Teka - love it.  I'm old enough that my Mom did everything w/a spoon.  And she always left enough in the bowl that we had LOTS of raw batter.  I think that falls under the no-no category now, like requiring bike helmets and not roller skating w/metal skates on sidewalks w/cracks or riding in the back of pick up truck or eating hot dogs w/Red Dye # xxx.  I'm never sure how any of us lived through childhood when you look at the protections for today's kids.  And what happened to that 'grease can' that sat always sat on the stove & you added bacon grease & re-used it?  No fridge for that.

Sorry - probably TMI.  Thanks for the beater licking picture.

hello everyone been lurking great recipes.  It has been a busy few months, I am selling baked goods at two local markets doing ok but a lot of people don't care what is in their food and I bake only with spelt flour, good ingredients , here is a great cookie recipe, I make these changes, I use organic whole grain spelt flour on this one use 3 cups plus 3 tablespoons and use only one egg, I have fresh farm eggs and I use the biggest ones but a large egg works or an extra large is best.  They are good with tea, you can freeze baked or freeze the logs nd bake when you want.  Let them sit the full 4 hours or a few days.

Mandy I use unsweetened almond milk(cutting way back on dairy and has higher calcium than dairy)' 1/2 banana, 1/4 -  1/2 cup berries, ( my fav is 1/2 blue and 1/2 strawberry), spinach and or kale leaves 1/4-1/3 cup no stems just leaves, 1 Tbls pea protein (can omit or use whey), blend well enjoy about 1/2 cup of milk.

Marilyn I will be in Portland for a few hours Labor Day weekend , then onto Centralia Wa for a wedding then Alaska with some sibs

Thanks for your shake recipe Carolynn!  It sounds delicious and healthy too.  I like that it does not have dairy in it.  I have unsweetened almond milk so will try this over the weekend.

    ah oh...getting behind here...

Congrats Carolynn79!! A sweet baby and you are beaming!  Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!  Congrats too on spreading the good recipes beyond your doors! I'll be looking to try that shake...sounds so healthy.

Teka ... you are a hoot! Love the beaters joke! I ate the raw eggs on the beaters too. I also ran after the truck with all the other kids through the mosquito pesticide fog as it drove down the streets....gees luis. Now Monsanto just puts pesticides directly into our GMO processed foods!

-2 ... we try to learn from past but history seems to have a way of repeating itself either because generations and their knowledge are wiped out by war and powerful people too big for their pants who like their "subjects" dumb and blind so education, labor and voting laws get cut from budgets to achieve that. Fortunately, we can still grow our own food or buy it from good sources and come here to share the recipes. The hummus recipe is still on my mind...I'm getting hungry.

Mandy13 ... one of these days, maybe we find a way to do the road trip. This morning I found Marybe's recipe for bbq sauce while I was looking for Teka upside down apple cake. I must make that bbq sauce again...it was sooooo good. Yesterday I bought pears and apples. DH baked the pears stuffed with prunes covered with brown sugar...a Roman recipe. The apples...maybe I'll finally get to make Teka's recipe.

    gotta run...

Best wishes to all as always,

    Marilyn

Here is a nice site that has recipes and info on spelt.  I will work on some yeast bread spelt recipes soon too.  Making Nashville got fried chicken for Sunday dinner we love it, marinate the chicken overnight in a brine with added cayenne and hot sauce, drain dry mix white spelt flour with garlic, cayenne or hot Hungarian paprika, pepper, salt to ttaste, dip,in egg wash, redid in flour, fry about 75% done! if fish in oven! when. Take some olive oil, warm, add cayenne or hot paprika, black pepper, garlic and a little sugar, brush on chicken and serve, we love it can make added oil as spicy as you want, if you like sweet only, omit hot spice and brush on you can use white flour too

Garden is doing well iris' s are beautiful

Teka, What do they look like after the fire? And, I was wondering, did you ever bake the eggs? How did they come out? I haven't yet tried.

That is interesting about the wooden spoon.

I just read about (and tried) this fruit salad from Nigella Lawson--used apricots, cantaloupe and raspberries..Nigella used golden raspberries but .I tried peaches, cantaloupe and regular raspberries.  Nothing added otherwise and it is really delicious and a perfect summer dessert.

Fruit salad is a mainstay for us...vary the fruit...but always compliments anything we serve. I think that I remember fructose is used by the brain. My brain needs all the help it can get!

This year we have more garden and hopefully more tomatoes and peppers. I need to think about preparations for canning. Does everyone use pressure cookers for canning?
