    Rosie,

I started chemo in March and my last period was March 31st. My Oncologist told me that I will take Tamoxfen until I am completely through menopause, which she said will be about a year. Then, she will switch me. She did blood work when I finished chemo and said that I was pretty menopausal, so, like I said, one year on the Tamoxifen.

Sunshineinky, My RO said that not wearing deodorant is an "old wives tale." But, I have now stopped. I wore it through yesterday, but I will not wear anymore under my left arm until radiation is over. I live just outside of Tampa, so believe me, one can get pretty stinky this time of year. I will start to carry baby wipes in my purse.

They told me it was ok to use Tom's. or crystal, corn starch just not before treatment. I have been using a crystal, but, being it's been so hot I really wish I could use something before my treatment. One day after I got into position I was like YIKES was apologizing to the techs, they just laughed and said they understand and they have had worse. Just glad I'll be done before the monsoons kick in.

Barbara- I have no idea about the deodorant but my RO said it had to do with the metals in regular deodorant.

Louanne- We can wallow around together! I felt like that yesterday and for most the day today.  I drink those premier protein shakes they have 30 grams each! Seven more... we are so close!

Cannoli I think you're making a good decision to not wear it wives tale or not.

Rett- I apologized early on.  I'm really thinking they've zapped my stinky armpits lol.  I'm seriously not smelling them!

Hi all! I had my 1st appmt with ONC RAD on Tues 6/24. Really like my RO doc! He was very very thorough and answered every question I had, which were lots! So he said I will do 6.5 weeks rad of which 1.5 weeks boosts. He wants me to have a mamm before they schedule my CT sim. Is this normal? He wants to do a final mamm before my rad starts to double check no other suspicious areas. Freaking me out some, but I am fairly confident they did a thorough review when they found the DCIS and also day of surgery had ultrasound. Anyway it is scheduled for 7/1. He said I could wait like 2 weeks if I wanted as the compression may not be too comfortable. I am healed from BS on 6/3 but not sure I will like compression post surgery but want to get going on getting this rad done! Good news is no Tamoxifin or other followup!! As far as diet, dairy is really hard to give up, but I'm trying. Have to find some stores to find substitutes for cheese and occasional ice cream!

Sunshineinky- glad you're on the home stretch! Must feel so good to almost be done!

Cannoli & Rettmich-I'm trying the cornstarch and bought an all natural deoderant too. I used the vit E oil (boy it is sticky icky!!) and pure aloe gel (seems fine) Doc said to use it 3x day prior to starting rad. I may have to do the under bra t-shirt trick too.

Guess my srart date is still a few weeks out. Just want to get going and be done!!

Hey Mripp! It'll happen before you know it! I've never heard of a mammo before rads.  Goodness that sounds like it would smart! My MO said I'd have my next mammo/MRI 6 months after I get done with rads.  I couldn't imagine them squeezing on them right now!

Have any of you gone in the pool during rads?

Ddgm I was cleared for the pool until I had open areas. My RO was ok with it because it was our personal pool and not a public one.

Ddgm - I am more than half way through rads and went to the pool today. I didn't ask my radiologist since I had every intention of doing it anyway. I doubt that he would have objected. My skin is intact and I needed some fun. I bought a 50+ UPF swim tee from Amazon for under $20, and wore a large floppy hat as well. Except when in the pool, I stayed in the shade. Had a great time and am so glad I did it. I am going to wear the swim tee when I go to a parade tomorrow.

ddgm...RO said ok to the pool...until area starts to sting !  I also wear a 50spf long sleeve tee, hat, sunscreen...doing gentle aerobics in the shade part but if I am all covered up I also swim in the sun. Rosie

I also had my port taken out a few weeks after chemo ended.  I'm jealous of all of you who were able to get blood drawn through the port! I was hoping that was the case (assumed, actually) but they only used the port for chemo infusions.  When I asked why they couldn't take blood from the port the answer was they were not allowed.  Instead I had to suffer while they stuck me looking for my hidden veins.

Sunshine, I was lucky they only did half my armpit, so the top is still "normal". I am surprised that I have any hair though. Thought for sure it would have been toast.

They changed my boosts from going from the 7:00 position to the 11:00. They did the setup after my regular treatment on Friday. But I have no idea what's going on. Other than NO compression. Yeah. RO was there and never said a word to me. Only way I knew she was there was I heard her voice. It appears now my nipple is also going to get it. Poor baby it's been through enough. I will talk to her one way or another before I start. I am one of "those" people that has to know everything. Guess it comes from my sis who is a nurse. Unfortunately she is in another state. Dr.'s hate me as I ask too many questions.

All my marked and taped areas are really starting to itch....ugh...

rettemich- I ask ALOT of questions too. OK, so they do compression during rad???? does everyone get it? I was told I'd be lying on my back on a table.

dgdm- my RO said no pool because the chlorine can dry out the rad skin. I may ask again or just wade!

sunshineinky- tell me more about the pics. what for, how often,  of what (like zoomed or what), do you get to see them,

all- how often do they draw blood during rad?

mripp...I asked about blood drawn during rads and nurse said they don't...

I could see RO saying no to pool due to chlorine...I go in the morning...shower and rinse right after and moisturize...my rads are at 3:00 so I have a good 4 hour window to use moisturizers..

I believe only RN  can draw through the port???  I know my little friend at MO couldn't use my port as she was not  RN or LPN..I think that's what she told me? Rosie

Mripp the pictures I saw because I asked! I haven't saw this last set.  They used the rad machine to do pictures each Tuesday and during initial set up and boost set up they used the machine and a digital camera.  I had labs every other week.  My counts dropped just a bit but have remained within normal range.  I don't think all ROs do this.

Rett all my skin has has came off my aerola it's white now and weird looking.  I just pray it grows back.  I've been snooping past rads boards and I'm tempted to ask on the spring board for their advice!

Sunshineinky, I had a protein shake today. Felt better for a few hours, then the fatigue set it again. Relaxed for a while and feeling better now, had some fruit! Hope you are feeling better!

Has anyone's incision opened during boosts? Feeling a tug and burning at the end of my incision, right where the mark is, it is actually right on that area. The weather has been so warm, the color of the marker is everywhere. The techs asked me not to use any soap at all on the area just let the water run on it.

Louanne today has been a decent day! My Sentinal node incision feels like what you're describing. However I have a burn near it and I can't really figure out which of the two are pulling! I'm addicted to protien shakes.  However I can drink them and eat cookies with them lol.  I can't wait to have more energy so I can walk more and just be more active!

Glad you are having a decent day Sunshineinky! The burn sounds painful. I had my first shake today, but I need to be careful, there is quite a bit of sodium in them. I need to watch my blood pressure. Cookies sound like a good idea! I've been trying to use my exercise bike I can only do 2 miles. It is taking up to 10 minutes sometimes. Try to do it everyday to battle the fatigue.

Missing, no not everyone is compressed. from what I was told it depends on the machine that is being used and  where and mostly how deep the tumor bed is. As the electrons are shallow compared to the photons.

They only did a blood draw before I started rads.

Sunshine, oh that sounds painful. Not to get personal but how's the nipple holding up? Good idea about scouring some of the boards think I will do that too.

Rett it looks pitiful lol.  Surely it'll look normal at some point.  I've decided it has to still be a bit numb because I really haven't felt a lot of pain there!

Hi everyone!  So, I took everyone's advice and I spoke to the manager of the radiation department.  My appointment has now been moved to the first appointment of the day, which works out well with my work schedule.  With the change, things are much, much better!  So thank you for listening to my rants and giving me the courage to speak up!  What would I do without  you ladies!!!

And now my next question is do any of you have a very sore throat?  My RO said it was a possible side effect, because they are radiating that area on me.  But it came on fast and now I can hardly swallow.  I see the RO on Thursday and asked the techs about it this morning.  They confirmed it can come on this early (today is 10/33 treatments).  Just curious if anyone else has experienced this.

Very excited about the 4th of July and fireworks!  This is one of my favorite celebrations :)  Happy week everyone!

curlyq - yes I have a sore throat also. I am getting supra clavicular rads I addition to the breast/axilla. My RO said it is not I common to get . Mine is in the very lower neck on the RT side. Feels tight and scratchy like aspire throat with a cold.  I still can swallow OK.  Only 4 more to that area (26 SC while 28 whole breast)

Today will be 2/3 done #22/33

Curlyq yes I had a sore throat. It lasted about a week.  I actually put a piece of hard candy in my mouth right before I get onto the rads table.  I'm glad you spoke up and things are going better!!!

Barbara- Woooo hoooo 2/3 done! It'll be over soon.

I noticed last night that I have some new skin growing on the area under my breast.  I was so excited!!!

I start rads on July 8.  Scheduled for 28, plus 5 boosts.  Anyone else starting that same week?

My sim wasn't bad.  Had to do the "hold my breath" thing for it since my tumor was on the left side.  The worst part was when they put the tatoo on.  The side was fine, but the one in the middle of my chest felt like it went through to my bone, and made one tear come out of my eye. But overall, pretty harmless.  Hope I can say the same for the real treatments.

So I bought some vit E oil yesterday that is "oil" consistency. Throwing away the first bottle that I bought that is icky sticky! Has anyone here used emu oil? I've resd on other discussion boards that they have used it successfully.

Well I'm looking forward to a girls day today for my granddaughters 10th bday. Taking her shopping, pedicures and lunch! Have a great day everyone!

Ameila123-we'll be close on our start dates. I have a followuo mamm tomorrow, then will get my CT scheduled. Looks like rads will begin mid-July for 6.5 weeks. I'm left side so will have to have the breath holding test too. Not looking forward to tattoos but will endure it. Sorry it was painful for you. Wish me luck. I say onward and looking forward to putting this rad journey behind us!

    Hi ladies!

I'll most likely start rads mid-July.  Waiting on Mammoprint results to confirm a no-go for chemo, so I'm optimistically assuming the results will be low and we'll go straight to radiation.

For those who work - did you work throughout your radiation treatments or take time off?  Also, if you are working, did you do your radiation then early day or end of day?  I do work full-time and trying to see what will be best.

    Thanks!
