Recon after more than a modified radical mastectomy?

I had an MRM but it also took some of the muscle too and I was left with skin just over ribs, no flesh and then had radiotherapy. Its taken a long while to get any flexibility and surgeons seem to think reconstruction very challenging for me.  I was told fat transfer is only way to go, no room even for temporary expanders.........just really looking for hope as had some complications with fat transfer too adn it a long road ahead.......I thought I would be done now after two years post mx but still flat and unhappy...............anyone hadd successful recon after same surgery and radiotherapy too??? Any advice or hope you can give me.........?

    Lily55-  So sorry you are having such a tough road. You might want to private message Whippetmom.  She has a thread regarding Breast Implants but the reason I suggest it is that she is extremely knowledgeable about reconstruction in general.  If she doesn't know, she may be able to point you in the right direction.  I believe she is on the west coast so you may not get a response til this evening or the next day but she is very helpful to us.  You also might try the threads that involve fat transfer to see if anyone had similar issues.  Hang in there!

    Hi lily I had MRM in 1994 then second wide excision in axilla and pec muscle with heavy rads for recurrence in 2010 so in a similar boat. I am doing fat grafting but I won't lie it has been a long ordeal. You need a lot of patience. I am still not done but after 3yrs i have a partial breast. Rads damage area is getting smaller and ps did add fat to area under arm that was skin and bone. Pec muscle will probably not look normal. I have a piece missing .
