Wonderland, love your curls!!! Beautiful picture. Ann, hope your shoulder is continuing to improve each day. Lilacblue, will definitely have to check out the book. Cheryl, glad to hear you are feeling better and almost back full throttle.
Did a Tart 15 minute walk yesterday evening before going to Weight Watchers. Today was my one hour boot camp and my friend Sara actually came back for more fun . Agreed that as challenging as it can be at times, we feel so much stronger after each class.
Happy Friday my sculpted friends.
-
hi ladies, lots going on! Great pix of the walkers Ruth and love those curls Wonderland. Beppy, your hair was super soft and pretty, I just HAD to touch it (with your permission of course). Mary, we couldn't stay up for 16 innings either, holy cow that was a long game. But fun to root for Denard. :-)
No one voted for July so yes we're aiming for June 2015.
Got out for a nice walk this evening after the sun went down & logged 5 miles. Yes indeed I do love my pedometer! ♥ to all
-
Mary, sounds like an interesting book. Rosie, welcome! Your strength will come back.
Two walks today, about 20 minutes hooping, and vacuumed the downstairs. I lost my dog friend today-- her family cut their vacation short by a couple days and picked her up. So the second walk I was by myself. I liked the rhythm of going out for two short walks in a day so I may see if I can keep it up.
-
Odie told you she'd come back. Sorry you lost you walk buddy Ann, did you know they are always looking for dog walkers at local shelters.
Did a Tart Body Jam class tonight and there was lots of 'whacking' don't laugh it's a dance style, look it up
-
Don't think I want to look up "whacking" - much more fun to imagine what a class for that would be like.
Half hour Tart run this morning - saw 3 bunnies. The little ones are coming out now - they are so precious looking!
-
Ok, Cheryl I looked, it's "waacking" and, call me old, but isn't that what they used to call "vogueing" not long ago. I did not know that shelters need dog walkers. I may look into that. The good thing about my dog buddy was that she would trot for a while then get tired, just like me. Also, she almost never barked. Barking dogs drive me nuts!
Well here I am, up early and going to take a dog-less walk.
-
Hard to fit in exercise this week as so busy the past 2 days, it was a 2 mile walk at sunset, and that comes after 9 PM! I will need to do a lunchtime walk today as I have an evening meeting in Seattle. I have a hilly ride for strawberry shortcake tomorrow. It's the real deal at the strawberry festival.
As to "when does the energy come back", I found that mine tanked at the end of AC (I did six dose dense), recovering during Taxol. Not to my full strength, but enough so I could do long bicycle rides. I rebounded during the first 2/3 of radiation, and then dipped. It came back 3.5 weeks later, and was much better. Again, not completely, but enough so that I could do the Seattle-to-Portland six weeks post rads. I needed a lot of ibuprofen and energy potions to do long rides that summer, but I did them. About six months post radiation, things suddenly got a lot easier, just in time for skiing season which was just glorious that Christmas.
The next big breakthrough was taking up running about 15 months ago. I am now better on hills cycling than any time during my life. I did not get out to do the difficult ski trails last winter, but suspect I am better on those as well.
As I approach the 5 year mark, I have at least as much energy as I ever did. I need naps a lot less than I did a couple of years ago. So there is long, slow recovery after you get through active treatment. I do two weekday routines, one being crunches with an exercise ball, and the other being 10 lb free weights. Boring, but effective. I think about 10 hours of walking, running, or cycling most weeks.
Last night's walk took me back to my childhood in Vermont with the coolness, the breeze, and the scents of high summer. The evening before was the most glorious sky. So calms my spirit as well as being good for my body. A major reason I chose to live where I moved. A great place to walk/run was high on my list. And I got it!!!!!! - Claire

My Insanity teacher was gone & the sub made us do a different, but equally torturous circuit training thing called Tabata....actually it was more torturous as it was 45 minutes instead of 30. I might now do 15 minutes of abs before calling it a day. I am going to the high school summer theater's production of Grease tonight. They always do an amazing job, so it should be fun & I should get in some Tartly Toe Tapping with the music.
How come we didn't get to 'whack' during Body Jam? Or was I whacking and I didn't even know it?
-
Ann - I don't think you'd be a fan of my dog, Mikey - as the DC trip ladies can verify, he does nothing but bark! But we love him anyway.
I worked at our local animal shelter for years and yes, we were always looking for volunteer to walk the dogs, cuddle the cats, etc. Shelter staff does their best to try to keep the animals clean and fed, but too often they just don't have enough time to walk, cuddle, and otherwise interact one on one with the animals, as much as they want to. Volunteers who do this are invaluable - quality socialization time absolutely helps keep the shelter animals from getting "kennel crazy" and developing behavioral issues related to being caged and stressed. Or depending on your schedule, if you're looking to pick up a few extra bucks, dog walking services are always looking for new dog walkers - more and more dog owners who work all day hire someone to take their dog for a walk during the day while the owners are gone.
Ruth - have fun tonight!
-
NatsFan, dh's finger is still on the mend and had his dressing changed today. Have you toured the Champagne region of France?
Power step and body balance at the gym today.
Have a terrific start to the weekend everyone!
-
Ah Tabata. That is the Friday night boot camp drill. Not bad the first round or two but definitely taxing by the end. As for "whacking", I agree with Mary that speculation is alot more fun...
My exercise for today was 15 minutes on the bike plus 20 minutes on the Elliptical...
Happy Friday night everyone!
-
Ruth, Tabata sounds scary, but then so does Insanity. Mary, if it was my dog I'd probably adapt to the barking. I certainly adapted to dog breath and other unpleasant dog smells as my canine guest grew on me.
Ended up walking twice today. I'm trying to pretend there's an anxious dog that wants to go as a motivator. I guess I am connecting to my Inner Dog.
-
_Ann_ You could always get one of those invisible dog leashes from the 70's
-
LOL you guys are making me laugh this morning. Invisible dog leash, indeed! Mikey was a hoot, he'd bark when we laughed, which was A LOT. He was so excited and wanted to join in the fun. Cheryl, is whacking (aka waacking) anything like twerking? (wink)
Having a cuppa then will get out for a walk, while it's still cool. ♥
-
Walked a few hills yesterday, my stomach juts out and my rear sticks out when I am doing them!! I actually started laughing at myself, thinking how funny I must look!! But , I am not as breathless as I used to be!!! Thank you, California Dreaming Girls and the rest of you wonderful ladies here on this thread for motivating me again!! Your voices are working!!!! Have a great weekend everyone!!!
-
Claire, congratulations on approaching your 5 year mark! It sounds like you are doing great!! Oldie, I really enjoy doing the elyptical and the stationary bike as well! You get such a good workout in 25- 30 minutes!!
-
Good Morning Tarts!
Did tart stretching and tart walked 15 minutes. Will be doing some intermittent tart weed pulling today.
Happy Saturday!
-
Hi friends. Still have a little swelling and in pain from the gum surgery, Haven't been doing too much moving - I'm the biggest baby and pain just wipes me out. Glad everyone seems to be keeping up and hope to join in the tart fun soon.
Later my sculpted friends.
-
Happy Saturday Tarts... This morning did Spin class and managed to stay the full hour and now I'm in the middle of house cleaning and I have grand intentions of doing some yard work but of course that may go by the wayside Kathy you paint a great picture
-
Walked with a friend this morning & then did some toning with Denise Austin. We are having weird weather this weekend; it rained hard a couple times yesterday (think water running down the streets), once again during the night & the whole day today it has been muggy, windy, and heavy feeling with more chances of storms. It makes you feel BLAH!
-
Hello Ladies. I haven't been here in a little over a week. Haven't been getting much exercise either, but finally ran again this morning - about 2.5 miles.
While we were focusing on taking care of our dog who had hip surgery, all of a sudden a week ago today, one of our other dogs, our Vizsla, Penny, was obviously not well. We took her to a 24 hr vet and were shocked to learn that she had cancer that had metastasized to her lungs. We brought her home to love on her until Monday morning when we took her to our own vet and had her put down. We never saw this coming and are heartbroken. She had just turned nine years old last month. We've never had a dog die this young. We thought she was the healthiest of our dogs, but recently had seemed more anxious and nervous than usual.
Meanwhile, we had family from out of town here for a week, our single son is staying with us after oral surgery yesterday, and we've been doing doggie physical therapy three times a day with Zoe, who had the hip surgery.
It did feel good to finally get out and run this morning and I plan to get back on track with my own exercise now.
-
Got out this morning and walked 3.5 miles, before the hot stickiness.
Going to the matinee of Maleficent, TTYL my tartly sculpted friends. ♥
-
So sorry about your dog, Annie.
-
Oh Annie, I'm so sorry about your fur baby. Gentle hugs!!
-
Oh Annie I'm so sorry about your baby, our hearts break when they leave us, sounds like you've had your hands full, good to know you took some time for yourself today. Badger I'm going to Maleficent at 6pm tonight, one of my friends birthday and she chose that then dinner afterwards. Ruth what we'd give for some of that rain, same old same old here, sunny and warm.
-
oh Annie, so sorry about your dog! We posted at the same time then I ran out the door for the theater.
Cheryl, I liked Maleficent, hope you do too. Good movie with a strong female lead. In my dreams I can fly (sometimes) so I loved the parts when she flew.
-
Annielane,
I am so sorry about your fur baby. It is so incredibly difficult to say good bye to them as they leave us way too soon. Sending gentle hugs..
Today's exercise was pulling weeds and leisurely swimming.
-
Annie, sorry to hear about your dog. It's sad when we lose one of our furry friends.
-
AnnieLane, I'm so sorry to read of this difficult time and the passing of your much loved Penny. Good for you in getting out to run and I hope your other dog makes a full and quick recovery.
Yesterday was a rest day for me and today well, a little yoga and gardening later. I've decided to suspend running until after Tuesday as I'm seeing a chiropractor here in Kent who specialises in the McKenzie Method to consult on my knees. I'm keeping an open mind, yet I know these poor old knees are taking a pounding via pavement running. The answer to that is to run on dirt, yet living with never ending rain, you also have never ending mud. I hope this niggling knee pain can be resolved and running resumed soon.
-
LB, my right knee is 'crunchy' so that's why I walk instead of run but I know you love it so good luck with that niggling knee pain!
Walked four miles this morning while it was still cool. ♥ to all
