What if BRCA negative?

I tested negative for the BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations, but my OB/Gyn now wants me to have additional genetic tests after I began questioning whether I should have my ovaries removed.  I'm not sure what additional genetic tests will be recommended (BART?), but I was wondering if anyone else was BRCA negative and had their ovaries removed as a precaution?

    Hi Zenful!

    I was lucky that I did not have to decide!  I had my ovaries removed prior to diagnosis not related to cancer.  I tested negative for the gene test also. What I can tell you is this so you can make your own personal decision.  Science has not yet identified the many possible hundreds of gene mutations that could possibly make breast cancer  a hereditary disease. BRACA and the other test you are referring to are the only.gene tests that they  have identified so far linking breast cancer genes.  There could be many more out there that researchers just have not found yet.  I know that if I was not at childbearing age (you do not tell us your age), I would not hesitate to lose them.  If I still possibly wanted children in the future it might be a very different story.  Talk to your doctor about what their advice would be and just how many unidentified genes we carry that could still be hereditary that they don't even have a test for yet!!!!!

    Good luck and hugs!

    I also tested negative for the BRCA genes and did the BART and that came up negative also. I wanted to make sure--not strong history of bc, but my mother did have bc. I have not had my ovaries removed. {hugs}

    Hi! Yes, I did. Also Triple Negative and BRCA negative. My mom had breast cancer, then died of leukemia. My genetic tests although negative also said they cannot identify all genetics, may opt for more tests. So with that, I said get rid of it all because of the higher recurrence rate and developing another type of cancer. I am 48, had bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction and radical hysterectomy. They did it all at the same time. Mine was robotic, very minimal scarring and I had absolutely no pain or complications.

    I'm also TN but BRCA negative. The panel they tested for me had 6 identified genes including BRCA 1 and 2. I was negative for all of them. There was a more comprehensive panel, but I opted not to do that. Having my ovaries out has not been suggested to me.
