PLEASE HELP!! Alcoholism and Chemo/Radiation

Options

Hello all:)

My MIL was diagnosed in November 2013 had a lumpectomy and is positive for HER 2. She started chemo in January and just finished a few weeks ago, she just started her her epson today and tradition in a week or so.

My question is that she is an alcoholic, by that I mean she drinks about a 5th of rum a day to herself:( is this harming her treatment?

Should I confront her? She I contact her Dr? I don't know where to start or what to do?! But I am and have been so worried! I have tried googling it, but nothing realavant came up.

Anything helps at this point!

We love her and want her to be around for a long time!

She has the will to live I mean she is fighting the cancer. Talk with her about her consumption of alcohol she needs support big time. She is dealing with a lot and the booze is an escape. Remember you can't force her to do anything she has to decide what she will do. Just knowing you care is probably a great comfort.

    Thank you:)

I think we will go for a walk tomorrow night and have gentle talk about it. That way I can hear how she feels about it and also let her know we are all here for her!

I would be very careful....remember the alcoholic is the last person to know that alcohol is the problem.  What I would suggest to you is to go to Alanon (for family members of alcoholics).  If she can't hear it, just drop it.  I know that you are very concerned.  For what its worth, I am 30 years sober.

What do you mean by "she started her epson today and tradition in a week or so"?
