was joking or maybe had a dream but thought someone here might know.
