I will be 30 in two weeks.. I went to my Gynecologist last year about a lump in my right breast and my nipple being scaly and always itchy, or burning feeling  he felt the lump and sent me to MD Anderson for further test as soon as the doctor came in the first thing she said was I was to young for breast cancer but she would do a mammogram anyway... After the mammogram she said there was a spot on the results but she didn't feel that it was anything to worry about because my age that I would come back in four years. I had a breast augmentation about 9 years ago she said it could be that causing problems to go to plastic surgeon so I did... He came in and felt my breast and said he could clearly feel the lumo and by removing my implants wouldn't help and he wouldn't cut on it until we knew for sure what the lump was so he told me to go to a general surgeon... So I did well the general surgeon said I don't really feel anything and I can't get the results from MD Anderson to pull up on my computer so he sent me on my way.. My mammogram results said I have very dense breast, and bi-rads 3 ( not sure I worded that correct) here it is a year later and I still don't know what's going on for sure and still have scaly nipple and pain from my breast to my arm put , its hurts when my child lays on me so bad!

Hi sbrooke - So sorry for the scare. As the docs have said it is probably nothing to worry about, but, perhaps going to another breast clinic and pushing for an MRI might be an option. MRIs are more effective for younger women with dense breasts. I would arm myself with all the records from MD Anderson and just set up a consultation with the best breast surgeon you can find. Then I would trust in what ever they decide to do regarding further treatment. Best of luck to you!

    Hi Sbrooke,

I'm sorry to hear you're going through and suffering with pain.  I really agree with farmerlucy about obtaining all your medical records and keeping a copy of them.  That was the first thing the gals on this site recommended to me when I was diagnosed.  Always get a copy of the reports.  Being young doesn't mean you can't get breast cancer, just makes it more rare.

I hope you're able to get your records from MD Anderson and perhaps see if you can find a breast surgeon like farmerlucy wrote.

I will keep you in my thoughts that everything turns out okay for you.

    hugs,

    Bren

Thank you both for reading and giving me some advice. I have just kind of gave up because I felt like I was running out of options on what to do. I just know something is not right and I have two daughters and if it is something I want to catch it before it is way to late. I do not even know if any of my symptoms are some that go with breast cancer just concerned. Everything you read online tells you all kind of stuff. My grandmother on my dads side had breast cancer when she was around 31. So when you say breast surgeon is that the same as plastic surgeon that does implants?

An oncological breast surgeon is a general surgeon who has specialized in breast surgery, for benign breast conditions and breast cancer. That is all they do - no surgery on other body parts or areas like a general surgeon does.  A plastic surgeon has specialized in plastic and reconstructive surgery (that would be who did your implants initially), usually on all parts of the body, but some plastic surgeons specialize further in reconstructive breast surgery for breast cancer.  One of the reasons people recommend a breast surgeon over a general surgeon is that have more specialized knowledge of breast conditions since that is all they deal with.  If you have very dense breasts and are young, mammography is not the best tool for imaging - it does not show things obscured by the density.  A better tool is ultrasound and/or MRI - you might seek some further imaging from a breast surgeon at this point if you are still concerned and have unanswered questions.  Good luck!

31 is pretty young. The good thing about that is that information should get you in the door. My mom had it 27 so Drs take screening for me and DD very seriously. Be sure to tell the nurse that when you make the appointment.

Wow!  What wonderful feedback from our friends!  DON'T give up, be proactive, sometimes you just have to keep pushing if you are not satisfied with the answers.  I also agree with the comments and am surprised that MD Anderson would say you are too young for breast cancer.  As mentioned above, I gathered copies of all my tests/pathology reports.  My issues did not show up on mamo or ultrasound, it took an MRI to see what was there and how to proceed.  My EX-doctor just wanted to keep watching and that was not acceptable to me. I was fortunate to find a general surgeon who specialized in breasts and she acknowledged my concerns and has guided me through my journey.  Best wishes on your journey and keep pushing for answers!

thank you! I actually went to my regular doctor last week because I am so tired of dealing with the pain, uncomfortableness, constantly itching, burning, and not knowing what is going on. He wants to do an ultra sound I mentioned MRI and he said let's start with ultra sounds since it has been a year. So hopefully something will be figured out soon. T

    Hi sbrooke2,

Sorry you are having to deal with this, but its better to know for sure. You are young so keep that in mine and hope for the best. Let us know how things turned out for you. I am also in Texas... The Houston area- I am going to a surgeon soon with my records so that I can know for sure if I have BC- I have had so many tests with a lot of not knowing for sure.

Did you ever get a diagnosis or relief from your symptoms? I am dealing with something very similar.
