Hi. This is Morgaine. I haven't posted in a long time. I had a diep flap on my left breast in late 2007. I had a similar procedure, but using my thigh fat, on my right, in 2012. I now have major pain my hips, both sides, where they cut for diep flap. My shoulders are also stiffer and hurt sometimes.

I am very active but can't run more than a mile now b/c of pain in the hips. My shoulders aren't that bad so i can still play tennis.

Has anyone ever had this sort of pain?

My PT is using active release and gaston procedures to break up the scar tissue. But it's very slow going. Does anyone have suggestions? Is this normal?

thanks!

morgaine I am sorry to hear you are in so much pain.   I dont think its normal...But I think there are a few of us that are left with alot of pain for life after surgery :(

I posted a thread a little while ago describing the pain I live with (it has been almost 4 years since my last surgery for my SGAP)

Your pain sounds different then mine...But maybe its the same..

    Here is that thread: https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/44/topic/820807?page=1#idx_5

I have not found anything that helps- I dont want to take medications for the rest of my life. (and most that I read about dont have a high % of working- not to mention the SE they have)

I hope in time the Gaston will kick in & really help you.

Are you talking about Graston? I had Graston technique done for about a month through my chiropractor, twice a week. I did it on my left armpit area and on my legs (I had bad surgical wounds on my legs from a failed flap). It really softened the scar adhesions and my scars faded too. I was really happy with the result, and it eliminated a lot of my pain.

Yes. Graston is what i'm doing. Haven't run in a month, though. It is very annoying.
