Lazy Eye??

Options

Hello Everyone,  How are you all?   Lately I have started to notice  that I am developing something like a lazy eye.  Im not sure it really is a true lazy eye because my eye does not  actually one cross the other.  Instead, my right eye appears larger than my left one.   My husband seemed to notice it first saying that it looked weird, and it does!  I see it quite plainly myself now.  The last time I saw my onc I brought it up to  him that I had what I was calling a "Lazy Eye"  He looked at it quickly and said it was most likely a reaction to medication I have been on (Gabopentin.  Which I have been on for nueropathy.) Since then,  I have notced he Gabopentin has not improved  the nueropathy one bit nd I am constantly tired all the time, sleeping night and day .  I have started reducing the amount of the drug little by little and I intend to get of it completely as soon as is possible.  I have already noticed I am sleeping less which is a good thing.  I have not noticed any difference in my eye however.  I am beginning to wonder if he was referring to some other drug I am on. That is posaible since  I am on way too many drugs if you ask me.  So I will check that out next time I see him; what drug he was referring to.

Anyway, I am wondering if any of you have experienced anyhing similar with your eyes?  My eye that is larger seems more pronounced in the morning. Perhape because my eyes are less tired in the morning?  I dont know if my Dr thought it might be a reaction not to any regular drug I am on,  but instead  a reaction to Halaven, the chemotherapy drug.   I'll have to ask him about that.

Thank you for whatever information  that you may be able to provide.  I would really like to get this fixed if possible.  Its bad enough being fat and bald!  The crazy eye is TOO much!!

I think you should see an eye specialist as soon as you can. If it is a drug reaction the eye doc would probably know which one is the culprit. I would want to rule out more serious problems before assuming it's caused by a drug.

Does your eye seem smaller perhaps because your upper lid is drooping?  This is called ptosis, and is caused by the tendon that lifts the lid getting looser.

May be way off but have you had your thyroid function checked recently?  It is my understanding that thyroid issues can cause eyes to 'bulge' (appear larger).

An appt with an eye specialist is probably in order.  Not just one who does exams for new glasses but a Specialist who deals with eye issues.  Drugs can contribute to eye issues (so can just getting older), so the sooner eye issues are dealt with by someone who specializes in them the better.  In my opinion - eye issues are DEFINATELY not something to be put off.  Sight is precious and fragile.  In my case, after chemo I developed cataracts in both eyes and a retina detached a year ago.  No Dr will say that chemo caused them but none will say chemo didn't.

thank you, ladies.  Of course you are right.  I need to get to an ophthalmologist ASAP.   My sight is indeed precious and nothing to fool round with.  I think I didn't really take this seriously enough because my onc,  seemed so  casual about it.  But often if a problem is not directly cancer related, onc's.  do tend to blow  these types of problems off.  You really suffered serious consequences of your  eye problems due to chemo, Kicks,  thank you for sharing that with me, I am calling an eye dr tomorrow.

There is no way that my eye issues can be proven to be chemo caused.  However, did happen after chemo.  Do I believe they are related - yes.  BUT proven - no.

I would have done all my chemos (A/C and  Taxol) if I had to again -  I'm still here and NED almost 5 yrs post DX.  So I will deal with what I have to. I am still 'alive' and to me that's a lot important than than dealing with other  'issues'.

Drs, especially when dealing with 'Specialist', are just that 'Specialist' in their field but not in all.
