Boobydoo, most people tastes come back. Give it time. Sorry you are feeling yucky.

Minus, I walked the hall 2x. They had me practice the stairs, and sitting and standing. Wore me out. Pain is being handled. Pain has also been my companion for many years So it now a different kind of pain. My ortho asked how I managed to walk at all on my old knees. I told him it wasn't easy! LOL

    Much love

Moon, glad to see you back.

I am attempting chicken pot pies for the first time. Dough is done, working on filling . I am using Pioneer woman's recipe with a few variations.  Kids tried filling with some bread, they were happy. All is good.

viv - glad to hear Iggy is on the mend. Pot pies, yum! I love them and miss eating them and need to develop a gluten free recipe for the crust, and a dairy free one for the sauce.

Viv pot pies yum I will make them with butternut squash, mushrooms and Swiss chard. Someday

Minus. Your meals sound lovely. I have recently become addicted to refrigerator pickles and red onion with vinegar and hot water and a bit of honey poured on top. It has to sit for a day or so in a closed container.

The weather here is still beautiful and the sugar snap peas are 4 feet high with peas coming and many many white flowers which will turn into peas. A fellow gardener gave me new yummy lettuce. I love the summer!

Oh, played at the Summer Solstice Festival today. We stink!  But they clapped! And people smiled and said "very nice" when I walked off the stage. People are so kind... :)

I have a date with an officer and a gentleman next week. I am not worthy.

Debbie, kisses and hope you are doing well.

Viv, yay for Iggy....and your adorable kids who are so helpful and creative in the kitchen!

    Bedo....good things on all fronts!

Just returned from getting some flowers to plant on our deck so when DS2 and co. stay here next weekend (with new serious GF...aka "Chicago girl") they will have some color to enjoy. It is pretty freezing here! But good weather for my long walk today.

On the way back from the nursery, we stopped at a Common Man diner style restaurant. It was loaded with the participants in Biker Week. Most of the ones we saw were really overweight, smoking as soon as they left the diner, and not wearing helmets. I found that sort of personal russian roulette rather interesting. Anyway, once we stopped staring at the risk-takers,  food-wise we shared a way too dressed caesar salad, then DH had a fish taco with sweet potato fries (he worked really hard around the property all day!:), and I had a turkey club  (aka expanded BLT :), which I couldn't finish.... and went for broke with a take-out order  of two desserts....cherry pie and carrot cake. We have started to watch the first series of Orange is the New Black, so will probably have a dessert break in between one of tonight's episodes. :)

Tomorrow is planting day....as well as exercising these extra calories off. I've been feeling pretty cavalier since losing the most recent three lbs. LOL I obviously don't know how hard taking off the last four will be!!

    Happy summer solstice all.....

Bedo - WRONG.  The officer & gentleman will have to work VERY hard to be worthy of you.   You are such a vibrant, interesting soul.  Still - have fun!!

I love the summer too.  My son was here for 3 days last week helping me get quotes on a new roof & gutters.  He always wants to go eat cheap "tex mex" at the strip malls when he comes to town - comfort food w/lard from his childhood.  We compromised w/one cheapie and one more refined.  The latter had the best crab enchiladas I'd ever tasted.  Velvety soft sauce.  Of course it was $17 for two enchiladas.  For those of you who don't live in Texas (& maybe Arizona?), three meat enchiladas w/rice & beans usually costs under $7.00 at the local dives.  He said his beef enchiladas were no better than the dive for twice the price.

Oh well, it was an occasion to remember the death of my baby brother 20 years ago -  two days before his 40th birthday, so we toasted his memory with a margarita or two.  My brother never married & my son has many of his favorite things.  Good memories.

...spent 12 hours in 108F degree (43C) temperatures trying to remove a drain plug so I can change  the oil in DD's car.  No luck, so I took it to a car repair place.  No luck there, so I drained the oil by pumping it out the dip stick tube.

As an engineer I know why this is happening (electrolytic corrosion between steel and aluminum), but that doesn't help me with fixing it.  I will have to remove the oil pan from the engine (means lifting the engine part way out of the car) to fix it.

    Mandatory fun.

viv so glad Iggy's home. BEDO, Minus is right, you are worth more than you think!

Eric, I hope you can fix that car without giving yourself a stroke. My DH finally gave up on his Concorde with 318,000 miles on it. Now if he'll just get it out of the driveway! LOL.

May I say hospital food is still not very good. O yuck. Breakfast wasn't bad but the rest was pretty ugly. Made the mistake of ordering spaghetti.  Um. No.perhaps if it wasn't whole wheat pasta.... Meatloaf wasn't bad. That was ok..The pizza was the best but I ate half the crust with all the veggies. It was a little 6 inch deep dish..so half was enough. The yogurt parfait was my big splurge cause they kept me to 5 carbs. That was 3 because of the fruit. But it had blueberries and strawberry pieces. Yum. So i had to watch it. But they gave me the stupid Sugar Free jam and syrup. I'd rather not eat the bread than that. LOL don't feel much like eating here at home cause I finally have had to use the bathroom and much more often then others on pain pills! LOL just got to make it through the first week. Then we'll see. Supper tonight was ham sandwiches. I don't know if they do it elsewhere, but here in WI, they sell baked ham at most grocery stores. You buy a pound and you get 6 free rolls. My DH bought that and added a slice of swiss cheese. That went down pretty easy..

    Much love.

Moon, the ham sandwich definitely sounds the best of your week! Hope you can get some good rest at home, and start that healing process to gain mobility!

Minus, your dinners and time spent with your son sounded lovely and meaningful. Loved the sound of that crab enchilada! Also, if I lived by myself, I would definitely follow the meal plan you describe! ;) I love to eat oddly, but can only do it when my more traditional meal eating DH is not joining me. ;)

Eric...I second the BE CAREFUL message! But I know how satisfied you must feel when you get something like that accomplished. Man vs. Car!

Tonight we had grilled teriyaki marinated chicken thighs and drumsticks. They marinated for several hours and were really good! Had spinach/ mushroom salad and also ratatouille (just love whipping that out of the fridge when we need a "side").

Tomorrow we clean the place to be hotel ready for DS2 and his friends and head down the highway in time to attend our stretching class which we have missed for two weeks. Stiff bodies here!  But I have gotten my long brisk walks in and really feel energetic and strong these days...now that the virus has passed. ;)

I don't know how much of it is "man vs. car" compared to "I saved the $90 per hour labor charge".  Most things I can do as quickly as the labor estimator books claim, so it's a good deal for me since I already have the tools.  That stupid drain plug is not in the book and none of the other repair places will touch it except as a $950, plus parts, oil pan replacement.

Back in the day, I couldn't afford to pay those kind of costs.  Now that I can afford it, I just don't want to pay those kind of costs.

With the heat, I just eat salty things, bananna chips, move slowly and drink lots of water.

Dinner last night was grilled burgers with a salad and tonight was a fend for one self night.

Moon I happy to hear, for two reasons, that the knee replacement is going well.  The first is, of course, that it is about your knee.  The second is that my mother in law will be have a new knee on July 3.

Minus, here in Arizona Mexican food is equally cheap.  The "gourmet" places are more expensive, but still very reasonable.

I see the same unhealthy behavior thing at one of the local hilltops.  It's a very challenging walk to the top, even for those that hike it all the time...and I see folks at the top, still huffing and puffing, light up a cigarette and consume the whole thing in under 30 seconds.

Bedo, I agree with Lacey, you are worthy.  You have done many amazing things.  Besides, thinking otherwise will make you less attractive....trust me on that.  Please.

Viv, I haven't made pot pies in a very long time. You've given me a good idea.  Thank you....   And again, I'm so very glad Iggy is home.

Off to bed for me.  I have a 5am wake up tomorrow.

    Eric

nance! We get it. Love is love! LOL

One of my best friends brought over supper tonight. How sweet. She stopped at the Pick save deli and bought the dinner special. Cold 1/2 chicken, mashed potatoes and mixed steamed veg..it's about 6 bucks and very good food. Real potatos too. One is enough for 2 people but she also bought the meatloaf meal. Sides are your choice. I used to buy them for myself when I was alone as it's fresh good and easy. So i was really looking forward to these meals. 2 days my DH doesn't have to try to cook and egg and hamburgers can wait 2 more days!(one of the few things he can cook) LOL it was yummy. So thoughtful. And proves you don't have to make a big dinner on your own to make someone's life easier. I didn't care she didn't cook, but I loved I could eat food I didn't have to cook. Meant the world to me. Especially since I haven't even gotten texts from any if my 4 kids since sx last wed. Hummmph. That's 5 days..... LOL Here's me with my new jazzy walker, pink zebra stripes and all. LOL

Moon, you must have been a special patient--looks like you got red tiger paw slippersocks at the hospital.  All I ever got was army drab or green.  (They gave my mother bright yellow and hot pink....)

Eric--you have a twisted sense of "Mandatory FUN"  I always thought of that as things like showing up for the 3rd grade Piano recital of the Jr. High Band...HA

Just lost a lengthy post (obviously on my computer). AAAGGGHHH!

I'm not up to typing it all again, but I'll just say I'm brining a pork loin that I'll roast and glaze with an aged balsamic glaze that my DSIL brought me from Italy. Sides will be new potatoes from the garden and sautéed baby spinach. I'll try to retype the post about my 4 course Italian dinner another time.

I've been gone for the past several days and haven't been able to post from my stupid smart phone (although I think the problem might be swype  instead of the phone itself) but it only happens on bco. Very strange. Thank you Lacey, for so eloquently saying all the things that I would like to say IF I COULD POST FROM MY STUPID PHONE.

Monica - -  girl, all you need are some baseball cards in those wheels and you'd be stylin'!  Dahling, you look mahvelous!

    Definitely lookin' good, Moon!

Nance, I'd be happy to be your ghost writer anytime......if you'll be my ghost chef! :)

I have a burning question....about caste iron skillets. We have two that I enjoy using for a variety of meals. When I went to make my ratatouille last week, the large skillet (my favorite) had that bad olive oil odor to it. DH always does clean up, and he uses olive oil to season the skillets after washing them. Should we not be using olive oil? Regular vegetable or canola oil? We are of the mind that the skillets do need to be washed rather than just wiped down, so it seems we need to season them with something. Please help!

Yesterday, DH and I headed down the highway in time to make our stretching class...we really needed it. I especially did since I was stiff from the long drive, with lots of commuter traffic right at the end. So all I wanted to eat last night was a big bowl of oatmeal, which was great with cranberries, raisons and walnuts. DH grilled himself the last of the lamb burgers....and was starving by 8:30, so we did the Carole/Nance popcorn prep. Yum! We've mastered the technique....very nice.

Tonight we are grilling chicken which I have yet to marinate....better get to it!

Today my big event was heading to the dentist to learn what I need to do about a lower (heavily filled) wisdom tooth that is starting to act up (I did confess to the dentist, who I know well, that I probably challenged the poor tooth by eating peanut brittle). After xrays, hr recommended that I have it extracted rather than a root canal. Well, that seemed fine, except the oral surgeon he referred me to is scheduling in OCTOBER! My dentist recommended I try to get it done before we leave for the Cape in two weeks. Great! So I will now be on the hunt for a good, but not too busy oral surgeon! I HATE mouth pain and have had a lot of it lately....with the allergies and that virus affecting my gums. This is just the icing on the oral discomfort cake! I sure would like to enjoy my meals on vacation without tooth pain! Well enuf whining for now......

Lacey, if you're going to oil them, I suggest using vegetable oil. Oil, then heat them wipe out with a dry paper towel after it's cooled and before storing.

My mom always said plain water and a dish towel to clean,  then let dry in a warm oven, wipe down with oil and then wipe out as much oil as possible.

    It's always worked for me.

Thanks so much, Nance and Eric! I will pass both methods on to DH so he can choose and feel like an empowered clean up person! ;)

Our marinated chicken (will we ever get sick of blk blk blk?) was really good. I made a marinade of cranberry balsamic with some evoo, garlic and fresh ground pepper. Very tasty grilled. Salad was baby spinach, arugula, mushrooms, carrots, red onion, grape tomatoes and a bit of feta cheese sprinkled over...dressed with a balsamic dijon dressing I had stored in refridge. Microwaved brussells sprouts rounded things out and some semolina bread (not baked by me!) I had two pieces since it was so temptingly fresh, and b/c several people at the grocery store today commented on my weight loss. ;) Doesn't take much for me to give myself permission to fall off the wagon! LOL
