Have no details regarding the population, size of tumor, grade, whether they were HR + or -, etc. but the survival statistics were impressive - considering they were for women NOT treated with chemo and/or Herceptin. I'll take it!

Just realized title should have said recurrence statistics!! Sorry!

Thank you for this link! I am literally in the midst of deciding whether to accept treatment after a recent dx that puts me smack in the category of women studied here. (I need to update my profile; Right mx 6/10/14, IDC 8mm, ER-/PR-, HER+, Grade 2, 0/8 sentinel nodes)  This confirms information my oncologist gave me to consider, where a retrospective of 17,000 patients dx between 2000 and 2006 showed similar LOW LOW LOW distant recurrence rates.

I am trying to find anything I can that will tend to support my visceral reaction of really not wanting to do chemo/Herceptin (I worry most about the cardiac risks with Herceptin, as it seems older women are most at risk, and I'm 61).

My oncologist says she would be perfectly comfortable not treating me, but wants me to be very sure I'm making the right choice for me. I have flip-flopped numerous times in the past few weeks since my mx, and neither choice feels right yet. Thank you for this additional input! I will talk about this with my onc tomorrow, and see if she has any insight about whether anyone in this study received hormonal therapy. That would certainly muddy the waters, so you'd think any such participants and results would have been sorted out.
