My situation is very similar to Sheila63.  TN, BRCA1+, .7mm tumor, 1 positive intramammary node, UMX and 6 rounds of TAC.  Both radiologists said it was a "soft" call and I can make it.  I am deciding to move forward with radiation.  I start radiation the end of April after my hysterectomy.  Good luck deciding.

I had triple negative as well.  Did 4 Biweekly rounds of Dose Dense/AC followed by 12 Weekly taxol.  I just had a BMX with expanders placed almost 2 weeks ago.  Path report showed no lymph node involement and clear margins.  At first I was thinking that because I had such good path results that I would not need radiation but am leaning towards it now.  My tumor was tracking along my chest wall and was told that chemo may not kill microscopic cancer cells in that area.  Radiation would localize the chest wall preventing reoccurence.  I will probably start Rad in 3-4 weeks and hope for the best as far as my skin goes.  Have heard that implants after radiation can be difficult.  I am very smalled framed and have no excess skin to use for a flap of some sort.  Hope your treatment goes well and keep the positive faith!

I cannot have radiation because I had cancer in the same breast 16 years ago-not TN-and they cannot irradiate the same breast twice. This time my tumor is 1.1 cm, grade 2, TN, and the doctor was unable to get any lymph nodes because of prior radiation damage preventing the mapping from being done this time. I am having 4 chemo treatments of taxotere and cytoxan. Also, I am BRCA2 +.

I am TN and did NOT have radiation. I did 7 of 8 prescribed rounds of chemo, had to stop due to neuropathy. Also had hysterectomy and bi-lat mast. BRCA1 positive. There was nothing to left radiate. Wink

Luah, thank you for your posts and the link on radiation may benefit TNs.   I have a question for you: for your nodes it says 1/14 does this mean they took out 14 nodes and only one was positive? why didn't they do a sentinel node biopsy where they only take out 2-4 nodes and then go from there in your case? forgive me if i misunderstood. Thank you. hugs.

My tumor was not near the chest wall and I had no lymph node involvement, so I was told either lumpectomy + radiation OR mastectomy. I chose the latter.

I'm TN and my BS said no radiation since my nodes were clear (I'm at Hopkins and their protocol now for positive lymph nodes is radiation vs surgical removal.)  And I had a pretty sizeable tumor, 3.4 cm.

Lettinggo: I had SNB with my Lx, 4 nodes removed, 1 tested + for micromets. I then underwent an ALND surgery, 10 additional nodes removed, all negative.
