It is thyroid cancer

Well "Mom," I've been looking at several of your posts because I noticed what a good attitude you had about not worrying about your lung nodule. Then fate decided to have its little joke and concentrate on the thyroid instead.  Not funny.  I've just been on the boards because I came across several very small non-calcified Iung nodules myself, all of which are in the same lung as my cancer/mastectomy (and I had two tumors, one very close to the chest wall).  I'm trying to be patient, but then I have not been in the best health AND have been coughing a lot lately. 

So I just wanted to wish you the best with your surgery. No matter how many times we hear "it will be fine," or "it's curable," etc. - it is STILL tough to be told you have a cancer, let alone two, and go through more surgery.  So you go ahead and have your "meltdown" days, and we all send hugs your way.
